MOON KNIGHT Star Oscar Isaac Was Rarely On Set For Costumed Sequences According To VFX Artist

There was definitely something off about Marc Spector's costume in Moon Knight, and a VFX artist talking under the condition of anonymity may have now shed some light on why that was. Read on for details!

Moon Knight was a little bit more hit-and-miss than we anticipated, and one of the main criticisms was the lack of costumed action throughout the course of the Disney+ series.

Unfortunately, Moon Knight proved to be something of a non-factor in his own show until the finale, and when he did appear, there was something not quite right about him. For whatever reason, many of the hero's scenes saw his costume brought to life primarily with visual effects, and they weren't always all that great (just look at the banner image above).

We have seen photos with actor Oscar Isaac "suited up," but it sounds like the actor actually spent relatively little time in the costume.

Talking to Defector, an anonymous VFX artist spoke about the meaning of "assets" in the world of special effects, with Moon Knight's costume being one that his company inherited. Apparently, Isaac was "nowhere" near any of the on-set footage of the character they worked on as they only had "a digitally costumed Moon Knight asset that had been passed onto them by another effects house."

While it made sense for Moon Knight's costume to be CG when it wrapped itself around Marc Spector's body, why it didn't then transition into a practical suit is hard to say. It's always possible that Isaac, like many other actors before him, wasn't interested in spending time wearing the outfit. We also can't discount the possibility that a tight production schedule played into the decision.

There's still no word on a Moon Knight season 2, so we don't know when or where the character will return.

Hopefully, that will give Marvel Studios the opportunity to either improve the Moon Knight costume VFX "asset" or find a way to make a practical version that works well on screen.

All six episodes of Moon Knight are now streaming on Disney+.

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - ...wow are you pathetic. Is it really that hard to put an off topic disclaimer? Because the first look at iron heart, believe it or not, has nothing to do with the cgi on moon knight.

I can't believe how hard you're defending this🤣

Should have and could have been better as a show. You'd think they would lean into the darker and more horror-rooted elements of Moon Knight with reverence to mental illness, but nope, instead we get a twin slapstick comedy with the character, Ethan Hawke as a nothingburger villain, and a giant alligator/giant moon creature fight that looks like visual diarrhea.

@JesseCuster - disagree with pretty much everything you said except for that kaiju end battle, that was pretty bad and boring IMO.
JesseCuster
JesseCuster - 8/11/2022, 8:19 AM
@Fogs - Glad you liked it better than I did, but could you tell me what you liked about Hawke as the villain since you disagree with that as well? I mean yes, he's a good actor and he tries with the material, but you really didn't think he was paper thin?
Fogs
Fogs - 8/11/2022, 8:40 AM
@JesseCuster - Well he had his story and purpose drawn and acted accordingly, surely he wasn't on the MCU big league of good villains but I don't think he's worse than Red Skull or Stane for that matter.
JesseCuster
JesseCuster - 8/11/2022, 8:47 AM
@Fogs - Don't you think that's a little barebones of a reason to like him? You can argue that every villain in these movies and shows have their stories and purposes drawn/acted accordingly but that doesn't mean he's depthful, has understandable motivation, or is anyway more impressive than the cavalcade of other MCU villains that have been questionable in their quality.
Fogs
Fogs - 8/11/2022, 8:50 AM
@JesseCuster - sure I believe it could be better. Thing is I gave you the points on why I believe he has prerequisites for having motives, stories and consistency. But yeah, many MCU villains could improve.

Loki is great but he had his story told in many movies and a series. So we get him the second we see him.
JesseCuster
JesseCuster - 8/11/2022, 8:58 AM
@Fogs - But we didn't get Thanos immediately as soon as we saw him. He had always been a looming threat but never on full display until Infinity War which obviously was a lot shorter than Moon Knight and yet they still managed to do so much in a comparatively short amount of time. My issue with his villain is the same issue I have with the villains of Falcon and Winter Soldier. The villains in that series possibly have motivations that would be very understandable to an audience but the show literally doesn't give them anytime to breathe or get us to understand them as characters. So the same here, Hawke's Harrow is just a hollow errand boy for his goddess and he's not much else beyond the soft-spoken mustache twirling villain that we've become complacent in accepting from Marvel when we know they're fully capable of doing much better, especially if it's with actors of Hawke's caliber.

Oscar is a great actor. That show would've been damn near a skip for me if it wasn't for his performance.

Wonder if there were scheduling conflicts and they decided to "make it work" rather than pushing around schedules and delaying the show.

The fact that a show called Moon knight barely showed Moon Knight is not shocking anymore. Marvel's only agenda is to promote WOMEN.... So if this comes at the cost of male characters (Loki, Hulk, Moon Knight, Dr Strange, Eternals, Hawkeye) they DO NOT CARE!

1)Loki was outdone by a "Female Loki"
2)Hulk looks like a bumbling idiot whos Female counterpart is better than him
3)Moon Knight didnt show up till episode 4 and his bumbling counter part had to be saved by a Woman 90% of the show
4)Dr Strange should have been called Wanda Vision 2.
5)The Eternals; Complete crap super hero movie lead by Woman
6)Hawkeye; what a bait and switch... It should have been called Bishop Vs Echo.

All built on the backs of men.

@EpicMan - Dont let me forget Black Widow..... Lol Taskmaster sex Change played by a man 99% of the time until the helmet needed to come off to pat themselves on the back to check the diversity box. Ohhhhhh How Progressive <----- Sarcasm.

@EpicMan - Flip the genders in your posts and you get the complaint women have had about most movie protagonists for, I dunno, the past 100 years of movies.
EpicMan
EpicMan - 8/11/2022, 1:13 PM
@NoAssemblyReqd - Wrong.... lol. Look how poorly Ms Marvel did... and how poorly the sex change ghost Busters did... Even women dont watch the WNBA...

Women do not show up or care as much as you wish and people like you hope they would.

And when the product does poorly at the box office or on TV you guys (Studios Simps and Feminists) Want to blame Men, or misogyny, or the patriarchy, for their own product being shit.

So heres what they do.... They mislead their fan base making them think its 1 thing, then do a bait and switch to shoe horn a feminist agenda that your fan base/customers didnt want to begin with.

1) Make a movie / show that was originally a women character, put effort into it without making the "White Man" the villain and see what happens... When women dont show up to buy your product.... Have an understanding that maybe your customer base doesnt want this.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - feels like probably for digital reference these days, but after Black Bolt and Mr Fantastic, they don't even need a physical outfit anymore - just everything digitally created

I thought most of the Moon Knight looked good and when Isaac was maskless as Mr. Knight and MK the suits looked enough practical. But if there's room for improvement the next time he has to suit up then it'd be great for him to wear them more.
