Check it out, I just watched this trailer on GameTrailers TV, and you might remember me saying I wasnt sure about this game, but after this trailer I have high hopes for it. If the story can be half as good as the real Civil War, this game will rock!

I have to disagree the first Marvel alliance was very much a brainless beat-em-up button smasher. It would be great if it was designed more as a violent open world RPG with all the marvel characters and of course the whole civil war theme from the comics is bad ass.

The way I see it button smasher games are very much a waste of time and money today. Beat-em-UP Button smashers have been around since the N.E.S. and the Sega Master System. I play PC games and Next Gen consoles I own them both. Both mediums are great for complex gaming and graphics that is why it pisses me off when they make the dumb button smashers. Mind you I have Marvel Alliance for the PC whem ever a game comes out on all platforms I always get the PC version more bang for the buck and even on the release date its still $10.00 dollars cheaper than the console version.

I hope its not as brian less as the first Marvel Alliance.

The Cut scenes of Marvel Alliance were bad ass tho.

IDK maybe I'm just getting old?

Hellmont if you thought it was brainless you must think pretty much every game is brainless considering you had to use your head in it more than a lot of games out today. Of course it's not as in depth as a game like Mass Effect or even Fable 2 it's main selling point isn't the RPG part of it. For an RPG yes it's incredibly simplistic, but at the end of the day it still has RPG elements which makes it more complex than the over crowded shooter/action adventure Market. I had to think in MUA a lot more than I did in games like Assassins Creed, Halo, or Gears of War. MAU featured stat building, strategy in picking your team and special moves and meters to control how often you could use them to switch things up so you were not just running through it hitting one button over and over again. It also had a good story which 95% of the games out today are missing. Complex gameplay is nice, but at the end of the day I want a great story. So no it's not Mass Effect, but as far as complexity goes it's a lot better than most games.

Why is Captain America wearing a blue cardigan?
Hope I can use Hulk and the Punisher.
And the game doesn't become repetitive as hell like the last one.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 6/1/2009, 3:42 AM
The first one was repetitive, but it was also one of the very first games on the next gen platforms so lets cut it a little slack. Do you guys seriously just use the same 4 people the whole game through? I really hope not, if so, no wonder you felt the first one lacked lol. I wish Gambit were in it dammit. From some of the scenes, it looks like Cable is in it as well, just fyi.
Hellmont
Hellmont - 6/1/2009, 3:46 AM
stupify_me yeah the storyline was great for this game but even the button mashing was very limited. And understand that I find it limited in the sense that your moves are managed by a power move meter and that to me is nothing special because its old gameplay mechanics that are simply out dated. You would fight horde after horde of the same enemies thats shit as old as ATARI? That to me is boring as shit. That only tells me that the developers really didnt take their time to develop new ideas such as new fight mechanics for the game or enough different enemies or hordes to keep it interesting. Hey I like a game that gives you variety of enemies, powers, power ups, properly placed life pods to refil from. Secret Pasages, secret levels and above all control. Control to venture and make desicions, mix and match regular moves with special moves and desicions which fuel the outcome of the game. Yeah you had to choose your powers and special abilities and teams but as I said earlier that still outdated gameplay man sorry.

I have been playing video games for a long time I have owned most of the systems that were made at one point or another and I have played almost every system out there and to be honest with you for me there were 3 things that stood out about this game
1. Story second to none
2. Characters that you have control over that interact with each other as a team to kill other enemies. This was a very cool feature.
3. The amount of Playable Marvel Characters standard and unlockable ones.

