Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for Secret Invasion, and this espionage thriller is clearly going to be much different to the comic book it's named after! We also have some Armor Wars news...

Marvel Studios just dropped the first trailer for Secret Invasion at D23, and it looks set to be a very different show to the one many of you might have been expecting.

While the comic book version of this story was an epic event pitting Earth's Mightiest Heroes against Skrull shape-shifters in an all-out war, this take on Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu's blockbuster adventure is every bit a spy espionage thriller. That's not a bad thing, though, as the Disney+ series once again looks like something new for the MCU.

In the trailer, it's made clear that no one can be trusted, and while the show's characters aren't identified, that A-List cast gets the chance to shine here. Interestingly, the Secret Invasion preview kicks off with Nick Fury returning to Earth and ends with what may be an imposter of the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director arriving on the planet...well, that or he's just cleaned himself up!

In related news (seeing as Rhodey also appears to have a big role in Secret Invasion), Marvel Studios has once again confirmed that Armor Wars is on the way.

First announced at that Disney Investor Day presentation at the end of 2020, it appeared to fall by the wayside after The Multiverse Saga started taking shape. It's definitely still coming, though, and we're guessing it will pick up not only with the fallout from Secret Invasion, but Ironheart as well.

Check out the trailer for Secret Invasion below along with that Armor Wars title treatment:

@UniqNo - dude yes in a very good way. What black widow and Falcon n friends promised. No cautious optimism tho, simply hyped, THRUSTED, and ACTIVATED

@UniqNo - That was what I hope for as I read the article and then the watching the trailer I agree.

@UniqNo - Totally. Even that music was straight-up WS style. 5-6 hours of WS + Skrulls (and who knows what else because, let's be honest, it's not going to be as straight forward as "Skrulls are invading and we don't know who is a Skull"), count me in. Also, like some others have said, this seems to be pretty much what everyone (including myself) was wanting when we asked for a Nick Fury movie. Espionage? Check. Spy stuff? Check. High stakes? Check. Shit that goes all the way up the national security chain? Check. Sam Jackson being a Badass Mother**ker? Check. I'm in.

@UniqNo - Yep, not jut the tip this time. And I sure as hell ain't pulling out before it's finished. Wait, what were we talking about again? Oh, yeah, the show looks pretty damn good too.

Trailer was not what I expected. Much more small scale with a triller vibe. I think it looks okay but it is a first trailer so we’ll have to wait and see.

looks ok, kind of like a low-level espionage show you'd see on prime or something with the marvel logo slapped on. idk. werewolf by night outsold

@tmp3 - Reminded me a lot of the Andor trailer, low-spectacle espionage and political intrigue are in now I guess.

@tmp3 - I don't think I've seen the 2nd trailer yet, but it's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy meets Star Wars, so at the very least it's different.

This surprisingly looks really good. Love the 70s/90s political, paranoid thriller tone.

Also disappointed that they are sticking with the 6 episode run times. To me it has caused them a lot of trouble with pacing so far. I’d rather see less shows with a bigger episode count of at least 8 (if not more).
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 9/10/2022, 3:23 PM
@MrDandy - I disagree, the problem with D+ shows so far is that they are too long...Loki was the best, probably because it was the shortest.
I just hope this is an actual series and not a movie divided in six.
Cap1
Cap1 - 9/10/2022, 4:07 PM
@MrDandy - i don’t think the length has been the issue, just that they’ve had no idea how to utilise it. Based on this trailer, it looks like they’ve got a good plan. Tho trailers are often deceiving
thewanderer
thewanderer - 9/10/2022, 4:36 PM
@Cap1 @TheHumanSpider2 @MrDandy - there’s no magical answer to episode length IMO. It’s about being given the amount of time to tell the story you want to tell.

They should write the story they intend to tell and then however many episodes that ends up being, go with that.

There are budgetary concerns of course, but don’t let a set episode length dictate the story.

Just gotta accept that this is going to be nowhere near the scale of the comic arc. Looks decent enough.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I'd say The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes did a great take on the arc, so this show's got a bit to live up to.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - EMH: MARVEL taking something great and throwing it away. It was one of the last shows I actually watched live.
The replacement? Superhero Squad 😤😠.

The decision is the "One More Day" of action animation. I'm still not over either.
FlixMentallo21
FlixMentallo21 - 9/11/2022, 5:18 PM
@VictorAlonzo - The Super Hero Squad Show actually premiered a year before EMH. The 'replacement' you're thinking of is Avengers Assemble.

VictorAlonzo - 9/11/2022, 5:42 PM
@FlixMentallo21 - I only saw Superhero Squad after EMH ended. I gotta remember this is not how it happened....

In this timeline.

Doesnt look like something out of the MCU...good.
From the looks of it, seems like this is the Nick Fury "movie" fans have been asking for years, and was about time Sam Jackson got one.

After Phase 4, I wont get hyped for anything MCU related, but this does indeed look interesting.
