More From Edgar Wright On Ant-Man!

The director talks about getting back to work on the script but wont reveal when exactly Ant-Man will make his way onto the big screen...

"I can’t do two things at once, so now that 'Scott Pilgrim' is finished I will return to doing another draft of that one," Wright told MTV News.

The director revealed that there is no strict timetable for the film and right now coming up with a good script is far more important, "Because that character isn't one of their biggest properties, it’s not like a tentpole deadline. It’s more like me and Kevin Feige saying, 'Let's make a really good script.' We've always agreed on that — 'Lets make a good script that works, that’s all about a great genre film, and that isn’t necessarily relying on anything else.'"

"It should be a great genre film, so that’s why I did a first draft," he said.

However, he couldnt reveal any more about the proposed movie plans or Ant-Man's involvement with The Avengers, "I cannot confirm or deny anything," he laughed. "I’ll get killed. ... It's snipers, they’ll kill me!"

"Make sure you put that in there," he joked. "The snipers will kill me."

Huh... quite interesting. Man I'm loving how everyone has the ball rolling. But what gets me is, I don't think this flick will be put out before the summer of 2012, so... I wonder if HIS Ant-Man will be the same as The Avengers...

I think he's a great fit for the Ant-Man character. It'll be interesting to see how or if he's included with the Avengers.

Hey whats gonna be out first??

Becoz IF it is ANT-MAN, he can get ANT-MAN out the way with here and go onto GIANT MAN in the AVENGERS!!

Anil Ricky I here you but what bothers me most is Antman's powers and the shrinkage thing. How do you make that look good. Hulk rips out of his clothes, Iron Man's got cool gadgets and a reactor in his chest, Cap is the perfect human and Thor is a god. So how do you make Antman stack up to those guys or even Hawkeye on a physical level?

If Catwoman and Electra can get their own movies, so can Ant-man. Although those movies sucked badly, I think Ant-man can actually work. We've all seen "Honey I Srunk the Kids" and "Innerspace" and if they can use the same concept, but with a more serious tone and with a superhero theme, I'd definitely go watch it. Also, I'm I the only one who now thinks Ant-man is definitely going to be in the Avengers movie?

They can show a lot of stuff: that he may be working for the S.H.I.E.L.D,that he already knew Stark, being both scientists, they can introduce a first peaceful version of Ultron, or/and Vision lying inert in the lab while Pym tries to fix it. I still can't think about what villain to use but, whoever he is, at the end of the film he could also discover how to increase his size and fight him as a giant. If they don't connect it to nothing it's almost a waste

Mr. Fixit makes a good point. The Pym particles can give him the ability to grow to giant size as well. But that would make for the title "Ant-man" a bit strange for the average viewers. Maybe then can save that part for the Avengers...

I don't think that anyone should get their hopes up for this film to be made at all. I think that he will make his appearance in The Avengers and then Kevin will look at the reception of the character and decide if they should give him his own film, or not. "Avengers Origins: Ant Man"

McLovin - 2/11/2010, 12:42 PM
LOL! "Avengers Origins: Ant-man" is pretty funny! Let's hope that they don't destroy the character like they did Wolverine though ...

This movie i don't think should be made!
Just put Hank and Jan in The Avengers!

Hank can grow or shrink so just making
him Ant-man is kinda silly! It sounds
something like, "Honey I Shrunk The Kids!
Does anybody want that kind of an Ant-man
movie! I sure wouldn't!
Hank is a serious scientist who created
one of the most deadly bad guys ever in
Avenger history! ULTRON!

Thanks guys!

Personally, I'd like to see the movie focus on the Ant Lang/Ant-Man storyline with Hank Pym more involved! Whatever though - any CBM made by Marvel Studios is good news to me!

DDD - I made mention of "Shrunk the Kids" only because it gave us a different perspective. One of how truly dangerous our world would be if we were the size of insects. Not that I want to see 2 hrs of Ant-man trying to survive in someone's back yard. I think it's worth a shot. What the worst that can happen? It sucks and there are no more Ant-man movies? I think we have nothing to loose here.

Edgar my dear man, the snipers are not snipers, it just one man. Marvel's secret sharpshooting weapon aka. Hawkeye!

This is sweet. It could be nice if they could squeeze in Ant-man before Avengers, but then again I don't want Marvel to strain themselves, so after Avengers is fine with me too! : )
jjmeylar
jjmeylar - 2/11/2010, 1:57 PM
@Misterfixit I agree.

Now, I think that he should be in The Avengers because they should have Ultron in the 2nd one((and maybe The Vision, as well)). That is if they have a 2nd one.

JoshWilding - 2/11/2010, 2:06 PM
lyky: Yeah, I'd actually be happy to see The Avengers delayed by a few months if an Ant-Man movie meant they could set up Pym and Janet ready for The Avengers! :)

To have The Avengers on the big screen, you must have the original five (Ironman, Hulk, Thor, The Wasp, AND Ant-man), then bring in Captain America, the Sub-mariner, Hawkeye, and maybe Black Widow.
@JoshW- I totally agree. That way we can see both in a solo project (on the BIG or small screen), then have Ant-man/Giant-man for the Avengers.

"If Catwoman and Electra can get their own movies, so can Ant-man."

Difference is, both of those characters are great on the page and they still [frick]ed up the movies, Ant Man sucks in the comics too! haha..I hate the little [foo foo].

haha, was that in The Ultimates 2 or 3? Don't remember it. Anyway, the rack on Wasp. I don't mind Pym as a character too much..in fact Ultimate Pym is a great love to hate dude..but Ant Man ..just, why??
McLovin
McLovin - 2/11/2010, 5:31 PM
That's a good point Ror. Electra and Catwoman are great on paper (and in my dreamzzzz), but Hollywood has struggled to make a good female character work (personally I hated both Tomb Raider movies) and they still gave it a shot. Jennifer Gardner is super hot, but lacked the menacing look of a cold blooded killer and the idea of disassociating Catwoman from the rest of the Batman U. was just dumb. But the reason I used those characters as an example is because (like Ant-man), there was not exactly an uproar about seeing them in their own movies. We were happy to have them in DD or Batman. Still, someone figured they could take a chance on them. I think they could have been great movies if they had stuck to the source material, but ultimately, they didn't and as such, they failed. I don't think Ant-man is a must, but if they want to make it, then why not? There is an Avengers movie in the works and he would tie into to nicely (and it seems like one way or another, he may pop up in Avengers anyway). I say what do we have to loose? If it stinks, no more Ant-man. If it does well, maybe other characters (possibly some that you like) would get their shot.

ASSASSIN666 - 2/11/2010, 8:46 PM
Real simple Marvel got lucky taking a B-list hero like Iron Man and turning him in to an A-list movie franchise. Ant man is a third rate hero who would only serve as a back burner role for the Avengers. A movie about Ant Man is about as useful as a Magneto movie. Marvel needs to concentrate on their recent f**k ups like Spiderman, and Fantastic Four. Not all secondary heroes are going to get to play the big solo in the concert. Iron Man was becoming a massive deal in the comics, his chance to shine was inevitable for the movies.

@Ass ass in 666
I think marvel is doing Ant-man because : 1. He's in the avengers(maybe, snipers !!) 2.He is a third rate hero.
Fans wont mind any changes to a 3rd rate hero, a good example would be Blade, nobody, except for the fanboys, even knew it was a comic book, and it was a great movie, not so much in iron man level quality, but still...
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 2/12/2010, 9:58 AM
Iron Man is not third rate or b class and never has been.
