If you are looking forward to "X-Men First Class", you might as well not press on any further with this article. That back button on the top left of your screen, it's a reminder that you do have options. By the way, you look extremely good today.
The "X-Men" movie that was released in 2000 by director Bryan Singer, was phenomenal, it had some plot confusions, but all in all it was a good movie. It was fun to watch and it was fun to tell my girlfriend to shut up while Sabertooth was fighting Wolverine.
"X-Men 2" I was kind of on the fence about, but it wasn't a terrible movie. It wasn't an amazing movie, but there have been worse Marvel movies. I mean we got to see Colossus, and we got to see Nightcrawler.
Now "X-Men 3" was a tragic excuse for a movie, and it wasn't because it was just so far from any of the X-Men comic series, it was just a bad movie. Juggernaut wasn't even recognized as Charles Xavier's brother, he was wearing a belly shirt, and worst of all they referred to him as... a mutant. Cyclops shot his beam at a lake and then died, you'd think he would've had a bigger role. Now I never thought that I'd see a movie I hated that had Patrick Stewart in it, but wouldn't you know it X-Men 3 managed to do it for me. You kill off Patrick Stewart in any movie and it's going to break everyone's heart.
Now "First Class" has become quite the debated topic for comic book movies. It's getting ripped on so badly and I can see why. I'm not one to judge a movie by the first few glances of pictures or trailers, but this is an exception. The problem is that they're trying to relate all the new movies to the original 3 movies. You think they would've learned from "X-Men Origins Wolverine", but no. I know Marvel is all about continuity but certain things need to be changed. They managed to throw Havok into the First Class, but I'm pretty sure Havok is Cyclops's little brother and how could that work with little Scott Summers in the Wolverine movie, but I'm sure it's okay because Marvel doesn't care about brothers being brothers. They did it with Juggernaut so why not do it with Cyclops. I don't want to see Kevin Bacon in an X-Men uniform, and the last thing I want to see is Azazel and Mystique going at it and having a blue mutant love child.
I have a problem. When a Marvel movie comes out I always raise my expectations for it, it's a bad habit, but I know they can get it right sooner or later. I go see these movies, I walk out disappointed, then go home and cry into my "I Love Patrick Stewart" blanket. When I heard there was going to be a First Class movie I was expecting the ORIGINAL X-MEN; Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. Not the whacked out cast that we ended up with.
In my own honest opinion there are only a few things that they can do to save the X-Men movies. And that would be going through with making an individual "X-Men Origins Magneto" movie, because he's the only reason I keep going to see these movies, growing up reading comics I've always believed that Magneto was the dopest villain. I always preferred him to Doom, and I think that is the one thing they nailed in the X-Men movies, Magneto is the man, so if they actually do get to making the Magneto movie then I believe the X-Men films would be sparked back to the top and be appreciated by all of the die hard X-Men fans.
They could actually reboot the X-Men and do it with the original team. Refurbish the original costumes and give them a nice look. Keep beast looking like a furless bigfoot, have Iceman sliding around everywhere naked, give Cyclops a one piece, and most importantly LET ANGEL GET SOME FIGHTING ACTION!!!
I've said it in last weeks article that I would love to see an "Age of Apocalypse" movie. Having all the X-Men fight for different reasons, being pinned up against each other, Angel becoming "Arch Angel", the story of Colossus becoming evil, Wolverine stabbing Cyclops in the eye, and Cyclops blasting Wolverine's hand off. It was my personal favorite comic book series and I'd pay any amount of money to see this film.
Alright well I appreciate those who took the time to read this, give me some feed back and gimme that glorious thumbs up.
New article next weekend!
