Even before she proved her action credentials in No Time to Die, there was a lot of chatter among comic book fans about Ana de Armas potentially playing a superhero. With John Wick spin-off Ballerina on the horizon, we'll soon see more of what she's capable of, and a taste of that can also be found in Apple TV+'s Ghosted.
Doing the round to promote the movie, de Armas was asked by Wired whether she would consider taking over the role of Wonder Woman from Gal Gadot.
Remember, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran pulled the plug on Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3, shelving the movie because it didn't fit into their DCU plans (and, if rumours are to be believed, her outline wasn't very good).
As a result, there's a lot of speculation about Gal Gadot's Diana Prince potentially being recast, a move that would make sense considering the fact we're getting a new Batman and Superman. Going back to de Armas, however, and she doesn't currently seem keen to pick up where Gadot has left off.
"Well, I feel like Gal Gadot is doing a great job," the actress rather diplomatically responded. "So you know, I think she should keep doing that."
When the role isn't currently vacant (at least not officially), we're not exactly shocked by de Armas' answer to this question. She'd be a great choice to suit up as the DCU's new Amazon, though there's a chance the character is being shelved for now seeing as we're getting an HBO Max TV series revolving around Themyscira long before the hero was born.
Time will tell what becomes of Wonder Woman as she's the one member of the Trinity we can't predict the future of for the time being.
Who do you think should play Wonder Woman in the DCU?
