So, today I got on CBM to look at the news as usual and I click on the article about Bryan Singer's Update for
X-Men First Class. Then I look at all of the comments and see all of the fanboys whining about no Cyclops and Jean Grey.
First off, the movie is not a reboot. It is a prequel to the 3
X-Men movies. It shows how Professor X met Magneto and how they became divided. It also takes place in the 60's meaning that Cyclops and Jean wouldn't even have been born yet! Now look, I'm not a fan of the Cyclops character at all, which is probably why I don't care about him not being in
First Class but it's just impossible to have him in this movie as it would mess up the continuity. But who knows, maybe he'll be in the sequel (if there is one) if this film succeeds. Yes, there is also some continuity issues with Emma Frost as she was supposedly younger in
Wolverine but they never called her Emma Frost in the movie so maybe it's not really supposed to be Emma Frost.
Now onto Bryan Singer.
Bryan Singer was originally supposed to direct
X-Men: First Class and when I heard this, I was very excited for this movie as I love the 1st 2 X-Men films. Then he dropped out of the director's chair and Matthew Vaughn was hired. Nonetheless I was still excited for this film as Bryan Singer was still involved as producer and writing the story. Now I'm not exactly a fan of Singer, hell I even hate the film he made,
Superman Returns. But his X-Men films were really good and had a certain tone to them (unlike Brett Ratner's). So yes, I can see if most of you don't like Singer because he apparently doesn't like to use Cyclops in the
X-Men films and he's not a fan of reading comic books. But still, his X-Men films were great to me.
So, it seems that I am one of the few people on this site who is still excited and looking forward to seeing
X-Men: First Class. I know most of you have been bashing this movie last night and today but I never bash a movie UNTIL I see it in the movie theater. I just can't believe that people would bash a movie before it has even begun filming and they haven't even seen it. Perhaps I will be wrong and will be joining the crowd of haters for this film after I see it on June 3rd, 2011, but all I know is that I will be seeing this movie and I am still excited for it.
And as another CBM user said on his editorial:
