It's no secret that Mission: Impossible star Simon Pegg is a huge Star Wars fan. As well as playing Jakku junk dealer Unkar Plutt in 2015's The Force Awakens, he also lent his voice to bounty hunter Dengar in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Battlefront. Back in 2020, the actor expressed an interest in playing a live-action version of Dengar, suggesting he could show up in The Mandalorian.
While Dengar was unsuccessful in acquiring Han Solo for Darth Vader, we last saw him in Jabba's Palace alongside Boba Fett and Bossk in Return of the Jedi. He's still alive in canon, and as actor Morris Bush had such a small part in those original movies, Pegg could quite easily step into the role.
The Book of Boba Fett is currently streaming on Disney+ and there's been a lot of talk about cameos. It's not outside the realm of possibility that Lord Fett would hire Dengar to lend him a hand, and when we were talking to Pegg about The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, we asked if that could happen.
"Not in this season, but you just never know," he teased. "I’ve put many things out into the universe in the past and they’ve oddly come back to me. I occasionally throw out these little cultural boomerangs and we’ll see [Laughs]."
We're not going to suggest he knows more than he's letting on here, but the actor certainly seems optimistic about a live-action debut as Dengar. When we last spoke to Pegg, we asked about him playing Hughie in The Boys and he suggested he'd be better as the character's father. Well, it wasn't long after that he was cast in the role, so throwing these boomerangs seems to be working!
We hope this happens, because Pegg showing up as Dengar in The Book of Boba Fett would be an amazing moment for fans of this Galaxy Far, Far Away.
