Comparing The Theatrical And Rough Cut Of X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Comparing The Theatrical And Rough Cut Of X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Interesting details on how the two versions compare to one another. I for one will still be in the theater May 1.

AICN reports:

"Veritas sent in the following message after viewing the edit we'll be seeing in theaters, also including an aside about a conspiracy of silence surrounding advance screenings of the film.

Here's Veritas...

Sometimes there are clauses prohibiting us from writing about a movie before a certain date ("embargo"). But this was different: we had to sign a clause that we wouldn't even TALK about the movie until two days prior to its US release, especially on the web. I found that quite odd.

Add to that recent reports that the finished version is as long as the leaked workprint, even though FOX stubbornly insists that the workprint is missing the material from the reshoots. It makes sense, too, as the trailers have scenes that are not featured in the workprint (Wolverine carrying his girlfriend to the beach, a young Ororo in Nigeria).

Well, having seen the finished film, the mystery is solved: the workprint version IS in fact identical to the release print, sans effect and some audio work. It's obvious that FOX is trying their darndest to keep this news from getting out, because it will eliminate most of the motivation for people who have seen the workprint to pay for a ticket.

Some scenes from the trailer are not in the finished version, either.

The finished effects are lackluster, to say the least - some really bad CGI work made me groan numerous times (especially, but not restricted to, Patrick Stewart's cameo). The scene with Stewart looks so much better in the workprint - trying to digitally de-age him did NOT work this time around...

Good pacing, good lead performances, and some cool comic book fights overcome a non-existing story, horrible dialog (including the classic "I'm so cold..."), and criminally underdeveloped characters. It's a fun flick, but it will never be considered one of the great comic book movies of our time (like Iron Man, Dark Knight, Watchmen, etc.). They also have to jump through some ridiculous hoops to reset all the relationships to properly connect it to the first "X-Men" movie (unnecessary, I think - who seriously gives a shit?)".

Like I said above I will still be in Theatres May 1 to see this movie. I was going to go and give this film a chance before the leaked Internet version and now more so since the Internet leak. As bad as the plot points seem to be, if this film gets no support Fox could very well shut the vault on any future X movies, meaning we will have to wait till Fox loses all rights to the property. If anything maybe Fox will learn from their mistake by listening to the backlash from fans that have been extremely disappointed so far by what they have seen from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Yeah it's gonna suck. I'm not even wasting my 10 bucks on a ticket. Hell I won't even waste my bandwidth on the download. Hugh was a great Wolverine but I have a feeling this is the end of his run. Sorry Hugh!

Why don't you see it first, LastSon, Jesus Christ.

And your avatar, good luck with that happening too.

I will support the franchise. I know there will be awesome parts at the least, so I am not worried.

Weren't they supposed to change the after credits scene at least? I think they might try to make a Nick Fury/Samuel L. Jackson cameo again since he doesn't age either. He could meet Logan and say something like "i'll need you in a few years for a team I'm building" and Wolverine will be mentioned in Avengers as a reserve character. Thoughts?

I have to say no although I wouldn't mind to see what you described but I think it isn't really needed...all you'll see after the credits is the Weapon xi or whatever he will be put back in the picture cause he has healing ability too and its so good his head will come back together

I cant wait for this Movie To Release so i cant stop reading all the under graded opinions of a leaked movie. Who cares if the Movie is not consistant with the comics. None of the X-Men movies or Iran Man was true to the comics. So people give it a rest the movie is gonna kik ass and be awesome just like me. And just like i said in another forum, they should make a handfull of Origin Movies all leading to One epic movie like Lord of the RIngs, with no relation to any of the X-Men movies.

Very well put Vonstallin! I mean really it is just a movie. None of the comic book movies that have been released have ever been close to the original comics. Why is everyone hating Fox for it? I mean I know X-men and wolverine are really beloved franchises but really it's a movie, the goal is to make it as entertaining as possible to all audiences, not just hardcore comic geeks. I will enthusiastically go see it and most likely enjoy it because any chance to see X-Men on the big screen is just amazing!

The Nick Fury/Sam Jackson thing won't happen. Avengers is being produced by Marvel and X-Men rights belong to Fox.

F*CK!!!

I'm so torn...

On one hand i wanna support ANY comicbook movie, especially one where the lead actor is so genuinely honored and enthusiastic about the part.

On the other hand I wanna help send the message to fox that NOT TAKING OUR FAVORITE COMICBOOK PROPERTIES SERIOUSLY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

I don't know if I should see it in the theaters or not....

