This will be a rather short article compared to the ones I usually write, but I simply can not take it anymore, and I feel I need to get this out there. Multiple people have been questioning what alien race is going to appear in the Avengers movie. One of the number one guesses has been Skrulls. I agree with that theory. However, other people say no to Skrulls and that maybe its the Chitauri from the Ultimate Universe of comics. Does anyone else see anything wrong with that? I know I can not be the only person around here that knows what I'm about to say. I know that this site has more people on it that know their comics, right? Please, someone come forward and reassure me.

Anyway, here is the revelation that so many people do not seem to understand. Ready for it? Here it comes. The Chitauri ARE Skrulls. Holy crow, right?!?!?!?! Let me explain it:

In the Ultimates Volume 1, the story centers around an alien invasion that has been going on since before World War 2. The Chitauri are these alien invaders. The Chitauri are a race from the Lower Fourth Dimension, who, after devouring a victim, can then transform and impersonate that person or thing. They have been hiding on Earth for a very long time and they actually incited Hitler's rise to power and were involved in many things with the Nazis during the war. Very few of the Allied forces even knew about the aliens, but Captain America was involved in many battles with them. The Allies eventually won the war and most of the Chitauri were killed. Most, but not all. Flash-forward to present time where the Ultimates is taking place. SHIELD discovers that the Chitauri are still around and very much active. They have been spending all these years multiplying since the end of WWII. During one scene, Herr Kleiser, the leader of the Chitauri, states that his race are known by many different names throughout the universe. He then goes on to list all of these names, and guess what? Skrull is one of the names the Chitauri are known as.

Now, there are another race of aliens called Skrulls in the Ultimate U, and they are closer in appearance to the 616 versions of Skrulls, however, these Skrulls are not known to be able to shapeshift. These Skrulls do not like being confused with the Chitauri because they claim that the Chitauri are galactic terrorists, and they completely abhor what they stand for. Ultimate Reed Richards made contact with an alternate reality and that is where he spoke with this form of Skrull. The timestream was altered which lead to these events never taking place.

So basically, The Chitauri are the Ultimate Skrulls. Can we please stop acting like the Chitauri are any different than Skrulls now? They are the same race, just different Marvel Universes.

IDk I remember somewhere saying that the chitauri were claiming to be skrulls but were like the lowest form of all the alien races in the ultimate universe or something

due to the mo-cap suits, the chitauri (ultimate skrulls) are more likely to appear because they are not humanoids. so prepare yourselfs for ultimate avengers, haters. the skrulls are human-like so they could be done with make-up...unless it is not aliens but something completely different. don't have high hopes because you might be dissapointed...

Isn't this common knowledge the chitauri are just the ultimate version of the skrulls. and even if it is using Chitauri doesn't mean that this is adaptation of the ultimates or even 616 verse its been pretty clear from the get go that there taking cues from both universes and making there own stories.

Another race called Skrulls, physically resembling the Skrulls of the mainstream Marvel universe appear later (led by the billion year old Skrull Emperor)in the Ultimate Universe; these Skrulls dislike being confused with the Chitauri, whom they call terrorists.These Skrulls were seen only in an alternate timeline in which Reed Richards contacted their world via his teleporter; the events leading to that timeline were altered in Ultimate Fantastic Four #29 so that contact was never made.

@Denn1s, Why does motion capture automatically make it Chitauri? In fact, they only do motion capture for creatures that move and look like humans, at least in the bipedal sense. I may be mistaken, because I don't read the Ultimates, but aren't the Chitauri insect like? If so, I don't see why they would use humans for their motion capture. Anyways, yes, Skrulls COULD be done with makeup (which is the better choice, IMO), but that doesn't mean they will. This COULD have been done with makeup:



But it wasn't, to allow the proportions to be just slightly different that a humans.

i agree, mo-cap suits mimic the form of a human, so they only use them if the thing in the movie is humanoid.

anyway, they never really show what the Chitauri looked like in the comic. The only one you really see in its true form is the one that is dead and deformed, stuck in between its true and human form. So you can't really tell what they actually look like.

yeah, and if you read that issue, you see that that Super Skrull came from a different reality. Not the Ultimate U where the Chitauri and everyone else are from. What now? lol

An Alternate timeline of the Ultimate Universe. NOT and Alterante reality like entirely different universe.

if the timestream is changed, then it can produce all kinds of changes. it can make it so that a certain person was never born, or a person died at a different time, or an entire race never came to be.

my point is that in the Ultimate U, the timeline that we all know, there have never been any classic looking Skrulls, only in an alternate reality, or timeline if that makes you feel better.

