Paul Bettany Teases AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON's Vision Mystery

"[Details on the Vision are] a secret I've kept for about three years, which is really hard, especially with three kids. I'm contractually obliged not to talk about it."

On the surface, it appears that Paul Bettany's J.A.R.V.I.S. somehow becomes The Vision in The Avengers sequel.  This would be a significant departure from the The Vision's origin according to  Marvel Comics lore but Marvel Studios has already proven that they're not afraid to tweak origin stories to fit the larger scheme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.   Ten-months after the public announcement, Paul Bettany still can't talk about playing The Vision in Joss Whedon's Avengers; Age of Ultron.  "It's still a secret. I think all will be revealed very shortly.  It's a secret I've kept for about three years, which is really hard, especially with three kids. I'm contractually obliged not to talk about it.  J.A.R.V.I.S will be there and so will The Vision. But I simply can't tell you any more."

Does Bettany's comments debunk the theory that J.A.R.V.I.S. becomes Vision? Is Bettany implying that J.A.R.V.I.S. and The Vision are going to exist separately in the film?

Vision creates himself, JARVIS does to be specific. Vision will also be using the Mind Gem in the film, my prediction at least.

Vision is my most anticipated character of the MCU.

Can't wait for more.

How long have Marvel been planning all this? Paul Bettany knew he was going to be the Vision before the Avengers even came out, so how much do we not know about the MCU which has already been planned? Marvel have some intense security.

It's not that wild of a departure of his origin. Just changed the brain waves of Jarvis from Simon Williams and still use the Human Torches body (in the MCU he's the Synthetic Man)

I'd guess that JARVIS will be there for the first act of the movie, before whatever transformation causes him to become Vision. Hence Bettany's comment that both will appear in the film.

But seriously, the biggest takeaway from this is that he's known for 3 freaking years. Marvel is the definition of long-term planning.

Paul Bettany/JARVIS as Vision >>>>>> Clark Gregg/Agent Coulson as Vision

I think Vision will represent the mental evolution of JARVIS' artificial intelligence to higher form of sentience.

Absolutely loving all the advanced planning done by Marvel. Disaster comes from throwing everything together haphazardly for a quick buck (looks at wb/dc), but Marvel has a well thought out, clear and concise roadmap to successful domination. And it's working. Kudos.

Ultron creates the vision.. After the avengers battle him and are nearly beaten Jarvis hacks into his 'brain' and takes over.. Sort of.

That's my very loose prediction.

Hahaha I remember those rumors. Not too long ago, EVERYBODY was 100% convinced Coulson would become Vision...I think we can all agree this is much better.

LOL. The people predicting failure for Antman were the same people predicting failure for GOTG.

You would think they would've been humbled, learned their lesson, and STFU but I guess they will have to be proven wrong again to recognize not to count their chickens before they're hatched.

I signed a Marvel NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) when i was visiting the set of Frostbite (Captain America: The First Avenger) at Shepperton Studios - I can confirm they are a couple of A4 pages long and you have to sign in two places, the second of which has some kind of strange rune and mentions your first-born.

Something about a soul too, but who reads all the terms and conditions anyhow?.....

*shrugs*

Lol.

Sometimes I'm not sure when people are serious or not. Kinda scary when they are serious.

At least people like you and a few others have legit reasons to why you guys criticize stuff. One of the few reasons I like reading what you guys have to say, even when I disagree.

@FalconSpeed

Apparently everyones hopping on a sinking ship eh… Because I hear many actors and actresses wanting to do Marvel studios films… Not DC/WB, Sony or Fox… So I guess all of those band wagon people know nothing…

You better hope Snyder produces a master piece with BatvsSupe, otherwise suicide rate of butthurt DCfanboys will go way up again.
MileHighRonin
MileHighRonin - 12/15/2014, 9:28 AM
@MercSoul why not? Let me guess you don't think Loki's Scepter is the Mind Gem? Vision apparently shows Visions of the past, how? Were the events he takes them to recorded? and he is simply pulling the file up. Or is he taking the event from someone's head? If it is from someone's mind, how is he able to find it and show it to others? I don't remember him having a form of telepathy in the comics, how does he do it? The Mind Gem can be used that way.

So before you make ignorant comments about individuals maybe you should ask why, instead of talking sh!t right away.