I call bullshit. I know Jman1977 is just posting from another article, but I say with the way the FBI is crawling all over this leak, no silly asshole is going to breech another contract with Fox by discussing it.

grrr what a coincidence i read a few comic books earler today of wolverine when he was going thru his doubting/depression state after he had lost his adamantum.. getting roughed up by old enemies, had to be saved by kitty pryde for shames sakes! o well, :/

and you people above its not about fox changing the liberties so the general audience can enjoy, its the STORY! and that directly relates so if they have to change stuff to fit there story.. or "adaptation" and it fails, then they fail! stop yelling at us telling us were wrong because we are upset fox messed up another movie. also, people who dont read comic books wont go see this movie twice because they dont give a shit, its the fans of the comic that will go back, were the guys that go back 1 and 2 times, we are the guys that you see 3 weeks later and its just a handfull of people in theater, i doubt ill go see it more then once, i think ill check out the comedy with mike epps the following weekend .. [frick] fox

im still going to see it though, i need a slice of sbarros anyways

i hope this is bullshit...im gonna find out openning night i guess...but if this is the case im probably gonna wait at the theaters and tell people what happens in the film after i see it. i know its a dick move but if the movie sucks this bad then isnt that also a dick move?

Wow It's really interesting how everybody gets on my case for being a naysayer about this movie.
Now here we are a week from gametime and all you guys are thumbing it down too!
All I can say peeps is that I told you so.
I saw this coming literally years ago. Even as soon as the very first details that came in I knew something had gone seriously wrong.

@HUsoldier... no I wouldn't have cared at all. A non sequiter stand alone film would have been good.

Any one who bails on seeing this movie based on the negative shit plastered all over the Internet shouldn't even call themselves a fan of Wolverine. Don't even call yourself a fan of the character if your going to let other people tell you how the movie was. Go see it and watch it yourself, then you can bitch if you don't like it. It's like half of you are suffering from severe generalized anxiety with hyperactive disorder and bipolar tendency's. It's a helluva a combination, making some of you the human equivalent to dogs chasing cars.

well I'm now laughing at those who thought Fox was telling the truth about the 'added' footage. This movie has been doomed (quality wise) since it was leaked that Deadpool would be a super mutant/Baraka Terminator. Wont be seeing this in theaters now (unless proven other wise) and I really am not that surprised that fox would do this.

I'm going to see the film with my ex. If it sucks, I'll get a blow job. Pretty win-win for me.

Also, I didn't watch the piece of shit leaked copy. Why would anyone? If the movie is that awesome, you could wait for the real thing. If the movie was that much shit, you could wait for Netflix.

GUNSMITH: I WILL TYPE IN ALL CAPS SO I KNOW THAT YOU WILL UNDERSTAND ME CLEARLY. YOU'RE WRONG.
IF WE DECIDE TO "DISECT IT AND BREAK IT DOWN" "BECAUSE OF THE DETAILS"... WE ARE NOT BEING ENTERTAINED, THE FILM HAS LOST IT'S ABILITY TO KEEP OUR ATTENTION, AND WE HAVE FOUND OURSELVES LOOKING AROUND THE THEATER FOR OTHERS WHO ARE DISSAPPOINTED AS WELL. I CALL THIS "CRAPMOVIE SYNDROME".
(Sorry dude, I can't type like that anymore. lol)

I love the part about your girlfriend's biggest purse though, that $#it's funny!

In all seriousness, I love the X-Men, Wolverine, and the Marvel universe as a whole. I've collected comics since I was twelve, and I'm now pushing 32. I think we're blessed to live in the time that we are, because we're getting to see MOST of our childhood dreams come to fruition, but... This in no way means that we should just be "happy" that the movies are being made, and that we shouldn't voice our concern, dissappointment, or even our outright disgust with how our childhood dreams are being played out (badly) in film.

Imagine if you will... A Hollywood producer comes to your door and says "Hey kid, I heard you had this great home movie from Christmas of 02' where your family received a visit from Ed McMahon, and he gave you a check for $1,000,000.00 dollars! I want to make a movie about it!" Now fast forward to two years down the road, you're excited to see the film, and you've told everyone about it. You've gathered all of your friends to see it with you at the big premeire. The curtain opens, the light goes down, and... You find yourself watching "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."
Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE me some Willy Wonka, but it's NOT your story. It doesn't resemble your story at all, and you cannot relate to it in any capacity. You look around the theater at all of your friends and family, and they're doing the same thing ("Crapmovie Syndrome")... Looking around in confusion at what they're seeing, and wondering who the hell to blame for the atrocity!
I like Hugh, I love Wolverine, I plan to see the movie, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that noone should complain about this movie. There's just WAY too much to complain about!
Thanks for listening.