The Skrulls weren't "made" in the alternate timeline, right? They were "met" which means they had to have existed beforehand.

true, but the Chitauri are known as Skrulls by many other races in the universe. they aren't just making it up. and in all honesty, the Chitauri, though they may not LOOK like the 616 Skrulls, they definately resemble them in every other way. Their powers, motivations, their planet conquering habits.

The Skrulls you're defending can't even shapeshift. And again, no one even knows what the Chitauri's true form looks like. The only time they showed one, it was all deformed, dead, and stuck between transformations. They don't even know if its the true form they are looking at.

not necessarily, an alternate timeline can create a reality where a race never came to be, or it make it so that a race DOES come to be. there's no way of knowing, because none of the classic looking Skrulls have ever been shown in the normal Ultimate U timeline, only an alternate timeline.

so its all speculation.

Also presumably the Skrulls are part of Fantastic Four franchise so it makes sense they use the Ultimate Skrull names to get round the license.

The Chitauri claimed the name Skrulls long before the other Skrulls were introduced in the Ult Universe. They were originally intended to be the Skrulls and this was later Retconned for whatever dumbass reason.

I have a problem with people saying "it's an amalgamation of both universes."

The MCU is clearly 95% 616 inspired. It's so obvious watching these movies. I mean, Tony Stark isn't a mutant made entirely of brain cells. Thor isn't some anti-war, tree-hugging hippie. Hulk isn't a ravaging murderous monster. And Captain America isn't a dirty cop who likes to get his hands dirty. Saying it's an amalgamation implies that it's a 50/50 cross between both stories. But it clearly isn't.

The Avengers Movie is going that Direction and the connection between the Characters and Shield is Directly pulled from the Ultimate Comics. If this movie is an Alien Invasion then it is clearly strongly influenced by the Ultimate and Tony isn't a Brain Cell mutant WTH... lol

well when you look at it like this, it is kind of an amalgamation.

The characters are being portrayed as 616, but FOR THE MOST PART, the story has been more Ultimate inspired. at least the formation of the Avengers has been.

The Ultimate Iron Man series explains that Tony Stark is a mutant who's entire body consists of neural tissue. That's the cause of his incredible genius.

And yes, SHIELD and the Avengers (even though they aren't called that) being tied together in the same entity is Ultimates inspired. But that doesn't mean shit regarding who the aliens are. I don't recall LOKI ever being involved in the Ultimates story with the Chitauri. So it can go any way. And Marvel Studios has shown great favor in adapting their CLASSIC characters to the big screen.

Also, why would Marvel, with all their ambition, want to adapt the Chitauri to the big screen? The Chitauri are the least popular of the potential aliens they could use. They have virtually NO association with the Marvel brand. And it's a dead end right there. You can't introduce any new characters into the MCU with them. I know I'm a fan of the Atlantians invading, but at least the Skrulls and the Kree expand the MCU. They have a rich mythology. The Chitauri have nothing.

Seriously though, I don't get how just because they're using motion capture, that automatically means they're going with the Chitauri. In the comics, they never show their true form! They're always disguised as humans. And people automatically assume that motion capture means they're going with something REALLY alien-like. But that's not true. Motion capture is ALWAYS used if the computer-generated visual is humanoid in appearance. Look at Hulk and Avatar.

And I don't recall the Chitauri ever using a gun and sword like the one we've seen in the videos.

In restropect, I think it is better to just wait till they actually show a trailer that shows the aliens.

Than we will know the "other" villains in this movie. Either way, its got to be the skrulls or the kree (I pretty much agree with CornDogBurgler on the Chitauri being just a poor man's version of the Skrulls concidering the story and all).
