WONDER WOMAN Takes Cover In A New Image; Patty Jenkins Says Some Of Her THOR Ideas Made It Into The Movie

As you will no doubt recall, Patty Jenkins was Marvel's first choice to helm Thor: The Dark World before departing the project due to the ol' "creative differences", but it sounds like the director carried a few of the ideas she had for The God of Thunder's sequel over to the first big-screen outing for Wonder Woman.

While being interviewed at WonderCon, Jenkins was asked if any of the plans she had for Thor made it into Wonder Woman, and admitted that they did, as she sees both characters' arcs as being quite similar.

"I mean they’re very similar in a lot of ways. It’s a lot of the same questions and a lot of the same struggles that I was interested in Thor’s story or here, although in that case it was the second movie so it would never have been as pure and as simple of an arc, so I really think it was meant to be that I ended up doing this one, which I had always wanted to do anyway. And I got to do it in a kind of bigger and purer arc rather than putting it in that other story."

In addition, we have a new still featuring Gal Gadot's Diana taking cover alongside some of her brothers in arms:

Wonder Woman also stars Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, and Lucy Davis. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the movie is set for release on June 2nd, 2017.

I'm cautiously optimistic. If this blows, I'm jumping ship. But again, I'm hoping it's good. I really, really am.

@BillMurray - Exactly. If it's good, Aquaman and The Batman can be good. If not then the DCEU is 0/4 and I'm completely out.

Still have a bad feeling about this one. So many behind the scenes/creative issues with this that make me think it is another train wreck on the way.

@MrDandy - there haven't really been any creative issues, aside from that stupid rumor last summer

Don't you just love when people make up stuff, it makes you wonder to who are they lying to...

1. Machellle McLauren and her writing team leaving the film due to creative issues
2. The first screenplay written by the screenwriter of Ice Age 4 and Pan
3. Patty Jenkins being hired after being fired from Thor 2 and having not made a film in 13 years except for a critically panned Lifetime movie.
4. Produced by Zack Snyder
5. STORY by Zack Snyder (really?!?!)
6. New screenwriters have only written on CW shows or modern day soup operas
7. Gal Gadot hired despite never carrying a film in a leading role and never really proving herself as an actress

This are all behind the scenes/creative choices that are in my mind either red flags or questionable.

@MrDandy - 1. From what we heard, Michelle Maclaren had terrible ideas for the movie. Patty Jenkins, on the other hand, has wanted to do a Wonder Woman movie for decades.
2. They, thankfully, realized their mistake, and hired two Comic Book writers to do a page one rewrite before they started filming. (Warner Bros. choice of writers still concerns me though. Goyer should have been out right fired after Batman v Superman. I feel like Geoff Johns should just rewrite everything.

4. Means very little, except that everything will look like it came right off the Comic Book page, or damn near it.

5. Zack Snyder is nowhere near as bad a storyteller as people think. His stories, especially recently, have been about conquering adversity and becoming stronger as a result. They have challenged their characters, help them become who they are, by learning who they are not. His real stories are suffocated by the controversy surrounding the smaller things.

6. Allen Heinberg's Comic Book credits include Young Avengers, Uncanny X-Men, Justice League of America, an issue of Superman/Batman, and a run on Wonder Woman.
Geoff Johns is one of the most celebrated modern Comic Book writers working today. That sounds like a Hell of a lot more than "only worked on CW shows and modern day soap operas."

7. She's a good actress. Nothing mind blowing yet. But that could be shown with Wonder Woman.

I'm not saying there aren't reasons to worry. With the exception of Allan Heinberg, Geoff Johns, Cristopher Nolan, and Chris Terrio, Warner Bros. has chosen a lot of terrible writers to work on these DC Films, and who knows how many will receive a page one rewrite by Geoff Johns or another prolific Comic Book writer, if any, before it's too late. Also Tsujihara is still running everything, and he has already ruined two good movies with his terrible editing. The threat of him ruining a third is always looming. But very few of the reasons you cited are actual causes for concern.
