New Concept Art Reveals That Arnim Zola Was Supposed To Appear In Peyton Reed's ANT-MAN

Arnim Zola's reappearance in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a big surprise for fans, with the character revealed to have survived death by transferring his consciousness into a computer. While Zola was (seemingly) annihilated when the secret S.H.I.E.L.D. bunker was blown to smithereens by HYDRA, it turns out there was another planned appearance for the conniving villain. Artist Josh Nizzi has released some new concept art from Marvel's Ant-Man on his website which shows that Zola was meant to be in the film, with an even more comic-accurate robotic body, no less.

Prior to the release of Ant-Man in 2015, Latino Review had reported that an early draft of the script featured both Arnim Zola and a young Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford) present in the S.H.I.E.L.D. meeting we witness at the beginning of the film. Of course, the film released and the meeting included Hank Pym, Howard Stark, Peggy Carter and Mitchell Carson, with Zola nowhere in sight, but it seems he was initially planned to be included.

Do you want to see Zola appear with his classic robot body? Sound off below!

@deepee3 - I just don't know where a robotic zola would fit in the plot? Sure a cameo from him in the past would have been perfect. But a current cameo wouldn't make much sense. Zola would have been perfect as a cameo in Civil War where Zemo accidentally activates his dormant harddrive and Zola informs him of the locations of Stark's families death

I'm just curious how they were going to fit him in. Was this part of Wright's draft? I doubt it.

@Quicker - I think that intro is probably one of the things that Marvel made him add that kiboshed his participation. Wright originally wrote a film unconnected with the MCU and that opening was pure connective tissue.

@Goldboink - Yep. I'd agree with that.

Although, it would be cool to see Toby Jones and Zola return again.

This one's my favorite.

Does anyone think Hydra should return or AIM should?

@PantherKing - HYDRA should probably take a breather as a main antagonist. Ultron and SHIELD sorta cemented the notion that they've been defeated/pushed back significantly. I'm sure there's still fringe movements out there, best that they operate from the shadows.

@MattBellissimo - True. I want AiM to take center stage in phase 4 because we haven't seen much of them.

@PantherKing - AIM. It really wasn't done any justice in IM3. I think they should do something different like Zodiac or Leviathan. I know they touched on Leviathan in Agent Carter, but that's ancient history at this point.

@PantherKing - I want Hydra to return when Red Skull does. Maybe phase 4 Cap movie.

Maybe they could have him as the villain or at least one of the villains of the sequel. Maybe they could combine him with MODOK somehow.

I'd really like to have Zola back. They easily could have a remote server that he also connected to. it would be cool if Zemo was the one to find him. They'd make a great pair of villains.

@sKeemAn - that'd be cool. Zemo could maybe even abuse Zemo's knowledge to further his own goals.

@ComicsBornAndBred - With that knowledge and Zemo's patience and military knowledge he would be a formidable villain.
