TDKR: Christian Bale And Gary Oldman Issue Statements About The Shooting In Colorado

Following the touching statement released by The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan last night, stars Christian Bale and Gary Oldman have now chimed in with their thoughts on the tragic shooting spree which took place in Aurora, Colorado.

By now, you're bound to know about the shocking deaths of 12 people which were a result of gunman James Holmes (reportedly referring to himself as The Joker) opening fire in a packed out theatre during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado. Following the release of a statement by director Christopher Nolan yesterday evening (read that by clicking HERE) stars Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne/Batman) and Gary Oldman (Commissioner Jim Gordon) have now shared their own thoughts on the incident.

"Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them." [Christian Bale]

The statement from Oldman was actually released online yesterday, but missed due to the overwhelming amount of media coverage focusing on the events surrounding the shooting itself. All future cast and crew appearances have been cancelled by Warner Bros., so this may be all we hear from the actors on the matter.

"My prayers and deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families of this horrific act." [Gary Oldman]

As awful as this shooting was, don't let it stop you from enjoying The Dark Knight Rises this weekend. The film is absolutely incredible and you can read my 5* review by clicking HERE. Warner Bros.' reaction has been met with a mixed response, as some believe that the decision to cancel premieres and withhold box office figures is allowing the gunman to "win", while others view it as a mark of respect. Regardless, our thoughts go out to all of those affected by the tragedy, and we wish the injured (reported to be 38 in total) a speedy recovery.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

STARRING:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman
Michael Caine as Alfred
Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Tom Hardy as Bane
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate
Josh Pence as Ra's Al Ghul

RELEASE DATE: July 20th, 2012

YOU CAN'T REALLY SAY ALOT, THAT'S ALL YOU REALLY CAN SAY HONESTLY. IF YOU STARTED INVESTING IN TALKING ABOUT THE WHY AND WHAT IT WON'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT A HORRIBLE THING HAS HAPPENED. THE GUY IS A LOON.

I think that Warner Bros. is doing the right thing by cancelling cast appearances. It ensures that the focus is on the victims and their survivors.

That's sad. But I'm not going to give that lunatic the attention he wanted.

I'm watching the movie again in IMAX
with a ribbon pinned to my TDKR shirt

The sad irony is that Batman was born on the night of his parents murder, outside of a theater. he was watching "The Mark of Zorro", a film about another hero. And he lost his parents on a night that was supposed to be peaceful and full of hapinness.

A lot of "Bruce Wayne's" were created on July 20th..

Honestly, I wish Warner Brothers would pull the movie just long enough to put a title card in front that says something along the lines of

"In Honor and Memory of the Victims of the Aurora, CO shootings. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers go out to you and your families."

I hope that little shit fries.

I don't even think this psycho even cared that it was a Batman movie. I think he just thought there would be a lot of people to kill, it would be hard to escape, and no one would expect it. He's a monster.

This incident has made me very sad for society's current state.

The saddest part of this whole fiasco is how the media covered this shooting. Whenever something like this happens, only the most vague of details should be made nationally known. By turning this into an all-day media affair, addressing this guy by name and face, and even going so far as to confirm that he referred to himself as the joker (supposedly), they ensured that this nut-job received the attention he wanted. He feels justified, and has a sense of fulfillment. More importantly, the next nut-job feels encouraged because of this guy's success.

The guy (supposedly) said he was the Joker, so to say it wasn't related to Batman isn't entirely true. HOWEVER, if Batman didn't exist he'd have found something ELSE to channel his psychosis. It was peripherally related to Batman at best. I work at a theater and I can say in my area, people were coming out in decent numbers. It was a little slow last night, but IMAX shows were selling to capacity today. That made me glad. People shouldn't NOT see this movie because of this guy. He's caused enough damage as it is.

@mawilli4,
They are not going to pull the movie to add a simple memorial. However, if they did I would alter what you suggested it said to: "In Honor and Memory of the Victims of the Aurora, CO shootings. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers go out to you and your families. We hope that little shit fries!!!"

When the time is right it would be nice for Warner to lay on a special screening for the victims and familes, should they want to see the film. The cast should also attend. It won't change anything or even begin to help those poor people in the suffering but it would be a nice gesture on WB's part.

