Marvel Studios' plans for the X-Men franchise remain a mystery to us, and we don't anticipate seeing the MCU's take on the mutant team until the Multiverse Saga ends.
However, with Deadpool 3 on the horizon and Hugh Jackman set to return as Wolverine in that movie, we clearly haven't seen the last of the previous iteration of the X-Men. Shawn Levy's threequel is bound to include plenty of familiar faces, while rumours continue to swirl about the original big screen team somehow factoring into Avengers: Secret Wars.
During a recent red carpet interview, Cyclops actor James Marsden was once again asked about the possibility of returning as Scott Summers.
His character was always overshadowed by Wolverine in Bryan Singer's X-Men movies and we're still not quite over how the hero was treated in X-Men: The Last Stand (Marsden's commitment to Superman Returns saw Cyclops killed off in short order). Needless to say, a second chance in the MCU definitely seems to appeal to the Sonic the Hedgehog star.
"Sure. Yeah, I mean, I’m all about material, and what the story is, and what the character would be doing, but it’s a character that I played and it’s very close to my heart," Marsden says. "And that family, I miss it dearly. We created a very special thing with the first couple of 'X-Men' movies and yeah, I’d love to explore that."
"But you know, [I] would want to see what that looks like first, I guess."
Cyclops deserves another chance and it would be fantastic to see him show what he's capable of in one of the upcoming Avengers movies, especially with the Multiverse at play.
