Hugh Jackman Talks Taylor Lautner And The Avengers!

The actor jokingly talks about Lautner playing Wolverine in X-Men First Class and whether he'd like a role in The Avengers...

In a slightly bizarre interview with E! Online's Marc Malkin, the actor who's played Wolverine four times was asked whether he thinks Taylor Lautner (who was recently rumored to be up for a role in Matthew Vaughn's upcoming X-Men: First Class) should play a "teenage Wolverine."

"My only question is," said Jackman, "can he grow mutton chops?"

"Actually, I think people would probably prefer him as a hairless Wolverine than a rather hairy-chested version. Certainly about a billion young girls would!"

And if you needed further proof that it's not a great idea for someone who's never read a comic book (a "teenage Wolverine" in First Class!?) to ask these sort of things, the actor was then quizzed about whether there's a chance Wolverine will appear in The Avengers in 2012: "I haven't gotten any phone calls yet. But you never know. He could but you never know if someone else could have been called to play Wolverine."

Wolvie has been an Avenger..many times! Anyway just because he may not have been aware of the original team of Avengers, doesn't mean he should never have played Wolverine! One thing has nothing to do with the other. Also, he was frakkin awesome in the role!

Also, Lautner will never be cast as Wolverine. If that happened the world would be swallowed up in a fiery chasm of death and destruction because the Gods will have lost faith in the reasoning and sanity of mankind.

at most he should get a cameo in Captain America,
i would like him to avoid being the Avengers.

WHy should Lautner play a young Wolverine if Wolverine hardly ages. It makes no sense.

ROR: As I was writing this I somehow completely forgot that Wolverine is indeed a current member of The Avengers! (even though I was actually rereading the latest New Avengers #1 the other day, lol!) Oh, and I meant the interviewer has probably never read a comic book, not Jackman, who I agree was an awesome Wolverine! I mean, a "teenage Wolverine"!?! What the hell is this guy on? :P

@flames809 i think JoshW is talking about the person taking the interview. He clearly doesnt know anything about the comics and hence asking hugh if he will be in the avengers :D

Ah sorry, I misunderstood ya! Yeah the interviewer seems clueless, but in fairness, he is only commenting on rumors which have surfaced so I hope to God someone at Fox realized their silliness and puts an end to em pronto.

@RorMachine - you pretty much nailed it down. Maybe the Mayans knew this was going to happen. When is this movie supposed to come out?

ROR: No worries - when I had a read of the article, I can see how it could have easily been interpreted that way so I've edited it a little now! I'm a fussy bastard when it comes to reading an interview where it's clear the guy doing it hasnt got a clue though, lol! It's like when I read Spiderman instead of Spider-Man in news articles or on TV...yeah, I know I probably need to get a life! ;D I just hope no one from Fox actually read this because they'd probably think that a "teenage Wolverine" is a great idea!

@Tabboo.. NO! No, you take that outside. NO Lautner in X-men, take him out of range of another franchise to ruin.

I still want Christian Kane to play Wolvie

Here's why this interviewer is ignorant: A. Wolverine would not be a teenager during First Class. Anyone who has seen the first X-men movie or Wolverine should know that. B. Wolverine and the rest of the film X-men characters are owned by 20th century Fox so they can't cross over with any of these Marvel cinematic universe characters. (not officially at least) It's not a mattter of can Wolverine be an Avenger in the story. Would it kill these people to do just a little bit of research before asking questions.

Wrong on so many levels!

1 - The whole point of this movie is to carry on FOX's shit-fest of an X-Men universe. In X1 Wolverine met Charles and the team for what is clearly the first time (no memory loss can cover it). So he can't be in the movie without it being a reboot, if that's the case, why not do a proper reboot with the characters everyone knows?

2 - If they are going along with this, Wolverine would be a fully grown man at the time, NOT a teenager!

3 - Well I don't need a "3" because my "1" & "2" were so god damn good!

Lautner? Teenage Wolvie? Are these people on something? Those twilight kids need to stay away from CBMS.

@Taboo. I don't blame teh Twilight fiasco on him, but he didn't help anything. That franchise was doomed anyway though.

Um................even though they never seem to keep with continuity in the "X-Men" films, I doubt that they'd have Wolverine in there. Also: I doubt that Fox would let Wolverine cameo in "Captain America" or be an Avenger...unless they got millions of dollars. Wolverine shouldn't be an Avenger, though I'd love to see him cameo in "Captain America"............still like NO chance of that, though, as I said.

Ok, its admission time. I just have to be honest about this. I watched Eclipse and it didn't suck too badly! I mean it was still not a good movie, but its by FAR the best of the 3, not that thats saying much. Bottom line is that if the first one was as watchable as Eclipse, by now they may have had a decent franchise on their hands. Of course thats a big IF. They would probably still suffer because of the dreadful ineptitude of their leading cast.
GoGoGadgetsBruh
GoGoGadgetsBruh - 7/15/2010, 8:53 AM
hey Lautner CAN grow hair just watch Twilight Eclipse where he had a pedo-looking stache :P which made him look a little funny
I could see him as Daken (even though Daken's half Japanese)
the kid's not that good of an actor (but is getting better)
he's definitely overpaid and would cost too much for them to put him in First Class anyways :P

@tea...thanks ;)
@ror...yeah i watched it too and it was def better than the first 2. Wasn't expecting much...but Kirsten Stewart did not disappoint...she looked constipated the entire movie.

@ROR with all due respect, I"m pretty sure that Hollywood considers it about as good of a franchise as they could ask for. and your comment gives me hope. My wife is a Twilight freak and i know that movie will be a part of my very near future, maybe i won't have to self medicate quite as much before watching this one :0)

I think it would be awesome to see Hugh in Captain America. But i think FOX owns the right to Wolverine's character, so that probably won't fly.

But also, personally I don't think Wolverine should be in it.

Lautner could play Morph and they could kill Morph in the first ten minutes of the movie. Only he would be completely the opposite of the character.

Morph has a normal dull and plain exterior.
Taylor has a normal dull and plain acting ability.

Uh... Doesn't First Class take place after X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Doesn't that mean Jackman would still be Wolverine considering he played him since WWII to present day?

Moreso: Doesn't First Class take place AFTER WWII?

ARE YOU FCUKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Taylor Lautner as Wolverine?!?!?!?!?!?

That's it. I'm done with FOX for life.

I know many people go on these rants and talk out of their ass, but this time I mean it. They pick this teenybopper douchebag and ruin one of my favorite characters, NAY! ONE OF COMICS GREATEST CHARACTERS and I will never watch any CBM done by FOX again.

That's it. I'm done.
