Robert Downey Jr On The Avengers & John Favreau's Iron Man 3 Departure

Robert Downey Jr On The Avengers & John Favreau's Iron Man 3 Departure

No story talk I'm afraid, but hear what Tony Stark himself has to say about director John Favreau leaving the franchise, and he also makes a few more wise cracks about his preparation for The Avengers..

MTV caught up with RDJ on the set of Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows and asked him how preparation is going for The Avengers..

"You grow a moustache and then they do something here [points to chin]. That's how easy it is.

And has he read the script? can he see it living up to everyone's expectations?

It's going to be great, once I tell them what to do."

RDJ indicated to MTV that he still kept in contact with former Iron Man helmer John Favreau, and revealed how he felt about him leaving..

"[Favreau's] up to great stuff with 'Cowboys & Aliens' coming out. He and I just talked a couple weeks ago and we're quite friendly indeed."

"It is weird. I think there's always a closure to everything, this will all come to an end one day, and I think the thing is to just really enjoy it while you have it."

I still have a feeling that he and Favreau fell out over RDJ's insistence that the script be written by the guy who did Tropic Thunder. After all, it was the messy plot that caused the majority of negative feedback the movie recieved! :P

It's a shame that Iron Man 2 wasn't as well received as the 1st one. If only the final Whiplash fight lasted more than 2 seconds... For me that was the biggest problem with both movies - completely weak sauce endings. Also, seeing as how Mickey Rourke's character was more of a combination of Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo wouldn't it have been better if his final suit was at least painted red, instead of the completely forgettable design they came up with?

I'd rather have Favreau then Downey Jr.

Fame has gone back to his head so its only a matter of time until he falls again. A year ago these words would not pass my lips but I think he's gotten a bit big for his boots.

I think Fav walked away because he has balls and integrity I don't see Fav as a hand for hire and I think his departure proves his self respect.

Also I've got a feeling at the back of my head that Disney might need a percentage of the blame. 92% of box office sales, I feel like history repeating itself e.g. Alice in Wonderland and Tim Burton. I do feel Disney put pressure on directors on big titles and the films suffer because of it. I think Iron Man 2 is an example of this.

Fav did not f**k Iron Man 2 its Marvel Studio trying to hard and RDJ who wanted Justin Theroux to write the script for Iron Man 2.

Your plain idiotic if you would choose favreau over downey...People saw the film mostly for RDJ's performance not for favreau

RDJ is a sarcastic [foo foo]... not complaining I think that is awesome, he is one of my favourite actors, if any other American played Sherlock I don't think I would have been down, (unless it was Charlie Sheen because I am loving that guy atm) but he nailed it, and he nailed Stark aswell.

I seriously don't know why people have so much faith in Marvel for these movies, Iron Man was a pretty spot on update to the character, in Hulk they changed things needlessly, it was a decent movie but since when is Hulk's transformation based on his heart-rate? Iron Man 2 was a mess, I enjoyed it when I saw it but I didn't bother buying it or seeing it a second time since. They are rushing production of Captain America and play games with actor and director's fees. I hope these movies are better than I have a feeling they will be.

I'm sure Downey and Favereau had ther differences but I believe Downey when he says they are still friendly. Favereau just did not feel like Iron Man 2 was his movie I'm guessing. It is sad but I think we are for a hell of a ride with Shane Black directing Iron Man 3.

Whoever is saying [frick] downey is a goddamn TOOL. Dont understand how you can say that. Downey is Tony Stark and he's done it fantastically. Im not saying he single handedly made the franchise...of course not. Fav's done a great job too. I mean the first Iron Man killed it, i mean ball out the park shizz.

But with Iron man 2, i have to say i was expecting so much and it didnt really hit the mark and im pretty sure RDJ knows this aswell. Thats possibly why they had their differences, IM2 could have been dope but it seemed Fav's tried to put too much in and it felt rushed and too compact. I mean SLJ could have been a lot better in the film as well but it just felt like a shoddy representation of FURY...maybe it was SLJ's fault...maybe it was the lines and the direction?? Who knows.. but either nothing in the film really hit home and i think they need a new direction for the 3rd. I mean think about it..comic book writers and artists change all the time and we get different representations, so why cant this happen in films??

Think about it people...lets get a new take on things. As long as we keep RDJ and the same characters mainly. I for one dont mind if we get different representations.

Yeah this isnt the first time hearing this, RDJ was the problem of IM2 , Fav had to kowtow to RDJ , oh and Disney didnt have control over IM2 they picked up control after it had already been filmed for most parts. Fav was unhappy and left due to the difference of how 2 went down between himself Marvel and RDJ. Also I heard it was also pressure from RDJ to bring in his writers and director for the 3. Thats not saying that RDJ isnt Tony Stark, cause I think he is the character and he plays him well, but that doesnt mean he was right and I think a true fav sequel would have been much better

Elguason, yeah dude, I can't for that either lol. I can't imagine how CA is going to rally this team to basically do what he says and become the unofficial leader/frontman. I don't see Thor being told what to do by Cap, so that will be fun to see, and I can Tony being sarcastic to Thor or Cap and getting socked in the face lol. (Most likely coming from Thor).
