Darren Cross And Hope Van Dyne Are Partners In ANT-MAN?

According to Yellowjacket actor Corey Stoll, his Ant-Man character and Pym’s daughter Hope (played by Evangeline Lilly) colluded to take over Pym Technologies from Henry Pym (Michael Douglas). Stoll also shares some backstory details for Cross and talks about the technology of the Yellowjacket suit.

Ant-Man details are coming fast and furious these last few days.  After yesterdays news blitz, we now hear from the villain of Peyton's Reed's piece , Corey Stoll.  According to the talented House of Cards and The Strain actor, Darren Cross and and Henry Pym’s daughter Hope Van Dyne collude to wrest control of Pym Technologies from Henry Pym.  Said Stoll, “I’ve discovered my own version of [Pym Particles] and I’m using it for militaristic purposes.  I’ve even started to use the technology myself, which as a sort of psychotic effect on people if they use it too much. I can’t get into the details of all the goodies of the Yellowjacket suit but it’s several generations advanced from what Ant-Man has. And then I put it on—and then I am Yellowjacket!” Here's a rundown of everything Stoll told Entertainment Weekly:

Daren Cross is a child prodigy, discovered by Henry Pym at a young age and mentored to help grow and evolve Pym Technologies.
- The shrinking, Pym Particles are something of a myth at Pym Technologies but Cross comes across evidence of their existence and demands that Pym handover the tech. Henry refuses out of ethical concerns.
Cross is smart enough to create his own version of the technology but his version has drawbacks, mysterious "psychotic side effects."
On Peyton Reed replacing Edgar Wright, Stoll stated, "When I first met Peyton I was expecting to meet somebody very nervous and did not see that at all. He was so comfortable. He’s such a fan at heart and was having so much fun that that was really infectious".

That's certainly an interesting development. We've previously learned that Hope and Henry have a strained father-daughter relationship but is it so strained that she would willingly participate in an inter-company coup? The initial trailer would have you believe that Hope is working with her father and Paul Rudd's Scott Lang---is this misdirection? Or is Hope really a mole for Cross?

Ant-Man arrives in US theaters on July 6, 2015.

I'm keenly interested in this movie.

Seems like it might be something different.

Yet, I agree with Scott, "Is it too late to change the name?"

She probably starts of as a villain or something until she realises the effect the suit has on Cross.Would be be really cool though,if they reveal that Pym is the actual villain by the end of the movie and he had been playing with Scott all along

Are they CGI'ing a young Michael Douglas into the flashbacks or did they cast a look alike?

Yeah, I saw this earlier today on EW, it makes me wonder if Hope isn't a good person at the start of the movie. Is she Pym Security working with Darren Cross? Or is she more?

Wasn't there a rumor that she was a SHIELD agent -with SHIELD out of comission -she would need a new job. And of course, Scott somehow changes her mindset -maybe through his redemption arc with his daughter, Cassie. If she is a security person at Pym Industries -it would be essential to get her on board for any heist of the Yellowjacket suit.

At the very least I knew she worked at Pym Technologies. There's a shot in the trailer showing the server banks of Pym Technologies and in the catwalk in the background she's walking with Corey Stoll. But when they do the close up she's gone.

My guess to why they are working together and why Pym is using a "backup lab":

The movie starts with the flashbacks of a young Hank Pym discovering Pym particles and starting to do experiments. At the same time, he meets Janet VAn Dyne who is a bit more adventurous and tells hank that they should use these particles to fight crime.

Cue a montage of the duo crime fighting as Ant Man and Wasp, they go through a few adventures, help with the creation of Shield from SSR and so fourth. Hank and Janet fall in love, have a child (Hope) and then tragedy strikes where Janet is killed in one of their missions.

Hank, always being the pacifist he was, blames himself for this and denounces any ant man work for the future. Hope, blames his father for the death of her mother and a strained relationship comes from this. Hank becomes more and more involved into his work and soon finds Darren Cross, a child prodigy, whom he can connect with over his own daughter...

Darren decides to attempt a coup when he sees that Hank is vulnerable and starts to slowly take over the company. He even uses Hope's hate for her father to turn her against him, and she aids him in taking over Pym Tech. Pym is now obligated to move away from Pym Tech and that's when the ant man suit is found by Darren and he starts to hypothesize that he can create his own pym particles, create the Yellowjacket persona as a military weapon (kinda going Norman Osborne / Spidey 1 Route here...)

Pym doesn't like what's going on and wants the and man suit back so he can fight against cross, thus enters young Scott Lang, a brilliant mechanical / electrical engineer who has been in prison. He got there for trying to either steal something from Pym Tech (some kinda technology to save his daugters life) or something else entirely (money). This catches Hank's eye and he sees the same issues that could happen between Scott and Cassie that happened in him and Janet.

Thus the adventures of Ant Man II start, where Scott manages to steal the suit and fight the now psychotic Darren Cross...

Thoughts?

@ Calder027

I think Pym gets pushed out of the company he created and that's why he has a basement lab.

@wookiefit76

That's kinda what I was going for, guess I didn't evoke that properly.

I'm also starting to think that Scott is the main reason Janet comes back on her father's side, like it's explained by String, as to how Scott is the father to Cassie that Hope never really got out of Hank (Hank trying to become that father, learning from Scott, it's kinda a huge emotional sap circle)

And the raping of the source continues. Everyone head bobbing in comment section as per usual.

His own version of Pym Particles, really? And inducing psychotic side-effects, conveniently serving the plot to set up the villain i suppose?

I bet those "psychotic effects" will lead to Cross backhanding Hope in a scene much like this:

I love that we are getting an Ant-man film so I have every reason to comment on this thread.

@TheRealRemyLebeau I don't see why it seems impossible to you that we could have seen all alter ego's of Hank Pym, as that is exactly where sequels are for. -- Not for made-up stories with all filler and no cohesion by directors on acid (Shane Black).

There is such an immense amount of fantastic material here, and they have done away with it all to the point where they will have to be once again fishing to string together enough material to even have a sequel.

We could have had origin of Hank and Janet, The Ant-man, inventions (i.e The Big House, Pym Particles, Pym Disks), -- Ultron origin, and subsequently the creation of The Vision.

Continuing on, Pym is understandably devastated by the aftermath of Ultron turning on his creator, then goes into seclusion and pops back up as Yellowjacket, possibly causing trouble for The Avengers. - Later on passes the Ant-Man mantle to Scott Lang and we can have another 1-2 movies with that.

Here you go, enough material for 3 movies with Hank Pym and setting up Scott Lang's story in the third film allowing us to see two more entirely different Ant-man movies.

All of the above has been done away with and attributed to other characters to serve the whims of Edgar Wright wanting to make his version of Ant-man.

And we are to assume that Pym has been on a lot of adventures even though the very nature of his character leading to his subsequent adventures have been stripped from him.
