James Marsden Talks X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

The actor sets the record straight on whether or not he'll reprise his role as Cyclops in the "in-between-quel" X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

For those Cyclops fans, myself included, hoping to see Cyclops' death in X-Men: Days of Future Past undone as part of Bryan Singer's "fix sh*t" approach to what was broken in the prior movies, you may be disappointed by what actor James Marsden had to say about those rumors claming he was spotted leaving with Halle Berry for a flight to Canada to film for the next X-movie...

"No, no X-Men, unfortunately. But who knows? If this next film really works, Bryan [Singer] has said he wants to fix a few things, so hopefully that's one of them. It was great, to have a movie like that, the first two or three X-Men, and the studios in Hollywood work really hard to find a formula that's successful, and you want to keep that intact, so ... "

As for whether or not he has seen The Wolverine, Marsden says, "No, I haven't seen it yet, just the trailer ... but I hope that lays the ground for more. We'll see. I always liked Cyclops, but they have a lot of characters that they have to parcel out, spend time with each one, make sure everyone feels like they've been given their due, introduce them appropriately, but you could do a spinoff of every one of those characters and give them so much depth to the story line."

If true, it's a shame that the possibility of redeeming Cyclops' off-screen disintegration won't take place in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Then again, filming is supposed to last on the movie for another month or two and films have reshoots all the time (look at the last-minute ending change for X2 in 2003, which was filmed in March -- two months before the film opened!), so the odds of having Cyclops come back aren't COMPLETELY unlikely, right?

For more on what Marsden said, including which X-Men spin-off films he'd like to see, go read the full interview on Vulture.com by clicking the source link below.

And I don't believe he's dead. No body, no death. Winter solider a prime example.

Well just like The Wolverine I will not be seeing this. I have not watched one of these movies in the theater since X2.

Too bad it's Wolverine and the X-men, I think he would been a fine Cyclops if Singer want such a tool and made him leader.

He was pretty cool as cyclops in the first X-Men film (by far my favorite!)

Wished he would get his uniform tho and truly command his team! Hell, even try n boss wolverine around!

He's done... get over it. The only real reason why some of you think X3 was bad when in fact, it was the best of the original trilogy.

I mean wouldn't it make more sense to have a younger Cyclops appear in the 70's in Days of Future Past than just having him pop up out of no where in the future timeline?

I didn't think he actually died in the film because as soon as he started swapping with Jean her powers kicked in and who's to say he didn't blast her away and end up running off??

Then again, he confirmed cyclops was not only dead but "DISINTEGRATED" ---ouch! lol

Looks like that Australian actor Josh Helman may be the new Cyclops!? But then again the guys 27??? So wowwww perhaps maybe not... :( I'm so confused people!! lol

I still think they'll introduce young cyclops and jean at the end though. Perhaps an end credit scene?

Would be great to see Mr. Sinister next on the big screen!

cyclops is the leader of the x-men when wolverines brain returns to the future in the post credits stringer where we see no trace of trask sentinels but a new threat named apocalypse has risen and he has a big purple chin and he slowly turns and smiles at the camera setting up age of apocalypse

@sansClaymore. that would be pretty awesome to see cyclops at the end. at that thats how apocalypse is introduced. but less avengers like. i wreckon fox could easily pass that off.

Just make him INTERESTING, please -__-

I hated how his death almost seemed needed because he was one of the most unnecessary, useful characters in the movie next to Rogue.

yes and shane black could have easily replaced the trevor slattery scene with aldrich killian instead and used the china deal to film the climax there using 50 ironman suits against the mandarin who used the extremis virus to merge his mind with the ten rings activating a giant ancient metallic dragon named fin fang foom lying dormant under ground
but nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
lol

I wouldn't be surprised if DOTFP would ended with middle credit scene with Cyclops and Jean Grey. With or without little Cable.

He should be in every X-Men movie.
Cyclops is the centerpiece of that team in my opinion.

Well nuts. Marsden is a great actor and I was hoping that Singer would make it work. I like the sentinel, Wolverine time traveling, the massive cast, and all the other jazz that people have complained about. This is the first thing that makes me think the movie won't be as good as it could have been.
SimonM7
SimonM7 - 8/2/2013, 8:00 AM
The reason Cyclops died in the first place was that Marsden was unhappy with his screen time in X-Men 1 and 2 and didn't want to commit to another movie. I'm not surprised to see his attitude hasn't changed.

If they bring back Cyclops & maybe even Jean then I'll be happy. Things were not left right after Last Stand, that being said if things are fixed I think I'd like Last Stand more as we can look as that as the lowest the X-Men were brought in their struggle e.g. a bit like how Empire was the darkest film. But there is hope of changing the past etc plus I have to admit the music in The Last Stand was great. Cannot wait for DoFP
