Marvel came under a lot of fire after Edgar Wright walked away from his Ant-Man project, however it doesn't seem to have fazed Kevin Feige, who still seems just as enthused about the upcoming release. The man behind the MCU recently spoke at CIneEurope, where he dished on all sorts of Marvel projects.

"Ant-Man is still going to come out on 17 July [2015], we start filming this August. Edgar Wright, who I've known for many years, who wrote the draft with Joe Cornish - much of the movie will still be based very much on that draft and the DNA of what Edgar has created up to this point, but Peyton Reed has stepped in [to direct]". Feige went on to say that "Adam McKay, a very good writer is reworking parts of the script - not the entirety of the script, but some of it - and it's going to, we believe, come to life in the best version of Ant-Man that we could possibly make. Again Ant-Man is a very important character for us. We like that people don't necessarily know what it is, we like that it sounds sort of strange when you first hear the notion of Ant-Man, or a hero that can shrink, but he's a very key Marvel character: he's a key Avenger."

He went on to talk about the upcoming Doctor Strange adaptation, saying that "Scott Derrickson has been announced as the director. Doctor Strange is a character that I've been interested in for many, many years and that I've talked about in interviews for probably 14 years, because I believe it's very, very important for us to explore every nook and cranny of the comic-book universe and we've done the street-level heroes, and we've done the billionaire superheroes [on Earth]. We've now done the cosmic side with Thor and Avengers and most obviously with Guardians, but there's a whole other side of the Marvel comics, which is that supernatural side - the interdimensional side of the Marvel universe, and Doctor Strange is, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines all of its own." He went on to reveal that an actor is yet to be cast, and that production will begin next Spring.

Feige went on to say a lot more about Thanos, the possibility of a Marvel/Fox/Sony crossover, and the role of the upcoming Netflix  shows in the MCU, so be sure to head over to Total Film to check that out. Marvel's Ant-Man is expected to release on July 17th, 2015, whilst Doctor Strange is expected to release at some point in 2016.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Lang will be portrayed by Paul Rudd, whilst Michael Douglas will portray Pym. Additionally, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena and Patrick Wilson are all set to feature in the July 17th, 2015 release.

If its still going to be based on the same draft then there is even less reason for wright to have left. Im calling for major changes, and with adam mckay doing re writes? bad ones at that. I have my eye on you Marvel Studios.

"A key Avenger"
So he needs a lot of connection to the Avengers, something Wright didn't have to do 8 years before.

Kevin Feige, by his interviews, understands what the MCU needs. He understands that they have to introduce new characters and I wouldn't be surprised if he's a fanboy. Since he understands that the MCU needs to grow, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a Black Panther Film, wasp, Inhumans, etc. what a great time to be a fan of comic books right now!

WHY must they persist to frick with the source material.

Pym was a founding Avenger, that didn't happen, fine. Pym is not the sole creator of Ultron, fine. But don't make him a supporting character in his own movie, they are destroying so much storytelling and any chance of seeing all the dynamics between Hank, Jan, the Avengers, his inventions and him reluctantly being a superhero.

They could have easily created an Ant-man movie starring Hank Pym and Janet, setting up Ultron and tied in with the Avengers:AOU movie.

With all the time and money they have it's embarrassing that they can't produce a movie on par with Avengers:EMH. That was a fantastic show which translated all the dynamics and characters beautifully, had they done something similar with the characters i dare to say that it could have been as successful as Iron Man.

Iron Man (1) definately was [on par], and so was CA:TWS, both the least goofy and most comic accurate. The former still being the strongest entry to the MCU to this date.

I suppose we have Wright to thank for this disaster, and Feige for allowing it.

(PS. Been reading CBM for years, just registered)

batmaniac- i kind of assumed he would end up doing both after all ant man is giant man i know they are not using the same ant man (lang instead of Pym) but i was kinda of hoping he would grow as well. i think it would be cooler to see him do both.

Wait, so does this mean Pym will have been the creator of Ultron?

Not yet, at least.

@DaVinci, *spoiler* i've read that Pym plays some part in his creation, but Whedon has alluded that it's a team effort. You should read Wardell's tweets, after all the things he wrote about CA:TWS turned out to be true i've started to believe his others are too.

@BM, thanks.

I really hope this means we now have a possibility of seeing Ghost Rider within the next 10 years.

That's nice to hear. I'm trying to stay away from AOU spoilers though, so I guess my question could have been answered already. Thanks.

So, they're going to start shooting in August, and expect to release by July next year? WHAT? This isn't some small film, they're making a self proclaimed "action and heist" film. I doubt they're going to make that July date.

batmaniac- yeah i know that, just wouldn't him growing as well as shrinking be more appealing to the general audience, i told my friend about ant man and until i mentioned his other names and ability to grow in size as well he though it was stupid. he still thought it was stupid after i told him but he though it was a bit more interesting.
