NEWSARAMA had the good fortune to sit down and speak with Marvel's CCO Joe Quesada at C2E2 last week in Chicago. In an exclusive video interview Joe Q surprisingly, had quite a bit to say about Marvel's upcoming slate of movies. I transcribed the majority of the interview for you below.

On THOR...

From a visual standpoint, it's really exciting but in the hands of Kenneth Branagh and the entire cast, it's a pretty phenomenal take on the character. I think comic fans kind of have an idea of what this movie is going to be like but they really don't. They're going to be in for an experience thats unique. I think for the people that don't know who THOR is, even if you know the mythology, you're not going to get, I think, what you're going to expect. It's going to be radical and amazing.

On Captain America:The First Avenger..



You know what? Right now it's very tough to describe it. I just saw the first directors cut of Captain America about a week and a half ago. There's a very visual and visceral difference in the way that the movies are shot. There is a richness to both but they're very, very different tonally. And of course cap starts out as a period piece where as THOR is more of a fantastical piece although both are grounded very much in the real world. I think fans will see it and feel it when they see it on screen. Both of these are really going to be outstanding with amazing performances, great special effects. The Marvels characters come to life and for all of us who have been reading these since we were yay high, it's pretty astounding and an absolute thrill to sit there in theater and see these characters in 3D and flesh and blood.

On The Avengers..

The Avengers has started filming, right?

Yes. Yes it has.

Do you feel, without getting into specifics, that it really is going to be this culmination? That it is going to top everything?

Yes, I mean again, look at the cast. Just starting with the cast, it's like a rock concert. It's unbelievable, even in San Diego when they brought them all up on stage. You got to see all these amazing actors on stage. If you didn't get chills up your spine, you have no pulse. Basically, get yourself a casket and go home. And then you have Joss Whedon at the wheel. I've seen the screenplay, it's amazing. I've seen what we're going to do. I've seen designs, they're out of this world. It's going to be the quintessential superhero movie. I hesitate to say more but we're really, really, excited about it.

i just hope hawkeye gets his costume and cap gets an updated look thats more accurate to his costume in the comics

Hey, what've people got against Joey Q? Call yourself fanboys? Weren't you there when Marvel nearly went bankrupt, but got bailed out by Toybiz at the last minute (as in no more Marvel shared universe ever) and then this guy, that you all seem to dislike, came along in the ashes of a Marvel in need of a little TLC and completely and radically revitilised Marvel?!! Marvel would not be where it is today, without this guy. Nobody did more for the company since Stan Lee. From when he started with the Kevin Smith Daredevil comeback to when he left was a second golden age (or a second silver age if you will) for Marvel. He's a legend. Show some respect.

@DukeAcureds, to be fair he has done some things that have upset fans (rightfully so in some cases). That in mind, you're spot on. The company was a dire straights, and I think right now they're doing some incredible stuff. Well said man, well said.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly has Joe Q. done to upset so many people? Sorry, this might be a stupid question, but I'm not as familiar with his role in the Marvel company as many of you probably are.

I TRUST IN THESE GUYS TO HONOR MARVEL SOURCE MATERIAL OR FIGHT TO KEEP THE THING THAT WE AS FANS LOOK FORWARD TO IN A LIVE ACTION MOVIE..AS FAR AS HATING GOES, ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN AND ARE DOING IT BETTER THAN THIS GUY NOW REALLY HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY SOMETHING..

@ckirk8, hes the editor in chief, which means he oversees all the big picture stuff. The thing that upset the most people was a story called "One more day", where spiderman's marriage was dissolved after a deal with the devil (a few other things happened there). I didnt read spidey at the time, so i cant comment too much there, but I will say that it the quality of the comic has really increased recently.

But even if you take into account his faults, he ushered in some great changes, such as the inclusion of the ultimate universe, new takes on Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Daredevil as well as a rebirth of the Avengers.

I'm not fond of allot of the things he has done "in"comics, especially One More Day, but it's hard to deny that he has helped Marvel out of a hole. Besides, the point of the article is that THE AVENGERS HAS STARTED FILMING!

Darth: I have had the sneaking suspicion since it was announced that Cap's film would be bookended in the present that what we will get is Cap in the beginning, think back to how it all got started and then bouncing back to the present on his way to a mission with The Avengers around him. Just a thought.

wait what they started shooting already and no one knew about it, thats surprising. Well looks like we might actually get something for comic con. Kinda surprised they started this early. Hope we get set pic, wait nah I actually would be best if we don't get set pics because a lot of people on this site seem to base there judgement about movie by set pics.

@Xenix - I'm glad you're enjoying "Big Time", but look what led up to it. Not including the infamous deal with Mephisto that cost us the Spider-Marriage, we got two implied character rapes, Spidey and Black Cat being friends with benefits by doing the nasty while keeping their masks on, the Lizard eating his own son, Doc Ock dying and being confined to a metal diaper suit, and Spider-Man stupidly losing his spider-sense and reminding us he lost it on every other page since it happened.

Back to the topic at hand, I'm glad "The Avengers" has started filming, but since the stars report to the set in April, I'm sure what they're filming is all probably second-unit stuff or something not as exciting... yet. Then again, you never know.
