There have been rumblings for months now that Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Batman, and Lightyear composer Michael Giacchino would step behind the camera to helm Werewolf by Night. Believed to be a Disney+ Halloween special, nothing has been revealed about the project beyond a few cast members.
During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Giacchino confirmed that he is indeed directing Werewolf by Night. He also shared an update on how work is progressing on the special.
"I've been having a blast. It’s an incredibly challenging process. I love it," the filmmaker revealed. "Everyday, I've been having fun working on it and we're in the middle of it. Hopefully, very soon we’ll share a lot more about it. Yeah. There's not much I can't say other than I’m having a good time and I am working on something that I love. So, that's a win-win right there."
The hope had been that Werewolf by Night might make his MCU debut in Moon Knight, but there's always a chance Marc Spector might show up in this special. Mahershala Ali's Blade is also rumoured to appear, while there's been talk of Elsa Bloodstone showing up for the first time too.
Marvel Studios is embracing the supernatural as we head deeper into Phase 4, and this special (which doesn't appear to be a limited series) is likely to better explain what comes next. We've seen plenty of aliens in the MCU, but even after a zombie Doctor Strange recently showed up, things are going to get even more bonkers once werewolves and vampires start appearing!
Werewolf by Night doesn't currently have a premiere date.
