Disney buying 21st Century Fox is interesting and exciting for a vast array of reasons but comic book fans are particularly excited about the Fantastic Four and X-Men arriving in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recently, we've heard that Comcast could be looking to outbid Disney to purchase the company but a new report makes it clear that Fox is perfectly happy with the deal they have in place with the House of Mouse. If that's the case, forget about that Kitty Pryde movie revealed last night!
Talking at Redcode's Code Media event, 21st Century Fox President Peter Rice called those Comcast reports "speculation-palooza" and while he believes the company would be a great acquisition for Disney or Comcast, it's the former which is the better partner. The only way that's going to change is if shareholders force a vote at Fox but Comcast's bid would have to be massive for that to happen.
The regulatory process is already underway for the Disney/Fox deal and the closer that gets to government approval, the less likely it is that Fox will return to square one to deal with Comcast (that would hurt share prices). So, it looks like we can definitely expect to see the X-Men and Fantastic Four assemble alongside The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy in the not too distant future.
