In an interview with ComingSoon.net, Marsden revealed that he'd love to play Cyclops once again when asked about returning for X-Men: First Class but it seems like he hasn't heard anything quite yet:

"I would not think twice about being part of any incarnation of the "X-Men" films. Another one I know nothing about but we got to be very close on those movies. It was a family and a formula that really worked. That would really excite me and please me to go back to that."

"You just have to cross your fingers and hope that it comes together. You want nothing more as an actor to be doing work that people love and the couple of "X-Men" movies that I was lucky to be a part of were examples of films that worked on so many different levels. It's so rare to be a part of something like that."

The movie currently has no release date but is being produced by Bryan Singer and Lauren Shuler Donner. No director or cast members have been announced yet.

yeah, lets make an X-Men movie, about the first class of X-Men. but we'll use the same actors, so we'll have people in their 30's playing teenagers...yeah that would work...


in all fairness i thought he was the perfect Cyclops. Cyke is my favorite character, and i was very pleased with his acting. it just sucks that he was pushed to the back burner in the movies...

Get ready for..."Can't believe they showed the douchy Cyc and killed him off, he's such a master technician and leader and he's so cooool" ;) Ah no he wasn't in teh movie enough but I also think Marsten did a good job. But yeah, why come back to play a teenage version of his character, but also, I don't give a shit!

@CorndogBurglar I thought he was limited too and I hated that. The first movie he did no fighting, The second movie he was kidnapped and we didn't see him til the end, and He died at the beignning of the third movie. and we're talking about the Leader of the X-men.That's what bothered me the most cuz I like cyclops the most out of all the X-men

I was pumped to see colossus in X2 but I don't know about an origin though. I'm not even sure about a deadpool movie.

i can't lie im excited bout deadpool and i think they made a great choice who to play for it but dam nthey need to stop double dipping actors for characters..like chris evans for cap dont get me wrong hes a good actor but shit he was already jonny storm and i personally think he did a good jonny storm but seriously him playing cap in the same (marvel) universe. COME ON???

breakUbatman but what about the first 2 movies he no screen time in? I won't lie to you I would've dropped X-men for Superman too. I don't think he read the script though. As soon as I saw Superman has a son I'd went right back to X-men

Superman son killed somebody with a piano and at that moment he realized.... He didn't need that asthma pump anymore cuz he has superpowers (Q the Superman theme)

I don't think Marsden has a clue what movie is being made. Unfortunately, his time has come and gone to play the X-Men leader. He did fine in the role but it was written poorly.

I thought Marsden did a good job of playing Cyclops and I agree that he was underutilized.
As for him appearing in First Class he could play the grown up version of Cyclops and another actor could play the teenaged version ; most of the movie could be a flashback.
Sure , they killed off Cyclops but as we all know nobody stays dead forever in comics - why should a movie be any different.

also I'd like to say , that I'm concerned at the lack of booby pics being posted in these comments.

C'mon Fisher the guy is a descent enough actor, besides it looks like Marvel Studio movies are the only one's that matter since all the Fox characters are being re-booted.

He was a decent Cyclops. It's just a pity that two crappy directors, three awful scripts and a pile of idiot producers stopped the character from actually being any good! :P

Cyclops is by far my favorite X-Man. He's an awesome leader and a great strategist. I think he got the short end of the stick in the Wolverine..I mean X-Men movies. His coolest part was when he actually got into a fight with guards in X2 and of course that was short lived. And Marsden was perfect for the role as well. If he is in any future X-Men franchises, I hope they give him a bigger role.

He nailed cyclops in every movie.

i dont have a problem with the cliffhanger in x 3, as long as some point they do address it in future films.

i guess first class would be good if went along the line that batman begins did, kind of switching from the past to present, and that way they could have both cyclops actors in first class, use a sinister angle too.

it could work,

i cant wait for wolvie 2 , but i am more looking foward to an x film giving other characters a larger part.

james marsdon was excellent it would be insane not to use him again.

blackurban @ i agree with you 100% about fox only making 4 Wolverine movies.
I thought it was total crap that they spent all 3 X-Men movies blowing Wolverine's d!ck and not focusing hardly any time on any of the other characters. Cyclops is a terrific character and I hate it that Fox didn't did him the way they did.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Matthew Fox play Cyclops if they rebooted and had an older cast. After watching him on Lost I think he has the perfect screen presence and leadership qualities to easily pull it off, he'd just have to bulk up a little.
