I've come across a piece about writer/director Edgar Wright who spoke to blog, 24 Frames, about returning to the anticipated Marvel movie Ant-Man, which he's been working on since 2008. Interestingly, he spoke about his approach to the movie being somewhat different to the tentpole nature of many comic book movies.

This one's not about about the urgency of summer tentpoles and things going into production without a script ... It's slightly different than that

Not much in the way of plot or story, but it's good to know that it's being worked on. It does however also mention that Wright was recently in contact with Kevin Feige which is promising.

The thing about Antman is because it has been at the development stage for sometime it always means it is at the mercy of decisions made on other films.

So when Fiege as a meeting with Whedon or Branagh or Johnson or Favreau he then has to go back to Wright and say "Sorry dude, but all this is happening now - keep up!".

I freaking LOVE Ant-Man in the Avengers cartoon. I love the way he is always completely unfazed by the absurdity of the situations he is in and just does the next logical thing. Like in this recent episode where the Avengers are transported to an apocalyptic future and he uses cockroaches instead of Ants. That makes perfect sense! He saves the other Avengers with crap like that all the time. He's a great character when you take away that jackass personality that was perfected in the "Ultimate" version. Wright will make a fantastic film.

Mass: I also really enjoyed seeing Ant-Man's ingenuity in that apocalyptic world that Kang brought the Avengers to. He's an important and useful part of the team, and is well-written in the excellent Avengers cartoon series.

My thing with them doing a movie starring Ant-Man is that while Hank Pym is indisuputably a useful and interesting character, I just don't think he's strong enough to carry a movie by himself. Honestly, what is there about him that will appeal to non-comic reading audiences, which are the key to this film's success? To me, the only way this works is to go a different route, and use the Irredeemable Ant-Man as the lead. A 'superhero' as different as him would be a nice twist on things, and could give us a really great "dark" comedy.

@comicb00kguy - High Five! I agree with you that Hank Pym can't operate in a void and hold the film up, but what characters can? Very few. Everybody needs a supporting cast. For Ant-Man, it needs to include people that DO recognize the ridiculousness of the situations, and that DO react to them with panic or humor, in contrast to Ant-Man. Jan, Scott Lang, or Eric O'Grady are all possibilities I would accept. So long as the audience has somebody on screen to reflect how they might react to this situations, and to make Hank's character stand out, it can be great.

For the kids:
It's called Ant Man. They will think the movie will be as cool as Spider-Man.

For the men:
Marvel Studios own Fantastic 4. Hank Pym is a near perfect substitute to Reed Richards.

For the gals:
It can be made as a love story between a rich ditz and a half-deranged genius.

Mass: Good observations about how to make this film work. We definitely need a lot more information here on the direction of this film before forming a proper and informed opinion on it. I just hope they keep the budget a bit lower so it won't have to pull in Dark Knight-like money to break even or make a profit. Using non-union insects would help lower the labor costs. LOL

@ Mass @ comicb00kguy

110% agree

I think marvel realizes everything you guys have pointed out, witch is why they're taking things slow and doing right by the character/property, working out an amazing script.

I think its safe to say Scott Lang will be in the film. Part of me wants to see him die like in the comics and have it profoundly effect Hanks view on himself, the world, and his role in it as Ant-Man. Then have the irredeemable Eric O'Grady come in and fill the character void for the sequel. So we can have a progressive look at Hanks character as well as see a new, very entertaining character in O'Grady.

I have a feeling Ant-Man will be the Marvel project that really shocks people into believing how great a character he is threw sheer quality and enjoyment... It helps that Wright is perfect for Ant-Man and vice versa.

I totally trust Edgar Wright. All his past films show he understands both action and relationships, especially buddy films stuff. He can make this a great film.