Just saw it. Maximus101, no offense...but I gotta disagree on that one. The Bane and Batman fights were AMAZING. Coolest stuff I've seen. I love the concept of Bruce climbing like a "bat out of hell". And Joseph Gordon Levitt was great as usual. Everything else...eh. Kinda sucked. The pacing was weird and rushed like a FOX X-Men movie. Then there would be a patient moment like Levitt talking to Bruce at the beginning. That was good. But out of place with the pace. Anne Hathaway was better than expected(which isn't much), but when she did that cartwheel on that prisoner's hands i laughed out loud. As much filler that I ultimately calculated in the film, there is NO excuse for that rushed pacing. And usually you know a movie sucks when it has to show previous scenes from its predecessors. The Jonathan Crane cameo was awful. I could go on and on. And I actually like Bane's voice, but when he lifted that one guy and squeezed his neck. Was that a tribute to Darth Vader or a ripoff?

Gun control won't stop mass murder, if every American didn't have the right to own a gun then the rate at which houses are robbed would go up. Theives are afraid that if they brake into a house they'll get shot. Also then America would be open to invasion becasue then we wouldn't be able to help out our boys fight off the invaders.

I am from Fort Collins Colorado a ½ hour away from the incident. This goes beyond politics of guns or no guns. All I can say is we Coloradoans will stay strong and I was out to dinner with my wife last night and the movie theater line next door was still packed. So that [frick]er WILL NOT succeed in putting fear in people’s eyes. Still, my heart goes out to all of the victims’ families.

Its very simple tho, to all you gun control idiots, guns don't get up and drive to a theater and kill folks, it's fkn retards who have issues that were never addressed somewhere growing up, he coulda just as easily walked in there with swords, knives, bats, etc and [frick]ed people up. Anything can be a weapon in the hand of an idiot

@Bark, yeah but a gun's sole purpose is to cause death. Fact. People keep downplaying guns like they don't harm anybody and it's only a person doing the killing lol. I bet your ass if this dude walked into a theater and started throwing knives they would have all swarmed his ass. You aren't gonna run at somebody shooting assault rifles or shotguns. Not to mention he had body armor on, all these people think they are so good with their handgun as if they are gonna shoot this dude in the head and not accidentally get more people killed in the process by either bringing attention to yourself and others, or accidentally hitting bystanders with your own gun. He had body armor on, he would have taken the shots and then sprayed everybody in your direction. People just don't think things through I swear to God lol. Not to mention in that theater, you'd be frozen in complete fear, the last thing on your mind is aiming at some guy's head with people screaming and falling dead around you. Pull your heads out of your asses guys. A concealed weapon at the viewing wouldn't have done a damn thing unless it was multiple people with handguns, and they all shot at him at the same time. So please knock off the nonsense.

And stop using the gun isn't dangerous excuse shit, it's beyond stupid lol. I can't kill somebody by pointing my finger at them. I'd need a gun to do so, hence why guns are so dangerous. I mean, it's common [frick]ing sense here. Basic logic. Gun + Person = death. No guns = no gun related deaths. If you don't want people breaking into your house buy a pissed off dog or get a security system, which are both just as expensive as a gun. Guns are meant for bad things, they don't shoot lollipops and unicorns lol. I'm tired of seeing the same weak argument by people who like guns or support guns.
Vital
Vital - 7/21/2012, 10:26 PM
And I'd like to see these same people go up to the victims' friends and family and explain to them how "awesome it is to have a gun". I'm sure they will understand and not kick your ass.
Vital
Vital - 7/21/2012, 10:30 PM
Limiting guns is better than having them anywhere, bought by anybody. If crazies can go down the street and buy a gun within 6 months, then game's over. Beyond stupid. They shouldn't be selling those kind of weapons to civilians anyway. You should need a special permit for those kind of things, based upon your job title, not cause "gun collecting" is your hobby. Will it stop criminals? No. Will it prevent a lot of gun related deaths? Yes. When you take away guns, and make it extremely difficult to acquire one, it discourages these people from robbing stores, shooting up schools and movie theaters. Less guns in the public is a good thing.
Unless we live in 2042 and the world is ran by Skynet, then it's okay lol.
