Some news on the next X-Men movie, plus Constantine 2?

'X-Men: First Class will be lighter fare and the Magneto script is "fantastic."

With X Men Origins Wolverine coming out next week people are already wondering which X-Men movie will follow the release of Wolverine.

The studio would like to know to. We do have a few new clues about the films in the pipeline.

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner admitted Fox had channelled all its energies into X-Men Origins: Wolverine and hadn't decided which project would proceed next. She added that the success of the Wolverine movie would be factor in whether the franchise continued.

Donner has given some new clues on the possibilities, which include X-Men Origins: Magneto, about the backstory of the mutant villain played by Ian Mckellen; and X-Men: First Class, about the earliest students at Xavier's school.

She said: "We have a great [Magneto] script. Honestly, we have all been just so focused on getting Wolverine out that we didn't take the time to sit down and explore what movies we're going to do next within the genre. We will do that. Magneto is a fantastic script, and hopefully we'll make it."

"And then we have First Class, which is based on the X-Men comic First Class and is very literal to the title: it's the first class in Xavier's school. But that's just being written. I haven't even seen a first draft."

"I'm producing that with [X-Men: The Last Stand co-writer] Simon Kinberg. There seems, to me, to be more humour, or more potential for humour. I really like that idea. I don't want to get into what the script is about, but it provides a bit of a lighter touch to the franchise."

On another note, Donner is also working on producing a sequel to Constantine. Warner Bros released the first film in 2005, with Keanu Reeves in the title role as occult investigator John Constantine. It was based on the Hellblazer comic book published by DC's Vertigo.

Donner said a writer was being sought for Constantine 2. Last year, prior to the release of the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, Keanu Reeves indicated that he would be prepared to appear in a follow-up when he told Moviesonline: "I wouldn't mind doing another Constantine."

Well it sounds like Donner has a lot on her plate. I would rather her focus on making sure that Magneto and First Class are top quality, but I suppose a Constantine sequel would be good as well

i wish there could just be an X-Men reboot, i hated the X-Men films and would love a new series of films that stick closer to the comics rather than the crap storylines of the films (such as the rogue and iceman storyline) the x-men films should have been great but instead it was just identical leather costumes and boring characters. x-men 3 killed the franchise off anyway but i blame bryan singer for ruining the films like he did with superman returns. why is a pompous ass like him making superhero films anyway? the wimp obviously hates action...i paid to see a superman film where superman didnt even throw a punch. screw first class just reboot the franchise. 'nuff said

I have no ineterst in X Men first class really, we all know the origins of the characters, non of whom are that interesting anyway! Anybody who said they picked up a copy of X Men in the early days to read about bleedin Cyclops in a dirty dawg liar! And i loved the first 2 X movies, and thought the 3rd was decent but nowhere near what it should have been.

Constantine 2 has me more exited. Now we just need Keanu to dye his hair blond and move to England and we are ready to rock! No?..ok have it your way Reeves. It would be cool if Sandman or Swamp Thing made an appearance

They said the plot for Wolverine would be awesome and it was sh!tty. Now the Magneto script is great? i seriously doubt that. And to have Ian Mckellen play MAgs in an Origin story? That juz means we see him as an old guy already!

@ Program

Completely agree with what your saying about the predictable teenage movie storyline deal. Would hate to see that happen to the movies, even though it has potential to be better then X3.

What went off in my head is why is there no inkling of the Deadpool movie that they were saying will be made if Wolverine does well? Maybe just over kill of news already and people tired of hearing about it? Who knows, just guessing.

Constantine 2 is something I'd very well see. The first one was visualy great and had a great story, with a well flowing plot.Especially like the ending scene of how they portrayed Satan.

I'm not getting overly excited over the proposed x-men spinoffs, but a Constantine sequel is a must. The first one was brilliant in my opinion, and despite what the purists say, I believe Keanu Reeves suits the role perfectly.

I wouldn't mind seeing some more Wolverine, and I'mgoing toactively avoid Constantine, the first was bad enough.

We need costumes on our comic book characters before I go back and see another comic book movie. All the x movies are garbage. Who else wants to see wolverine put on the yellow suit and act like an animal? Right we all do!

yea Constantine was cool if they can make an improvement with a sequel that would be awesome.. if they are not going to reboot the franchise, just bring on the deadpool movie everyone wants to see, make an improved more-to-the-source wolverine sequel (japan) and be done.. or do nothing and let marvel reclaim the license to their own freakin characters and let them make the deadpool movie everyone wants

Ror - in addition to the dye and the move, you might want to add "acting lessons" to your wish list for Keanu (LOL)!

haha of course they are gonna say they have a great script, you arent gonna have some one from any motion picture company say, well the script is a piece of shit, our director has no clue whats he's doing, and this movie will prob suck really hard, not exactly the best way to promote a movie...even if it is true

ill watch wolverine and ill take it as a good action movie with prob a lackluster plot, as far as any spin offs go, if you dont like the original stuff you prob wont like the source material if its being done by the same ppl who did the original

Once again the powers that be in hollywood are over thinking things. No Magneto movie, no X-Men First Class either. Please do an X-Men film that includes the original five along with the second team that was recruited by Professor X. Nightcrawler, Storm, Thunderbird, Colossus, and oh yeah Wolverine. Is it that hard? IS IT REALLY THAT HARD? ENOUGH ALREADY!

@loganoniel..ah i kinda like Keanu in movies. Obviously hes not the greatest actor in the world but he has a certain amount of charisma that makes him watchable. And i thought Constantine was by far his best performance

Well put joshw24. It's too bad Fox will retain control of this franchise. I'd love to see a reboot in 4 or 5 years, well hell, I'd love to see one right now, but the public needs some distance from these films and needs to start fresh. I think an X-men First Class movie would be a great oppurtunity to start over. Just like Batman BEGINS. When the team is limited to fewer characters it makes it easier for a better story. I'm tired of everyone having a hard on for Wolverine all the time. Even that new cartoon is called Wolverine and the X-men. What!? That's like saying the Thing and the Fantastic Four.

@ Rorschach01

I agree with you Ror-01. But First class was really boring, I mean Yes and No. But, last time I recalled talking about cyclops with someone they said "he was a whiny douche bag"...but isnt cyclops the only xmen that has survived threw like almost every war? Not only that but like stood and fought next to his family...and his sons.

The way I see if there was to be any movie made on a X-MAN....it should of be cyclops. I say like a spin-off one movie thing...and then his life with the x-men. Cyclops had to EARN the trust of the Xmen...and even though he was a douche bag..he gained it, and proved to be a greta leader, and possibly one of the best x-men ever created.

First Class wouldn't be bad, but I do agree with Ror-01 its very tricky, and risky....it might not appeal to everyone if its not done right. Wolverine sucked. :)

Just do X4 already, why do we need origin stories anyway, I know it worked for batman but I seem to recall Wolverine being way cooler when we didnt know his past. The Magneto movie should have xavier in it obviously but I know their going to over cameo that movie to death, and hype up the characters powers.
