New BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY DLC Will Be A Mini-Campaign, Not A Challenge Map!

Dust off that copy of Batman:Arkham City. The latest Harley Quinn-centric DLC will actually have a story to tell unlike the combat objective DLC's Rocksteady has released in the past.

Batman Arkham City

Achievement Trophies, discovered by PS3Trophies.org, indicate the Harley Quinn themed DLC will be a mini-campaign, [i.e. an actual story] rather than another DLC focused on beating up bad guys in inventive ways. Of course, there's no indication as to "what" story this will tell, as this could be a continuation of the "bun in the oven" Easter Egg from the main story or could be something else entirely.

In previous DLC's named after a character, [see Catwoman, Nightwing, Robin, etc]. that particular character was playable so you may be able to play as Harley. One thing that's not speculation is that you will be able to play as Robin. One of the Trophies you can achieve requires using "5 different Quickfire gadgets in one fight as Robin," so you'll definitely be able to play as Tim Drake.

What's most encouraging here is that this could be the tipping point for more story DLC with other characters as was promised by Rocksteady during the games initial launch.

Batman: Arkham City is a 2011 action-adventure video game developed by Rocksteady Studios. It is the sequel to the 2009 award winning video game Batman: Arkham Asylum, based on the DC Comics superhero Batman. The game was released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. The game was officially announced during the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards and was released worldwide for consoles, beginning in North America on October 18, 2011, with the Microsoft Windows version following on November 22, 2011. A Wii U version is set to be released in 2012. A spin-off iOS game, Batman: Arkham City Lockdown, was developed by NetherRealm Studios and released on December 7, 2011.

Arkham City was scripted by veteran comic book author Paul Dini, who also scripted Arkham Asylum. It features a main plot and side-missions that develop their own sub-plots. The main storyline revolves around Batman's imprisonment in Arkham City, a sprawling new super-prison five times bigger than the original asylum and enclosing a wide variety of industrial districts, iconic locations and Gotham City landmarks. He must now stop mishaps occurring around this chaotic enclosure caused by Gotham's most notorious super criminals. The game has received universal critical acclaim and is one of the highest-rated video games of 2011 according to review aggregator Metacritic.

I hope they do more mini-champaigns. It really hurts the game to have all these great characters and you can only do challenge maps

FINALLY! They must have read some of the feedback. Now I really have a reason to go back to it besides challenge maps! I never bought them anyways, saw it as a waste.

YES PLEASE!!! More story driven DLC for "Arkham City"! I think they should go the Assassin's Creed route and do a game in btween this and the next that bridges the story, using the different characters.

mini-campaigns are a great idea - too bad it has taken them so long to bring them out.

Sounds great! Got the Nightwing pack but it was a waste of money with being confined to challenge maps. They did the Catwoman download well so they just need to repeat that format with different characters.

All the DLC was well worth the price for this game, this is one of the only games I didn't feel nickle and dimed in the past few years, good games with worth-while DLC are worth the coin. I had just started playing this again too, can't wait.

About time too. Hiding in the dark in my Nightingale armour in Skyrim just because it was the most Batman-esque thing to do was getting a little desperate. Back to the city....Oh yeah....P.S - I do have a life, honest I really do, with real people in it and everything...

Am I the only person that was disappointed with this game? It looked great, it was a really cool concept and fun to play but when it was over it i felt like..." is that it'?. I just feel like they could have done more.

I hope they make a mini campaign where you play as Red Hood. He could do lethal takedowns and counters.

Finally! There is so much scope for alternative storylines (Robin distributing the cure, how Nightwing fits in, Harley's pregnancy, Talia's disappearance, more Scarecrow teasers). Catwoman DLC was released day one, so I really expected to get something new by January. Better late than never though, I guess.
Cassidy75
Cassidy75 - 4/3/2012, 8:47 AM
Moltenman- I think you're on your own for now. I'm not sure that I thought that, it felt short but that was because I played it so hard that it was over really quickly, and then there was Arkham City...I played that a lot too!!
Moltenman
Moltenman - 4/3/2012, 8:53 AM
It seems that way Cassidy75. Don't get me wrong I am not hating on the game. As I said it looked great and played well but i just felt there was alot more they could have done with it if they had just run with the concept. maybe it was the teasers like having the Sionis building but not seeing the Black Mask....I guess I am just being picky. I will shut up now lol
Cassidy75
Cassidy75 - 4/3/2012, 9:09 AM
Ha..No it's cool man. Hopefully they'll expand on this stuff a little with the DLC's..you're right though, there was a lot to fit in and some of the villains didn't get as much time as I would've wanted. Still my favourite game ever though!!
DCfan89
DCfan89 - 4/3/2012, 10:03 AM
yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just what i was praying for. i just beat it recently and I've done most of the side missions. but i always wanted robin story mode gameplay. hopefully we can get some nightwing as well
Cassidy75
Cassidy75 - 4/3/2012, 10:08 AM
Heh heh heh...His head is all fake looking and bulbous, you sure that's not Chris Evans? Perhaps he was attempting to cut himself out of the paper bag he had attempted to act his way out of?

See? Stay here long enough and you end up doing it...It's like written Tourettes....

Nightwing better be playable soon, and have some [frick]ing lines. Get someone like Jesse McCartney to do the voice, it fits perfect! Biggest disappointment in Arkham City was that Nightwing is voiceless and has no personality
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 4/3/2012, 12:03 PM
By the trophy descriptions it seems you'll be playing strictly as Robin. I just hope he got his voice back. He had a voice actor for his cameo in the main campaign but became silent when it came to the Challenges. I was also disappointed Nightwing didn't have a voice. Either way, I know this will be sick so I'll be getting it day one.

One of the best single player games I've ever played. There are so many other potential mini-campaign story lines to this game. I could care less about playing Harley Quinn but I'm so down for extra mini-campaigns!
mgeoff88
mgeoff88 - 4/3/2012, 5:06 PM
Woop! Woop! I'm glad we're finally getting some campaign DLC.

If they're doing DLC for Robin, I would assume Nightwing can't be too far behind. Fingers crossed. :)
superherofan21
superherofan21 - 4/3/2012, 5:49 PM
Finally! More story to Arkham City! I don't think you'll play as Quinn, though: It could be like the Black Mask challenge and Robin will chase her down, or something. Playing as Harley would be intereseting... maybe the story of the campaign will deal with her losing Joker. Or the campaign takes place before AC? I am also convinced that they're doing a campaign for Nightwing, as his voice actor is listed as Quintin Flynn. Maybe they had the actor come in and do some VO work? I hope that the campaigns are worth the wait!
