Cal Dodd, the actor who voices Wolverine in X-Men: The Animated Series, has confirmed he's already working on a second season of Marvel Studios and Disney+'s upcoming revival, X-Men '97. Check it out!

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige started his career in Hollywood working on the X-Men movies, so we really shouldn't be surprised at the way he's handled their presence in the MCU thus far.

As well as bringing Sir Patrick Stewart back as Professor X for a cameo role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Hugh Jackman has come out of his Wolverine retirement to wield Logan's claws one more (final?) time in Deadpool 3. The beloved X-Men: The Animated Series is also being revived as X-Men '97, with the show set to arrive on Disney+ later this year.

However, Wolverine voice actor Cal Dodd has confirmed (via Toonado.com) he's already working on season 2!

In a now-deleted Tweet (a fan managed to save the video which you can see below), he wrote, "Yesterday. Studio. Season 2. GREAT session!" In the video itself, the actor would add, "Cal Dodd, voice of Wolverine from X-Men '97. The beginning of Season 2, I say, just the beginning. Strap your seatbelts on, bub. Later."

Needless to say, he jumped the gun with that announcement!

Disney and Marvel Studios have yet to chime in, and we wouldn't anticipate them commenting on or confirming Dodd's unexpected season 2 reveal. The fact he's recording dialogue suggests those episodes have already been written, and we can't help but wonder how long this X-Men: The Animated Series follow-up will stick around.

X-Men: The Animated Series aired from 1992 to 1997, and many of the show's original voice actors have been enlisted for this revival. X-Men '97 was first announced at the end of 2021, with this follow-up airing on Disney+ sometime in 2023.

Be sure to keep checking back here for updates as we have them.

Oh, whoops.

The original run pulled from a lot of the Claremont 80’s and Lee 90’s runs.

I wonder if we creep into any of the great 00’s storylines. I would love if they adapted Messiah complex and all the related stories.

bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 8:55 AM
@mountainman - think they could do Messiah Complex.

I doubt we'll see that in the movies, so it makes sense they adapt the stories in the show they aren't gonna tackle in the movies

mountainman - 2/21/2023, 9:03 AM
@bkmeijer1 - They had covered most of the major 90’s stories, besides Age of Apocalypse. I’d be down for that too.

Could pull from some of the Astonishing X-Men stuff as well.

But I’d love to see a long form version of the Hope storyline.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 9:39 AM
@mountainman - I don't really see Age of Apocalypse happen either in the movies, so could see that happen too. Anything with Hope and Cable really

mountainman - 2/21/2023, 9:46 AM
@bkmeijer1 - But then I wonder do you have to have the mutant population reduced first in order to lead into that? It was really the fallout of House of M that made Hope important.

FilmGuy7878 - 2/21/2023, 9:54 AM
@bkmeijer1 - I honestly wonder what storylines the MCU movies will adapt. Personally for the first film, I'd want a combo of the Wolverine and the X-Men comic series and Giant Size X-Men #1. Like a plotline featuring a group of students at Xavier's School and a plotline featuring the actual X-Men and the two plots cross over into each other as the film goes on.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 10:04 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - I'm kinda hope for movies one and two to be about the original and Giant-Size X-men respectively.

The Xavier's School storyline can be a seperate show to fill in gaps between the movies and what other students are up to.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 10:06 AM
@mountainman - doesn't really need to happen I think.

I do like that Avengers vs. X-Men angle where she's important because she's the one that can tame the Phoenix Force. Could always use that if Avengers vs. X-Men isn't kept for the movies.

mountainman - 2/21/2023, 10:35 AM
@bkmeijer1 - I’m really hoping they slow build the Xavier school Hogwarts-style. Do a show where there are younger kids that will grow into bigger mutant roles later. Like maybe have the New Mutants team cast as 12-13 year olds and don’t see any official superhero action for a few years.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 10:37 AM
@mountainman - exactly what I wanna see. Maybe throw in Hellfire Club and Mystique in as the villains for that show too
mountainman
mountainman - 2/21/2023, 10:40 AM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah they’d certainly have to fight villains of some sort. I just really love the Xavier school and, besides the Wolverine and the X-Men show, it’s never really been adapted well.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/21/2023, 10:51 AM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah they for sure need to get the OG 5 down considering they have never all shared the big screen before.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 10:51 AM
@mountainman - true. With so many school shows (Gen V, Wednesday and such) around though now, I do hope it finds something to set it self apart with
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/21/2023, 10:56 AM
@mountainman - Yeah I've always loved the idea of the school basically being Marvel's Hogwarts or Nevermore. Like imagine a show following Angel Salvadore, Quentin Quire, Alex Summers (will be aged down), Lorna Dane (also be aged down), and Glob Herman as a sort of Breakfast Club like group getting into trouble at Xavier's School while the actual X-Men (my dream team would be Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Iceman, Sunfire, Beast and Banshee [the Theresa Cassidy version]) go on missions.
mountainman
mountainman - 2/21/2023, 11:12 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - 100% agree, even though I’d like the kids to feature some of the OG New Mutants and the adults lineup to be slightly different.
mountainman
mountainman - 2/21/2023, 11:13 AM
@bkmeijer1 - This is exactly why I was so opposed to that recently rumored Strange Academy show. The MCU can only realistically have one school without it feeling to samey.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/21/2023, 11:14 AM
@mountainman - What would your lineups be? I'm curious.
mountainman
mountainman - 2/21/2023, 11:26 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - So for the first adult team I want a mix of OG 5 and Giant Sized team with one wild card. Something like Scott, Jean, Storm, Sunfire, Colossus, and Kitty Pride. Lot's of interesting dynamics between that group. I would be ok with swapping Sunfire for someone else I just like his powerset, he's one of the only main Asian X-Men, and he's an arrogant prick that adds a fun dynamic.

