Next year's Academy Awards are fast approaching and Warner Bros. has launched its "For Your Consideration" Oscars campaign page featuring the movies they intend on submitting for consideration. Among them are Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk, The LEGO Batman Movie, and Wonder Woman. The DC Comics adaptation is being put forward for fifteen of sixteen eligible categories.

As a result, Patty Jenkins is up for Best Director, Gal Gadot is up for Best Actress, and elements like Costume Design, Film Editing and Visual Effects are also highlighted. The question is, will Wonder Woman win any of these or even be nominated? 2018 marks the 90th edition of the awards show so it would make it all the more historic if this female-led superhero movie were to win Best Picture!

@Erik10101 - Come on Warner Bros. Wonder Woman is a good movie and all but nowhere near Oscar worthy.

@Erik10101 - lol they should have submitted it for the golden lion or rooster awards (chinese oscars) instead

@rebellion - I also enjoyed the film, but this is a bit much. This was a well-done CBM and a solid overall film, but it really didn’t reinvent the wheel here. Just because the film features a female lead in a CBM and is not directed by a man should not make it more worthy of an Oscar.

There was a lot of fine work in this film by a lot of folks involved, and again, I like the movie, but jeez. I mean, the Oscars are almost a joke now anyways, but it would be nice if they meant something again. They should be awarded to efforts that are strokes of genius, and while great, I didn’t see much genius in the Wonder Woman movie.

@rebellion - Blade Runner 2049 alone wipes the floor with WW in every single category. Then rips its head off and shits down its neck.

@TomSolo - you’ve been brainwashed by the patriarchy. It has a female lead, it must win in every category. Merit is overrated.

@Axiom - Ha!

Seriously, though... I remember when I first started air brushing one summer at an amusement park. I had some downtime, and so I start airbrushing a full-shirt portrait of Jimi Hendrix in black and white. It turned out well, and I was proud of it. I was in art school at the time, so I was practicing art every day in various mediums, I had a solid foundation, and I took to airbrushing fairly quickly compared to the other young folks who worked there.

Anyway, those kids were Gaga for this shirt, and said all kinds of outrageous stuff about it. All praise, but most a lot of it was a bit too much. I knew that, while it was a solid portrait, I was not necessarily original, and my technique could be better. I was a bit embarrassed by some of the compliments and critiques, as they my shirt was just not worthy of it. My boss new what was up too, as she was pretty fantastic with an airbrush.

My point is, I wasn’t reinventing the wheel. And while my shirt looked great, I wasn’t something worthy of the ridiculous praise some of my coworkers threw at it. Nevertheless, it is a great shirt. I still have it hung up in my music room, and I am very proud it. But it also should not win an Oscar.

@TomSolo - no argument from me, WW is so far the only DCEU movie I actually enjoyed watching from beginning to end. But no, it doesn’t deserve an Oscar. And I was joking with the patriarchy thing but you just watch the keyboard warriors going crazy online to call a misogynist top everyone who dares say it doesn’t deserve an Oscar.

Still, good cbm. It’s on par with Ant-Man for me (not in terms of sfx but how engaged I was).

@Axiom - I kmow what you mean about sjw's. They piss me off.

I'm jist glad WW was a fine film. It managed to set up the character with a fresh take that still showed respect to the character's history in the comics. The plot was engaging and fun but not ridiculous. Hopefully DC's next run take a page from this movie and make films with solid stories. In the right hands, these characters can be awesome on screen.

There are too many real contenders like Dunkirk, The Shape of Water, The Post, Darkest Hour, Call Me By Your Name, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Lady Bird, Get Out, The Florida Project, Phantom Thread, Mudbound, The Big Sick, Battle of the Sexes, Blade Runner 2049, and Molly's Game for Wonder Woman or Logan to have a shot.

Production design, definitely. Cinematography and sound, probably. Acting, no (even though it's really good for the most part). Effects, [frick] no. Picture and director and screenplay, probably not. Everything else, we'll see.

Cute.

They're kidding themselves.

The only one with a shot at an award is Chris Pine, but so many others are better.

it's a good movie yes but the academy doesn't tend to nominate cbm's for best picture unless there directed by Christopher Nolan
