JOSS WHEDON On A Potential FIREFLY Return

JOSS WHEDON On A Potential FIREFLY Return

Sure, he's busy with The Avengers sequel and other Marvel Cinematic Universe properties but Capt. Mal Reynolds, Zoe and the rest of the Firefly crew will always have a special place in Joss Whedon's heart. The director says he'd love to return to that world after Avengers 2.

Speaking to the Tornoto Sun, the director stated that he'll never let hopes of a Firefly resurrection die. "I'll never really accept it," Whedon said. "And I always, in the back of my head, think, 'What if I could get the old gang back together?'"

"Well, you know, it's something I would love to do," Whedon said in regards to getting the Firefly cast back together. "When I made Serenity, I said here's one thing I'll never do again -- a movie based on something that some people know about and some people don't, with tons of characters who all know each other and who you have to introduce. And then my second movie was The Avengers."

"Part of me is like, 'God, it would be great when I finish Avengers 2 to do that,' " Whedon said in regards to revisiting the Firefly universe. I think most people would prefer that Whedon stuck around the MCU beyond Avengers 2, maybe for life in a quasi-George Lucas capacity. Barring an unlikely disaster with the second cinematic outing for Earth's Mightiest Heroes, I'm inclined to believe that Marvel feels the same way. But maybe Whedon will just need a little break after all the superhero theatrics and will look to something else, and maybe it will be a certain renegade spaceship crew.

"I suspect very strongly that after Avengers 2 the next thing I do will be a one-man show. Possibly one monkey."

There's one problem, though: One of the show's principle actors is currently attached to another show and I don't think Castle is going off the air any time soon.

I love Firefly, an injustice to humanity that show got canceled. And yet shows like Jershey Shore and Teen Mom gets five or more seasons.

I just finished rewatching Firefly and Serenity, and it definitely deserves another outing. A movie with a little more of the fun that made the show special. The movie was great, and I think Joss got the blend right with Avengers. The only problem with Serenity was that he needed to wrap up the plot of Firefly in a two hour movie. It's still an open universe plot wise, so he still has a lot of stories to tell.

Or just bring back the show. Maybe ABC could be the place for a relaunch since he'll be most likely producing Avengers for that network.

After Avengers, this much be likely.

However, how would they deal with the death of the pilot (leaf on the wind) guy?

Whedon + FOX = Cancelled. Whedon + ABC = ? I just watched Dollhouse - both seasons in a few days. Aside from a few typical broadcast network flaws, Dollhouse was as brilliant - if not more so - than Firefly. I still favor Firefly and think there are plenty of stories to tell in that universe - but since Fox owns it I doubt ABC could ever give it a shot. FOX has the balls to greenlight amazing shows that don't have mass appeal, but looses the nerve to give them a chance to build an audience. FOX - you are the slutty tease of TV Networks

In a way... his past accomplishments/projects that ended too soon, engage my inner Whedon, more so than they did when I was bitter that they ended. Allow me to explain... I've known about this man for well over 10 years now and have been a true fan of everything he has put out and devoted time to know him as a director/producer/creator. Each time a new show has come out, I have sat and watched, payed attention... devoted time. Each time they ended I was soooo bitter about the lack of patience displayed by each network. When he hit big with Avengers I could not help but grin and feel a sense of accomplishment that only a select few can probably really share... that said... these past projects are no longer "in vain". With his success this past year, all of his past projects are talked about more and there have been more fans to see what they hadn't seen before... it's special. As much as I would like to see the firefly take flight again... or Angel go all Angellous on Connor, or Echo become this matrix-esque super-god... they're all better left where they were. Forever etched in the memories of the truly devoted. I welcome S.H.I.E.L.D with open arms... I hope that he can tell more stories like the ones he told in the past and that should be enough. I do, of course, want to see NPH singing show tunes again, as soon as possible, but I also understand these things happen in time. Plus, he has a lot of the old familiar faces coming back in other projects... I look forward to that.

Absolutely LOVE FireFly & Serenity.

Marvel / Disney should just make FireFly one of their new properties (much like acquiring Star Wars) & let Wheddon have sometime to work on it, that way, the whole we scratch your back & you scratch ours works.

Let him do FireFly for ABC & he can still stick around to do all the Avengers / Marvel stuff as well, WIN / WIN for everybody & all the franchises.
