Well, it appears as if Disney (and fans of the X-Men and Fantastic Four) can breathe easy because Comcast has seemingly given up on trying to purchase 21st Century Fox. However, with good news comes bad and the company is instead bidding on one of the key components of the Disney/Fox deal. That is European satellite TV provider Sky, an asset they're willing to pay a whopping $31 billion for.
Fox owns 39% of Sky and that stake was included in the $52.4 billion bid made by Disney for the company. Why is that worth so much? Because Fox is currently in the process of obtaining the other 61%, ultimately making Disney the sole owners of the company. If Comcast is able to buy Sky, though, that could lead to the Disney/Fox deal going back to the drawing board and starting from scratch.
Fox, of course, could increase its bid for Sky or Disney could look at purchasing it separately. However, seeing as Fox only had 39% of Sky when the deal went through (and there was no guarantee regulators would allow them to buy the rest), things could go through exactly as planned. Either way, as of right now, the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters are still on course to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that's definitely something to get excited about. What do you guys think about this news?
