NANNY Director Nikyatu Jusu And TITANS Star Anna Diop Share Hopes To "Manifest" STORM Movie (Exclusive)

Talking to us about working on Nanny together, filmmaker Nikyatu Jusu and actress Anna Diop (Titans) tell us that they're hoping to reteam on a Storm project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Check it out!

Nanny is psychological horror fable of displacement revolving around Aisha (Anna Diop), a woman who recently emigrated from Senegal, who is hired to care for the daughter of an affluent couple (Michelle Monaghan and Morgan Spector) living in New York City.

Haunted by the absence of the young son she left behind, Aisha hopes her new job will afford her the chance to bring him to the U.S., but becomes increasingly unsettled by the family’s volatile home life. As his arrival approaches, a violent presence begins to invade both her dreams and her reality, threatening the American dream she is painstakingly piecing together.

Earlier this month, we spoke with Diop and Nanny director Nikyatu Jusu about this terrifying new horror movie, but also asked the latter to elaborate on past comments about wanting to helm a superhero movie. Diop is no stranger to the genre after playing Starfire in HBO Max's Titans, and it turns out there is one character, in particular, they want to collaborate on.

That is X-Men leader Storm, a hero who has previously been played by Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp on the big screen. The character is in desperate need of an overhaul, and Diop would be a great choice to play Ororo Munroe either in a solo outing or alongside her fellow X-Men.

The actress certainly appears keen on the idea, anyway, so fingers crossed Marvel Studios has taken note.

You can check out Anna and Nikyatu's exchange about Storm in the player below, but be sure to head back here later for our full conversation about their collaboration on Nanny

Nikyatu, I know you’ve said you’d consider a superhero project down the line, so how would you both feel about perhaps teaming up to tell a story in that world, whether it be with Starfire or a completely different Marvel or DC character?

Anna: [Laughs]

Nikyatu: [Laughs] Storm! We are trying to manifest Storm. Like Jordan Peele has his Daniel Kaluuya, I have found [Anna]…

Anna: Scorsese has his DiCaprio…

Nikyatu: Yes! And Spike Lee…who is Spike Lee’s favourite actor these days?

Anna: Denzel.

Nikyatu: I’ve found my Anna Diop, so I think once you’ve found that magic and chemistry, you really want to just figure it out for the rest of your career.

Anna: I will work with Nikyatu for as long as she can tolerate me.

Nikyatu: And I will throw her into every body of water and off every building. You know, we really do want to manifest our next project together in the action realm or just the fantastical realm.

And you’d be on board with Storm, Anna?

Anna: Yes, I would. If it’s her, I would, absolutely.

Nanny arrives in select theaters on November 23 before premiering on Prime Video on December 16.

I feel like it matters more now (MCU) than ever before (Fox), who they cast as each individual xmen. Because these are to be the definitive versions

Wasn't this posted already? I'm expecting the usual suspects to come in and say she's going to play Cyclops or some other coded racist BS.

But, anyway, she certainly has the look for Storm. I'd rather it be Jodie Turner Smith, but if she got it, I wouldn't complain. DeWanda Wise also wouldn't be a bad choice.

I think a lot of these x men can warrant their own solo movies. I hope we can get that and then the actual team up. How they did with phase 1

@thereeljoefish - I think a Disney+ series where each episode focuses on a different X-Man's origin l, leading up to them meeting Xavier is the best way to go.

@CorndogBurglar - ohhh I like that too. Like werewolf. It would be cool to focus on like 3 characters though. Keep it small and the story tight. When we got into 10000 X-men on screen it made me happy, and then was like, shit…..I didn’t get to see anyone enough.

@thereeljoefish - Agreed. So with a series like I mentioned, everyone gets introduced and is known about through that.

Then, with the X-Men films, they take a Justice League Unlimited approach. They should have 3 or 4 mainstay characters that are in every movie (Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, and Jean?). Then, depending on the film and who the villain is, they can pull in 2 or 3 other X-Men that we already met on Disney+. So if there's a movie that requires stealth, breaking into some place, and a big enemy like Juggernaut, then that movie can include Nightcrawler, Gambit, and Colossus or Rogue, along with the 4 mainstay characters.

That way you get movies with different X-Men, and none of them need any introduction because we already know about them from the D+ show. And you also don't get an over-populated cast in any given movie.
