THE MANDALORIAN Theory Reveals How Moff Gideon Could Return After Fiery Season 3 Finale - Possible SPOILERS

In The Mandalorian's season 3 finale, it appeared Moff Gideon suffered an explosive end. However, a new theory suggests he will live to fight another day and, as you might expect, it all comes down to cloning!

In the season 3 finale of The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon revealed that he had created clones of himself that had been imbued with the Force. Decked out in Beskar armour, they would have been an unstoppable army, but Din Djarin destroyed all of them shortly before confronting the villain.

Or did he?

When Gideon returned in the penultimate episode, he no longer had any facial hair. That's hardly something to make a big deal out of, especially when there was a pretty sizeable gap between seasons 2 and 3. Plus, Giancarlo Esposito has obviously taken on various other projects since, hence why his 'tache has vanished.

However, the fact Gideon's clones also had no facial hair has spawned a theory that the villain Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Grogu faced before his fiery demise was, in fact, also a clone. Something which contradicts that theory is the Imperial exhibiting no signs of being able to use the Force, though that can be explained away by him being an earlier duplicate.

It seems Lucasfilm actually wants us to speculate about the real Gideon being out there as his character poster for The Mandalorian season 3 shows the character rocking his trademark facial hair, something he never had in the series itself this year.

This clone might have been a decoy or even a copy that went rogue; alternatively, the whole scenario on Mandalore was potentially a ruse to distract Din Djarin and company from whatever Gideon is really up to. There's some ambiguity surrounding his demise, anyway, and we can't discount the possibility that the armour he was wearing actually protected him from that blast.

Even if it didn't, then he could live on through another clone, and it feels like there's something here. Perhaps the real Gideon is in ill health and somehow controlling his copies from afar? We won't find out until season 4, but after the villain's near-misses in the first two seasons, yet another escape might be pushing it.

If nothing else, Gideon's experiments have laid the groundwork for the creation of Supreme Leader Snoke, especially as he's mastered a way to create clones capable of wielding the Force.

What do you guys think?

He was an alright bad guy and all, but I hope to see a new story unfold when the next season starts. The season finale was a nice way to end that chapter.

I hope they don't keep bringing him back like they did with the emperor. Gives us a new and different baddie.

First couple seasons I liked this character but this season he was just annoying to me. I guess no mustache equals no intimidation. 🤷‍♂️

Call me crazy, but I think I've had enough of Gideon. Cool character and all but how bout something new?

If Darth Maul can come back from being cut in half, I have no doubt any character can make a return regardless of how they “die”.

Nah, let him be gone. I like Giancarlo Esposito, but they didn't add enough depth or dimension to the character of Gideon to make him an effective longterm antagonist. He's been thwarted every season. After Din defeated Gideon in their duel and we saw him practically peeing his pants at the sight of Luke Skywalker, his intimidation factor essentially disappeared. On top of that, Mandalorain season 2 teased Thrawn, so we've been waiting for a bigger, more competent fish for over 2 years. Gideon's return in season 3 just felt like moving backward instead of forward.

I get that they wanted him to be there for the culmination of this arc since he was the initial big bad who is primarily responsible for the Mandalorian purge and set the series in motion with his quest for Grogu. However, they didn't effectively build him up throughout the 3 seasons for his return to feel needed for this climax. I felt the hand of the writers trying to bring things full circle. "Not only am I making Beskar Dark Troopers, but I'm conveniently growing clones right here so you can understand why I wanted Grogu!"

IMO, it would've been more interesting to see him as a prisoner of the New Republic on trial. Then perhaps we see him freed. He assumes it's his people trying to put him back in power, but it turns out to be Thrawn, looking to interrogate and use him before executing him once he has what he needs. That would effectively communicate to those unfamiliar with Thrawn that this guy is an even greater danger.

Meh, im good. I gave this show enough time out of my life and all this season gave me was boredom.

I'm cool with his story ending, we can get more of Gideon in a different way, prior to all of this

Spoiler warning does nothing when the headline is that suggestive, and the sub-heading delivers the very spoiler itself…

Esposito for Sinestro in the new Gunn DCU.

Make it so.

@DocSpock -
If you're going to cast a Star Wars actor as Sinestro, there's a much more obvious pick.

He hasn’t been a good villain at any point in the series. Totally one dimensional and dull. No creativity or thought was put into the character except ‘we hire Giancarlo cause he seems like a bad guy’. I love Gus Fring but he hasn’t been a good villain in anything except Breaking Bad because nobody gives him interesting characters to play, he’s just always ‘Bad Guy’. He’s flavourless in The Boys too. And that old show about electricity disappearing where everyone becomes sword fighters or something. He was a bit more interesting in that but not much.

Gus Fring wasn’t a good villain just because Giancarlo played him and has a bad guy look and sound about him. He was good because he was well written.

I think people are reading way too much into Gideon's facial hair choices. I think that was very much the REAL Gideon but I still think he could return.

One possibility is the Beskar protected him from being obliterated by the explosion but he's severely injured and his consciousness will be transferred into a clone body that has The Force, making him an even more formidable opponent in the future - he does say that he's created an "army" in the episode after all, yet when Mando kills the ones in that room there are only like 10 of them so there are probably more elsewhere.

Also with that in mind, have we ever had a Star Wars story where the heroes don't have The Force but the villains do? It'd be pretty unique to see non-Force wielders like The Mandalorians go up against an enemy who can use the Dark Side like an enhanced Gideon. I'm not forgetting that Grogu can use the Force but he's still very limited in what he can do.

I didn't even notice he had a 'stache in the first place. Guess it could be he could return. Doubt Thrawn is gonna be the villain in future seasons, and they do need a villain beside Mandalorians fighting each other

I would be fine with his arc being done and another imperial villain taking his place and going for the arc about ressurecting Palpatine. Would be neat to follow the ressurection of the Emperor through the eyes of Mando, who has no dog in the fight.
