Further Rumor Suggests That TDKR Will Be Based On "Prey" After All

We have already heard rumors that Christopher Nolan's next and final Batman film will be based on the graphic Novel "Prey", but now Harry Knowles over at AICN reckons that is on the level. Click for the details..

Sure we have heard this one before, but I don't think many people gave it much credence given that the sources for the rumor were sketchy at best. But now we have some more solid info. Harry Knowles reckons the next movie will indeed follow the "Prey" storyline.

From AICN..

It seems that Chris & Jonathan Nolan and that David Goyer have been digging deep for the villain. In fact, Batman first went up against this guy in 1940 in the pages of Detective Comics. The word is, Tom Hardy is playing Dr. Hugo Strange, who has a bit of an obsession surrounding The Batman. Strange how common that seems to be in Gotham. In fact - it seems that Nolan and crew are exploiting that great PREY arc that was written by Doug Moench and illustrated by the great Paul Gulacy and Terry Austin - and ran from September of 1990 to February 1991.

Harry says that for now to treat this as a rumor but not to be Surprised if he's right. I also noticed that in the talk back section he says he was "shown proof, in a manner of speaking". I for one am certainly giving this a bit more attention as Harry's scoops are usually on the money. What do you folks think? Confirm or debunk below.

hmmm, interesting. It would seem having the ultimate copycat as the villain be a little redundant as copycats were dealt with in the previous film with Scarecrow attached to it. But, hmm. Idk. Nolan's been able to pull off a lot so, I'll just wait and see!

@Ror: Nice find man! Very interesting stuff to think about.

I am not a hardcore CMB-fan, so I never heard of Strange before (sorry guys). Since his name surfaced the net as a rumor for this flick now, I googled his a$$ and I must say I'm looking forward to this villain; especially IF Hardy is going to portay him. I'm a big fan of Hardy. I think this final chapter will be epic.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Seems plausible. Nolan's the kind of artsy-fart that would go for one of Batman's more obscure foes directly after tackling his most iconic. Hugo Strange would definitely be cool to see on the big screen. At least we'll be seeing an interesting choice and not a rehash of any previously used rogues if this turns out to be true.

At least it's not the Riddler, right Ror! :)

Definitely! Although I would have preferred a different character to Strange. I'm sure it will be great, but I just like a lot of other villains more. Also, even if thsi is true, don't expect a direct adaptation of Prey in any way shape or form. I'm sure there will be a fresh spin put on much of it.

I would have to agree about there being cooler villains to choose from, but since Nolan has had at least two in both of his previous movies, maybe we'll get to see more of a fan-favorite in the secondary rogue role.

I use to want Riddler but Im kinda happy that Strange is in it as I wanna see a new villain on screen and he is pretty similar to Riddler ie. Finding out Batmans Identity

Why not? Could work definitely? Tom Hardy as Prof. Strange would be great villain!:) Just needs two more villains! One if Max Cort is going to be a villain in the movie too like he is in the Prey!
Talia Al Ghul and Bane or Black Mask are my choices as the other two villains!:)
Maybe Rupert Thorne as the side villain

if it is based on prey then hardy could be playing the cop that gets brainwashed in to becoming a vigilante to bring out batman from hiding,

Interesting.
Ryden
Ryden - 12/4/2010, 5:32 AM
Hardy would make an excellent Hugo Strange. It'll be cool because he would wear his own bat-suit wouldn't he? And Hardy would look far better in that suit than Bale ever could.
Ibz
Ibz - 12/4/2010, 5:37 AM
but hardy could easily be playing max cort

This is believable because Nolan already set precedent with people dressed as batman in the second movie...he already has shown Batman Worship!!!

@LEEE777

Deadshot won't be in it dude. Prepare yourself for disappointment!

I'm okay with Hugo Strange. Nolan will develop a very interesting story from the 'Prey' premise. :)

This could be interesting. I'm guessing he wouldn't be the only of course. Although I'd still prefer Hush or Killer Croc.

You posted the first rumor Ager, it came from a pretty sketchy source with no evidence to back it. Looks like it might have been legit now, but we couldn't post without a credible source behind it.

Hugo will be 1 of 2 villains. There is still room for more villains if Hugo is indeed a villain.

Could someone provide a quick summation of the "Prey" Storyline...early Batman wasn't something I followed in the comics closely enough growing up...which is my bad I know...
phoe1
phoe1 - 12/4/2010, 9:47 AM
if its based on PREY its also very likely to dive into the follow up material entitled TERROR, which would be much better since catwoman's role in PREY is quite 2dimensional and boring. only in TERROR she rises from eyecandy to a helper of the bat and there is some more interesting chemistry between her and the dark knight...

AlexDeLarge87
AlexDeLarge87 - 12/4/2010, 10:19 AM
Any of these characters works for me.
Hugo Strange, Talia Al Ghul, Bane, Black Mask, Max Cort, Deadshot, Anarky (adult version), Red Hood, David Cain, Firefly or Killer Croc
BFGLOOM
BFGLOOM - 12/4/2010, 10:21 AM
If this on going rumor has any truth to it I think Hardy will be playing Max Cort. He's the guy who does the fighting while Hugo Strange controls from the background. Hardy's too young for Strange.
DoubleW
DoubleW - 12/4/2010, 10:27 AM
Not all that familiar with the "Prey" storyline, but what I've read from you guys makes it sound pretty cool. I just don't want Killer Croc anywhere near this movie. He's TOO similar to the Lizard. With the Spidey reboot, it would be villian overkill. At the very least it'd be a rush to see who could get their movie out first. Nobody wants to see the same villian twice.
VanHalen
VanHalen - 12/4/2010, 10:32 AM
This sounds... interesting. I'm not a big Comic Bookee, I just grew up on the cartoons, and previous films. I have never heard of Dr. Strange, but the idea sounds cool. Christopher is a genious, and this will work. Just look at Inception. His movies are getting bigger and bigger, and more and more interesting. Exciting news. Maybe Hardy'll play a different villan tho...?
