Heading into Secret Invasion, it was clear the Disney+ series wouldn't quite be on the same epic level as the comic book series it shares a name with.
However, things took an interesting turn in today's episode with the reveal Gravik is setting out to enhance his people...by turning them into Super-Skrulls! While that specific moniker hasn't been used in the series yet, we do see Nick Fury issue a dire warning to Rhodey about what could happen if the shape-shifters gain The Avengers' powers.
For now, it appears Secret Invasion is taking the concept in a slightly different direction.
As Gi'ah does some digging (it appears Talos' daughter is coming to terms with Gravik not being who she thought), she learns that Skrull scientists are experimenting with DNA they've retrieved from Groot, a Frost Beast, Cull Obsidian, and even the Extremis technology from Iron Man 3.
That may go some way in finally explaining this shot from the trailers...
Whether that will be the extent of the Super-Skrulls' powers remains to be seen, but they've yet to cross paths with the Fantastic Four, so the odds of seeing that classic version of the villain are slim...for now, at least. Still, we're sure Marvel's First Family could clash with that baddie one day!
It's going to be very exciting to see how Marvel Studios explores this concept in the weeks ahead and what Fury is going to do without any superpowered backup. We can't help but wonder whether Captain Marvel or War Machine will be thrown into the mix at some point, with that obviously being saved as a surprise for fans.
