Aldis Hodge Explains Why Marvel Should Move Forward With The BLACK PANTHER Movie

Despite Guardians of the Galaxy taking The Black Panther's previously rumored spot on Marvel's slate, Leverage actor Aldis Hodge now elaborates on how diverse the film would be.

Considering Guardians of the Galaxy was announced yesterday as Marvel Studios' second film for 2014, a longer wait will be endured before the King of Wakanda graces the silver screen in Black Panther, as previously rumored. Despite that, actor Aldis Hodge elaborated with TV|Line on how culturally diverse the film would be.

"To me, it would be amazing for Marvel to put that out there," he says, "because think about how many superhero movies we have but how many of [the heroes], from a cultural standpoint, are black?" he continues. "How many African-American kids, or Latin kids, any kids of any other culture or ethnic group, can look at somebody up there and say, ‘Wow, I could be that.’ We don’t have that very often at all."

After TV|Line brought up Blade and Spawn, Hodge responded saying, “But those were years ago. In the comic book world there are a few African-American characters, they just need to explore them,” he asserts. “Marvel would be a champ for being the first one to pioneer that for this generation. I also think of all the kids in Africa, in South America, in Europe, who could say, “That can be me,” he reiterates.

In addition, Hodge admits that the movie ”would just be plain cool, man! I grew up in a Marvel universe, and Black Panther was my connection to make me feel like I could be a superhero. And The Avengers [movie] falls right into it because The Ultimate Avengers 2 [comic book series] is how Black Panther gets introduced, so it would flow naturally. It’d be a smart time to do it,” the actor concludes. For the full interview, where Aldis Hodge further expresses his interest in the role and what deems him fit for the role physically, go to TV|Line.

I hope we get him in before the next Avengers. Apparently Ant-Man will start filming next year so Ant-Man will probably be the 3rd Marvel Studios movie for 2014. Then I would assume 2015 to have Black Panther leading up to Avengers 2

Good BP choice, but continually telling anyone who will listen how awesome Marvel would be if they made a BP movie and happened to cast him is getting old. When I tried that, ( following Feige home, yelling at Stan Lee to put me in a movie as a hero) they just called the police... Bastards..

Aldis Hodge is an INSPIRED choice for Black Panther anyone that is familiar with Leverage would say the same. With a couple weeks in the the gym full time he would have the PERFECT build for Black Panther. Add to that a he turns 27 this year, a Martial Arts and Parkour backround, the guy is made for the part. Bring in Djimon Hounsou and some other big names and you could have something special...

Aldis Hodge = T'Challa

Djimon Hounsou = T'Chaka

But its pretty fugged up Marvel didnt put Blank Panther in Phase 2.

Prolly dont have the budget for it with so many movies on the factory steamline.

Black Panther would need some awesome location shooting. Marvel Studios is gonna shell that out. Too outside the box for them. Stick to the formula.

meh. I don't give a crap about the social significance of it.

But Black Panther is an awesome character who NEEDS to have a movie made about him. It's just plain obvious to me that this story has massive potential.

I can't figure out what is behind this bitch move on Marvel's part. I was really hoping to see the BP movie happen sooner so he can team up with The Avengers in one of the sequels.

I would rather see BP than GOTG any day!

I think Marvel has been very methodical in which movies they make. They're pretty shrewd. They all advance the story in their own way, while at the same time giving audiences recognizable names or introducing characters with a lot of potential. In the lead up to phase 2, they are going to want to return to franchises that have been successful in the past, but also set up The Avengers 2. So Iron Man, Cap, and Thor get sequels, while Guardians of the galaxy sets up Thanos. Ant man is in development, but it's kind of up in the air at the moment. The point is, marvel will make a Black Panther movie when they're ready. They do have some sort of plan here.

Lame.

We've got Phase two now which has GOTG and a new Thor title which explores a new planet.

It's obvious that Phase Two is going to introduce the Cosmic stories and Phase Three can introduce the magic so we'll get Black Panther and Dr.Strange.

As a half Puerto Rican/Cuban, I can relate.

The Fantastic Four took a a vacation to Puerto Rico! That was cool! I just hate when ethnicity and sexual orientation are thrown in our faces, comic book wise. It's annoying and distracting. Nothing should get in the way of good storytelling.

Oh, so and so is gay? Such and such is a minority? WHO CARES. Just move on with the plot already. No one seems to make a big deal that I love women, right?

It ain't a big deal unless you make it a big deal, yanno?
