Gladitator actess Connie Nielsen, who previously played a Queen in Ridley Scott's Gladiator, will play Queen Hippolyta in Warner Bros' Wonder Woman movie.  She joins a cast that includes Gadot, Pine,  Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, and Ewen Bremner.  The film is currently shooting in the UK and Italy and will be released in the United States on June 23, 2017.  Patty Jenkins directs fro ma script written by Jason Fuchs.

Nicole Kidman was originally in the latter stages of negotations to play Wonder Woman's mother but schedule conflicts forced WB to look elsewhere.  For a time, the studio considered simply giving the Hippolyta role to Robin Wright but in the end, the studio has decided to cast Nielsen.

Ok, the cast I've seen for WW is solid, but I get the feeling WB is really hoping the character WW itself sells the movie, really, who's the biggest "named" actor in it?

Aren't the Amazons in the DC Universe unaging? I wonder why they cast an actress in her 50s to play Hyppolyta? I would have imagined a more youthful looking character, at least an actress in her mid-late 30s.

She is gorgeous!!! I bet she will fit the character just well... at the same level or even better than Linda Carter!

@batz11 to be honest, I think that they have high hopes that BvS and SS do the heavy work to pull this universe in motion and the right direction to support the next wave of movies without the necessity to recur in big names.

Either way, like you said before, the cast its pretty solid. Maybe we can get another few surprises while the film is still shooting.