Everything else I'm sad to say....... been there done that.
stupify_me
stupify_me - 6/1/2009, 3:55 AM
I'm sorry, but I saw more variety in bad guys in this game than most games out today. Most games now is one single minded enemy that you fight endlessly Gears of War is the perfect example. There is no variation in the enemy's in that game or take any war based game. At least in MUA the enemy's change based on what level you are currently at. I mean if your fighting at shield, or Asgard you will get new enemies. I'm not sure how you consider the game play/controlls to be so old. They can't be that old given that Atari/Nintendo/Sega were all consoles with out enought buttons to cover what you do in combat on this game. With the four character overview style it's pretty hard to get much more complex in it's game play other wise the game would just become pure crap. You seem to be looking at this as if it were a single character game, but you forget that style does not fit this game at all. Your starting to ask for way to much beyond what it is and you might as well just turn the thing in to a RTS.If they started making the gameplay even more complicated it would be come to character centric on certain people and turn off a lot of players.
Hellmont
Hellmont - 6/1/2009, 4:33 AM
You must be talking about the variety in their big bosses and mid level bosses. But I'm talking about their minions most of those were all the same with small differences. And yeah they do get harder because your characters become more powerful as time goes by but as I said before those are old gameplay mechanics. Yeah in some levels you needed someone who could fly and such and that was cool but after a while it became predictable. The changes in between teams were never all that drastic and that to me is just poor game development.
You cant necessarily begin to compare Halo or Gears becasue those are first person shooters and yes many of the enemies your are up against are almost all the same but then again the game mechanics are totally different and MUA is by far no first person shooter. But you can compare MUA to Baldurs Gate for PC or Final Fantasy but when you do that MUA falls very short. That is the quality of gameplay that I expect from a multi-million dollar game developer like Activision and hey I'll admit it I bought MUA because I wanted to play as wolverine, ghost rider and the thing and other characters but the rest of the game was pretty weak for an Action Adventure RPG

ThunderCougarFalconBird - 6/1/2009, 5:36 AM
@ TheMyth - Agreed. The 1st was very repetitive. I liked it just for the choice of teams but it didn't matter who you were you could just walk straight through every level constantly tapping "X". I'll still get this game as it should be fun even if there's little improvement on the 1st.

Has anyone else noticed how they are suddenly pimping Deadpool out like a whore to sell this game? Maybe a direct link to the sudden rise in Deadpool avatars on this site! Flavour of the month anyone? (not picking at you guys, he's cool, just find it amusing).

Side note: Who's got "Infamous" yet? It freaking rocks! Howlett04 - PS3, add me if you can be bothered!

Commented first and then I read the rest of everyone's posts:

One of the other main seeling points of this game is that it's Co-Op!! Me and my bro can have button mashing contests!

Team:
1. Thor
2. Iron Man
3. Captain America
4. Wolverine

Kick Ass Team!!

This isn't relevant but Deadpool on Top Trumps sucks! lol.. My baby cousin beats me everytime :-P

Howlett04- Hey dude, please tell me more about InFamous other than it's free roming, you chose between evil and good and you have electro's powers. Cause right now, i think it's a cool game but i'll wait till it gets "greatest hits" pricing. Unless you can get me sold on it!!! IMO, it doesn't get better than Batman Asylum and Tenchu4 coming soon cause i just love stealth!!! If you tell me that in InFamous you get stealth skills, i'm sold :))

As for UA2, i didn't read Civil War but... can anyone tell me WHY THE [frick] DID CAP HIT IRONMAN???? And IF i buy this game, my team would be:

Pretty much the one i had in the first! A full on healing factor team (na na na boo boo):

-Wolverine
-Blade
-Deadpool
-Luke Cage

Or any other new character that they gave a healing factor to LOL :P Yeah i'm cheating, who cares LOL :P

Shaman that was my favorite team to use in the first one, too!

Can't wait for this one, so what if it gets repetitive? Where else do you have a choice to play so many superheroes, through such an awesome storyline?

I'm getting it!

sniktchick74- Since i suck at these games, i hate having to check up on everyone's health so it was only logical to pic an all out healing factor team or else i would have never finished the game LOL :P Since we're on "healing factors" is Wolverine origins on PS3 any good???

Does anybody else think they're pushing Deadpool a little too hard? I mean, the Ryan Reynolds spin-off is going to be terrible, I wish they'd stop this weak attempt at generating interest in the character.
