Have to say I am a bit diasppointed.

The Comic-con footage and the Thor teaser trailer really set the mood for a serious dramatic epic. Any comedy was minimal. Now, starting with the second trailer, it seems that every reference emphasizes lots of comedy and now with this some cheesy comedy.

Same thing now with CA:TFA. The trailer had virtually no comedy in it and looked awesome as a serious and poignant story. Now you are hearing about a overwhelming comedic tone.

Basically Marvel studios is behaving just like a typical pathetic hollywood studio. When a film is very successful (in this case Iron Man) and the next film or films are being made the creators of those next films get told "Make it more like....". I would hazard a guess that KB had no intention of putting cheesy comedy in Thor but was forced to do so by the studio in order to 'make it more like Iron Man'. The problem is when the director is forced to do these things it always fails, e.g., taxi driver scene in TIH.

Notice the main positive thing that even the enthusiastic guy had to say was "CE and CH LOOK like their respective comicbook characters". And it virtually agreed upon that Super 8 was the better than both of them.

Sigh. Disappointing. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

@ Nephillim

I guess you're correct in your statement about the trailer strategy. I hope you are right that the comedy is used sparingly. I did not have any issue with the 'comedy' in the second THOR trailer but this report of cheesy comedy has me worried. Also recently some articles have emphasized comedy in THOR.
That taxi driver comedic scene in TIH was jarringly out of place, although it did not spoil the movie for me. It's just a scene I have to fast-forward through when watching that otherwise awesome movie.

Also the comedic tone reported for CA:TFA again has me worried.

Quite frankly I found the comedy in the GL trailer to be BAD, so I don't want these Marvel movies to be anything like that.

I want these movies to be truly awesome

No way of judging until we see for ourselves of course, but from what Pete S says I am also a bit worried. One of my pet peeves in movies is cheesy or over done attempts at humor. If it's actually funny(Iron Man) then great, but from the sounds of this it's more eye rolling. I [frick]ing hate that. It always feels tacked on by the studio to make the kids giggle or some shit.

But like I said, we will have to wait and see for ourselves. Super 8 sounds savage.

There used to be a time when you couldn't drink alcohol on video. It must be nice that times have changed. BTW, "Roketeer" was a great film.

How can anyone hate Thor.

I'm curious about this incidental mirth in Cap. Is it dumb? or just dated (as it should be)

This is such a great year for movies.

@Coldblood6

EVERY film is going to have comedy in it. (unless you're going for a dark brooding film.) That doesn't mean the film is going to all be slapstick. Most of the comedy in Thor is when Thor comes to Earth. And it's not silly one-liners either. It's all situational and it works REALLY well. I was laughing hard from just reading the script.

As for the Captain America bit... He compared it to the Rocketeer. The Rocketeer is a great film and I'm actually hoping that's the tone of Captain America.

Comedy is actually not easy. It requires skill to do and make it actually funny and not eye-rolling. So as a directors/writer if it is not your forte you should avoid it. This is why when studios force it on directors for whom comedy is not a strength or it is out of place in the subject matter then it comes across as really bad.

SO vamped up to see thor!!!! and being honest, what the big hype about super 8? Maybe its just me, but it doesn't get me excited at all. Thor and Cap and gonna rule tho.

Thor is to Iron Man as Captain America: The First Avenger is to The Dark Knight. Expectations were low for Iron Man because he was a lower-tier hero, and then it grossed like $560 mil and was a critical success. Everyone was expecting for TDK to be great and if it was only good, they'd be disappointed. Luckily Nolan delivered what every fan wanted. That's what I'm expecting with Captain America. If it's only good, a lot of people will be pissed off.

These guys did what I thought was impossible, they got me even more excited for Thor and Cap as well as Super 8.
The tone complaint wasn't too harsh so it's not bothering me any. It seemed more like a pet peeve which is cool and not a real knock on the film as far as I could tell.

Paramount is going to rule the summer

@ indoraptor12

Thanx for that. It is more reassuring.

I hope it works well on film. Still very stoked for this!!! It's just that the comic-con footage and the first trailer really gave me one impression of the film which is different from some of the more recent stuff. So my mind was set for that. I guess I have to be a bit more mentally flexable.

Comedy is necessary so these movies don't get bogged down. CBMs can't take themselves too seriously if they want to be fun. I'm not concerned about the comedy of Thor or Cap, because it doesn't really seem to be the focus of either, just part of what they're using to make them fun.

@ColdBlood you have to realise this and its pretty obvious in the video is the fact that humour is matter of opinion what you might find i might find cheesy, and obviously when you have culture clash of epic proportions your going to have some humour. I understand you worries but there's no need to get too worried.

I like the fact that there actually trying to make cap feel like a 40's movie, any ways I was pumped up for this movie before, i am even more pumped about it.

I'm not sure why people have such a problem with situational comedy. For example, J Michael Strazynsky (cowriting the film's story with Don Payne) put a staggering amount of comedy into his run with the Thor in the comics. But it was all situational, not slapstick. He winds up in Oklahoma! It made sense in context and the stories were deadly serious overall. Here we're seeing snotty, arrogant royal son Thor essentially thrown out on the street by Odin. He's never had any reason to deal with us lowly humans, so when he has his power and status taken from him , he's got nothing to relate to and reacts to the situation the way he always has as a prince.
