AQUAMAN Sailed To A Massive $2.9 Million At Paid Amazon Preview Screenings This Weekend

This weekend, Amazon Prime members were able to see Aquaman early and the DC Comics adaptation managed to score nearly $3 million. What does that mean for its chances of box office success this weekend?

Aquaman has already earned a whopping $261 million overseas but Amazon Prime members were able to see the movie early this weekend. On Saturday evening, it was shown at roughly 1,225 theaters across North America and ended up earning a whopping $2.9 million as a result.

That figure easily beats Amazon's previous sneak peek screenings, including Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($1.86 million). Amazingly, this $2.9 million means Aquaman entered the top #10 - in tenth place - just under a week before it's actually set to be released!

Paid previews like this are a great way for studios to gauge interest in upcoming releases and movies this has happened with before have all ended up exceeding expectations during opening weekend. When it comes to Aquaman, that's expected to top the likes of Bumblebee, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Mary Poppins Returns next weekend regardless.

Are you excited to see Jason Momoa suit up as the King of Atlantis or did you catch an early screening this weekend? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Imagine the spike in prime subscriptions if they did this for End game.

@TheAquaClunge - well they do offer a free 30 days, so I'd be curious how many people don't just do that and then cancel before the end of the promotion.

The movie will do plenty well stateside. The Christmas-day money alone will bring in some hefty bucks.

I don’t know where this billion stuff is coming from but I think
$800-something million is equal parts impressive and reasonable.

@MarvelDCAllDay - $800M seems like a low number given the success in China ($189 in 10 days). $1B is still a bit of a stretch but I can see it being closer to $1B then $800M.

Really not sure when I'll be seeing Aquaman. Probably not this year. But I definitely want to catch it in cinemas.
