Reports DEADLINE:

David O Russell is no longer developing Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. He's stepped out of the project. Since getting the Oscar accolades on The Fighter, Russell has been juggling a number of projects. Sony Pictures is getting a new writer to redraft a picture the studio is still keen to make.

Russell of course gained negativity in the masses from fans after deciding to make the popular video game following a treasure hunter Nathan Drake into more of a family oriented story. With Russel's exit, does that mean planned star and friend Mark Wahlberg may be stepping down too?

Who knows really, I will just be crossing my fingers for a big hell yes and hope Nathan Fillion is cast instead.

This is great news! I cringed every time O. Russell gave an interview and shared his vision for Uncharted. Hope they pick someone good.

I find it more than a little coincidental that both Aronofsky and Russell have left adaptation films shortly after winning a bunch of Oscars... :P

Thank god for that!!!!! I say Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost) for Nathan Drake. He looks the part with short hair, and he can certainly do the cockiness as well as the charm!

YES!!!!!

Now let's change up the casting...

Nathan Fillion...

or Joe Flanigan

To be honest, I might actually prefer Flanigan since Nathan Drake is essentially the same character he played on SG:A. He could really pull off the hard as nails, comedic, action-hero role. Besides that, he's a dead-ringer for Drake.....even more so than Fillion.

im for josh halloway he LOOKS, and i mean actually looks the part. not just he's got spiky hair. no he looks like drake. these other guys... well its like, "he's a white guy with hair" "ya, i guess he is." Josh is a good actor and would own the part, so JOSH=FTW.

This is good, I have liked many of O. Russell's films but what he had planned for this movie didn't sound that great, I mean he might have made it work but it probably wouldn't have been the Nathan Drake that we have all have come to love.

Personally I don't really want this to be turned into a movie. I know please don't shoot me or anything, it's just that when video games are adapted into movies the end result usually isn't that great (the Mario Bros. Movie... ugh, Alone in the Dark or any other Uwe Boll movie, Resident Evil I know some people like these films but man they [frick]ed up in my opinion, Max Payne I know some people liked this too but I hated it, Hitman, oh wow I just realized this list could go on for a while).

Don't get me wrong I loved the games and eagerly await the third, but I can see them just screwing the image all up. I hope I am wrong because the storyline of the second game narrates quite like how I like movies to non-linear. That would be great to see on the big screen. Frankly I would okay with them just making a movie based off the second game.

Yeah hopefully Mark Wahlberg backs out too. I would personally like to see him go on to do more comedies. I hope he and O. Russell do another film like I heart Huckabees.

Anyhow I would like to see Nathan Fillion as Drake but isn't he busy with Castle, and same with David Boreanaz who would also be a good pick but I think he would be busy with Bones. But I think they should go with someone younger anyway, maybe this Josh Holloway guy, seems like a good match I watched a few episodes of Lost with him in it and yeah he has got a cocky kind of charm to him. Is he currently doing anything, because I wouldn't mind seeing him as our Nathan Drake, and unlike Fillion or Boreanaz if he isn't tied to any current projects he could easily pull off a string of Uncharted games, if that is what they intend on doing.

When it comes to video games that should be adapted into movies I would like to see Heavy Rain adapted, and I know it seems stupid to ask for because, well it was an interactive movie, but I would still like to see an adaption, I mean it would be so easy to adapt.

Metal Gear is probably my favourite series of games in terms of both storyline and gameplay and it is a series I would like to see adapted to film (as the Solid series is almost more cutscenes than gameplay to begin with), but they would probably [frick] that up too, but it would be epic if executed properly. I think they should make two or three movies to cover the whole series. The 3rd game should be it's own movie, 1 and 2 could probably be squeezed into one movie somehow and 4 could be it's own movie.

And the all time video game that needs to be adapted into a film is:

Shadow of the Colossus. That game just begs to be adapted to the big screen. If you haven't played this game, go out to a local video game store buy it used for under $20 bring it home, dust of the old PS2 (or if you have a backwards compatible PS3) put it in and it will blow your mind. Well you could just wait until they re-release it remastered on the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection later on this year, but I couldn't wait that long; I am literally giving this game another play through. In fact I have lost count how many times I have played through this game; it is quite simply: beautiful. The beauty of this game is that everyone that plays it will walk away with a unique experience as they can take whatever they want from the storyline and draw their own conclusions on every different aspect of the game. That's what Fumito Ueda (the game's director) wanted, for everyone to have their own unique experience while playing this game. And that could work very well if it were adapted properly. It would be equal parts epic and beautiful.

To those that have played the game, think of it: Shadow of the Colossus directed by Guillermo del Toro. I know I have a geekgasm thinking about del Toro helming this. I have had dreams of me watching this as a film, that's how bad I want a film adaption of Shadow of the Colossus.

@ JackDexx it's nice seeing another Sly Cooper fan. I love those games, it is a game that could be turned into a cartoon or comic book easily. I personally really hope that Sucker Punch stops after two inFamous games and starts making more Sly Cooper games. Screw inFamous 3, bring on Sly Cooper 4!

I would also like for Naughty Dog to take a break from the Uncharted game series and make another Jak and Daxter game too!

Do we reall need an Uncharted movie? Uncharted itself has pretty good storytelling. To me part of the appeal is that it's like a really good Indianna Jones video game. And Indianna Jones already has 3 great movies so...
