Music is a big part of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy films. The same is true of Eidos-Montréal's upcoming video game.
In their take on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill was inspired to adopt the nickname "Star-Lord" based on his love of the '80s metal band of the same name. The problem with this is that there actually was no band in the '80s called Star-Lord.
So, the developer turned to senior audio director Steve Szczepkowski, who helped bring the band to life. Szczepkowski didn't just come up with a backstory for this fictitious band - he created a full-length metal album that perfectly encapsulates the 1980s.
The Star-Lord Band full-length album is set to release alongside the game on October 26, but Eidos-Montréal gave fans a sneak peek. The developer has now debuted the original track "Zero to Hero," and it's an absolute banger. It doesn't stop there, though. Eidos-Montréal also created a music video for the song which is inspired by classic '80s cartoons, as well as a vintage VHS recording of the Star-Lord Band performing the single on stage.

"Zero to Hero" is actually the second single from Star-Lord Band, following last month's "Space Riders with No Names." Both songs are also featured in the Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Original Video Game Playlist which includes 30 iconic licensed tracks from artists such as Mötley Crüe, Bonnie Tyler, Billy Idol, Pat Benetar, Def Leppard, BLONDIE, and more. All of the songs on the playlist are featured in the game itself along with a toggle option for players to replace them with stream-safe alternatives.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy launches on October 26 for PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch.
