DARK PHOENIX Star Sophie Turner Reveals Why She Doesn't Think The X-Men Will Work In The MCU

Marvel Studios will reboot the X-Men for the MCU but Dark Phoenix star Sophie Turner has now revealed a surprising reason why she believes the heroes shouldn't exist in the same world as The Avengers...

Dark Phoenix is set to be released next June but that will be the final X-Men movie not set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Fox/Disney merger means that both that team and the Fantastic Four will return "home" and exist in the same world as The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. However, actress Sophie Turner clearly doesn't believe that the MCU is capable of handling such "complexities."

"I don’t know," she said when asked about the X-Men's future. "I feel the complexities of the X-Men being shunned by society and segregated is not something that happens in the Avengers universe. Of course, I want to see them crossover but I don't think the themes through X-Men will collaborate well with the Avengers. It’ll be very different. If they do it, I’d love to see how it turns out."

While it's highly unlikely that Marvel Studios would keep the same cast members for its planned reboot, the Game of Thrones star may have just talked herself out of a job with these remarks about the MCU. There's absolutely no reason to think that Feige won't introduce the complex themes the actress is referring to in the eventual reboot and they'll probably do it in a more comic accurate way!

What are your thoughts? As always, be sure to let us know that down in the comments section.

"I don’t know," she said when asked about the X-Men's future.

She could have left it at that!

@DBLACK - I loath the fact that anyone in this universe (and I think particularly including her from when I am fairly certain she mentioned it in the past) thought there would be any cross-over. The only one deserving and semi-willing but not really up to doing that is Hugh Jackman. But at this point a flavour of fresh X-Men is needed. But thinking Fox-Men universe is competitive enough to "cross-over" is just so extremely cringe. And to think that they would be the actors in the roles ... I mean they surely knew no one wanted it and Disney and Feige would never ever ever let it happen

This is what we need and deserve:

While I am at it I will also say let's get some love for these guys perhaps, Mr Feige (you incredible human, you):

@DBLACK - It was just her acknowledging that the X-Men perhaps work better in their own little bubble. The Avengers characters tend to be more celebrated and accepted, whereas the X-Men stories tend to lean heavily on prejudice against mutants and people with abilities.

It's similar to how Batman's threats in Gotham City, could easily be handled by one of his superpowered Justice League teammates. In a comic or adaptation, you just have to compartmentalize that, and have some suspension of disbelief.

@MikeNolan - It was actually Alexandra Shipp that made the smart ass comment back when it was first revealed that Disney was looking to buy Fox.

She tweeted something along the lines of "LMAO at the people thinking this means the X-Men will be recast".

It was quite comical because it was like everyone in the world was in on the joke except her.

@WAKANDABATMANFOREVER - I agree with what you are saying and I've been saying it since the Disney deal was first announced. The X-Men always work best in their own corner of the Marvel Universe, only crossing over sparingly.

Having said that, she did say this, "I feel the complexities of the X-Men being shunned by society and segregated is not something that happens in the Avengers universe".

That does sound like she's talking about the MCU as a whole, and not just how the Avengers are received in the MCU.

@CorndogBurglar - I kind of see her point, in this world super-powers are cool and everyone looks up to the avengers.

But, what happens when "regular" people all over the world start developing these powers? Suddenly it's not just a handful of poster-boys saving the world but scared and confused kids accidentally (or intentionally) causing mayhem in the average joe's backyard. That can easily lead to prejudice and fear mongering.

And with the accords already established as a regulatory body for super-powered folks, people like General Ross will be coming down hard. I'm betting that's where things like the sentinels start cropping up...

@BizarroGrif - I guess General Talbot will just be up in the air.

@IcemanX - How she hadn't done enough background knowledge on these characters to know their names (especially the ones she f***ing starred in Apocalypse along side like WW III and Hank) is just so tremendously cringe ... any 7 year old who has access to a computer or a visual dictionary their parents bought them and a slight inkling of passion for X-Men would know more than she does

@MikeNolan - Literally buy one volume of a decent X-Men title and you would have a competitive knowledge to out do her in this video fml

@MikeNolan - IMO, I would start with the original X-Men (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Angel & Beast) first, THEN..... add Wolverine, Storm, etc. to the roster & PLEASE, NO MYSTIQUE!!!

@2013venjix - I agree completely

@MikeNolan - I do kinda like Beast being older than the others though with Bobby being considerably younger - more closely akin to Kitty and Kurt and that wave of mutants