For kids, I'd like a mix between New Mutants, the crew from when Wolverine ran the Jean Grey school, and the New X-Men from the 00's. I'm not particularly picky on people, but I would like to have Cannonball and Mirage from the New Mutants, since they are both very important characters that can be built on. I like the idea of the young Lorna and young Alex you had. Maybe characters like Dust, Husk, Armor or Cypher from the 00's. Then from more recent I do think Quentin Quire would be a really cool add too.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 11:31 AM
@mountainman - agreed. Think I remember that. Same reason an Avengers Academy (ie Young Avengers) isn't something I'm keen on.

Much rather just see Wong and America go on a bunch of adventures and enlist the help of Kamela, Cassie, Kate and Yelena.
mountainman
mountainman - 2/21/2023, 11:34 AM
@bkmeijer1 - Young heroes are fine. They just don't have to have multiple MCU academies. The genre is already feeling oversaturated and Generation V isn't even out yet. Too many schools for special and unique people out there. And the Xavier school was the first (that I'm aware of at least).
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/21/2023, 11:34 AM
@mountainman - Yeah Sunfire is a super underrated character and he's honestly one of my favorite X-Men just because of his super dramatic and colorful looking costume and how much of a complete dick he is.

I love the idea of having Cypher in the mix. He's one of those characters who a lot of people underestimate but ends up being super important. In my take, I'd have Kitty, Cypher, and Doop being the sort of morning announcements team for Xavier's school. Like the idea of Cannonball and Mirage being in there as well (maybe the MCU could bring back Charlie Heaton and Blu Hunt to play them again considering for Charlie, Stranger Things is ending and he'll need a big franchise to join again).
mountainman
mountainman - 2/21/2023, 11:37 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - I'll be honest, I liked the entire cast of New Mutants. Movie was terrible, but I'd bring back all five of them.

Anna Taylor-Joy may want bigger roles these days, but Magik is actually a really cool character and could also fit into the horror side of the MCU that is being built right now.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/21/2023, 11:40 AM
@mountainman - Yeah I'd love for Anya to come back as Magik. There's so many things she could introduce and play a part in. Limbo, teaming up with Doctor Strange, being a part of the Midnight Sons, a possible romance story with Kitty Pryde.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 11:42 AM
@mountainman - even if it's not the first, it's the most popular.

I do wanna see the young heroes too though, so that's why I just rather see some adventure where they all team up for their own convenience. Not because they happen to be part of the same academy.
mountainman
mountainman - 2/21/2023, 11:47 AM
@bkmeijer1 - I don’t see any reason why a Young Avengers (or whatever they call it) can’t take on some lower level threat. Maybe in the street level side. You could even make it tackle real world issues and have them go after child traffickers or something.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 11:54 AM
@mountainman - yeah, agreed. Kinda why I don't wanna see Iron Lad on the team, because that inevitably means Kang and worldending stakes.

If they're going street-level though, I kinda also wanna see Spider-Man there.
mountainman
mountainman - 2/21/2023, 12:18 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I think the kid from Iron Man 3 could have been Iron Lad, but they pretty much have to cast a black actor now so they can't use him.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/21/2023, 2:39 PM
@mountainman - could still cast him as Iron Lad. Just not the Kang variant one.
mountainman
mountainman - 2/21/2023, 2:50 PM
@FilmGuy7878 - Agree with all that, although I’m a big fan of Kitty and Colossus being a thing personally.

Either way, I just really hope they set up the mutant side of the universe well. There is so much potential there.

That's no surprise. Think X-Men 97 always had a two season order.

Hope we do get to see this season this year already though. Think we'll only see Secret Invasion, Loki and What If this year, so there should be time to drop this too.

I wonder if they're recasting Cyclops, or will they start with his funeral. That makes me so mad and sad at the same time.

FilmGuy7878 - 2/21/2023, 10:58 AM
@bobevanz - That would certainty be A way to start off the show. If they did that, I would probably cry for days on end.
