Cast Member Shares Thoughts on Captain America Movie Scene & Suit

One of the members of Chris Evans/Steve Rogers' fictional unit talks briefly about a recently shot scene he was a part of as well as the title character's 1940s suit...

Patrick Currier, an actor portraying a soldier in the fictitious US Army Camp Lehigh for Marvel Studios' Captain America movie, has been keeping fans updated on the progress of production. Recently, Currier sent out a series of messages concerning one of the latest scenes he was involved in. Via this Twitter page:

- Shooting a rally scene today & saw the 1940's cap costume. It's ermmmm... Suprising? I think it will change throughout the flick.

- Basically costume looked shit! Tights etc ala Adam West era Batman. However, found out for def that it improves loads!

- Apparently he starts out in a rubbish suit (on purpose) and then it gets upgraded to a badass one. Phew! I feared the worst!

- Can I add that Chris Evans seems like a super nice guy. He was joking with us and chatting in between takes. Kept up morale.

- ...All the more sad that we basically just had to bully him all day for the scene.

An important point that can be drawn from this brief summery is the confirmation of the Jack Kirby-esque era Captain America costume Chris Evans will be wearing for part of the film. There has been no final word as to how many suit changes Evans will transition through throughout the film.

Obviously they're initially going for that 1940's old school wrestler look that all those original superhero costumes were based on.

Can't wait to see the '1940's combat fatigues' look.

I just saw Fantastic Four this weekend and realized that I really like Chris Evans but I still hate the fact that he's Captain America now... It's like somehow some one believes there's a shortage of actors so they have to keep recasting the same guys over and over...

And while I'm at it... Edward Norton is the official Bruce Banner... we got short changed with that one too...

I like it! The question is, how does Cap react to these guys giving him a hard time. A true test of character, yes?

Excellent find Poni. ;)

The suit that we have seen on the internet is growing on me but I still wish there was some way of making his classic costume look good on screen.

One more thing.. at least paint some wings on his helmet. I think it improves the costume 100%.

I had my doubts before, but as we've gone on I'm believing more and more that this could be one of the greatest superhero films.
But then I just worry that Avengers won't be quite as good :/

Nice find on the confirmation. Wasn't it Joe Simon who designed the outfit, rather than Kirby?

tea: So there isn't any actual physical contact involved?

jazzman: Like I said, I like the costume but I hope you're right and they add the wings. I just think it completes the outfit.

im hope im right to if they add the wings if not i dont have a issue. i remember when the concept design of Thor came out people was outraged about Thor did not have his helmet and i told people his helmet is going to be in the movie. look what happen you see him wearing his helmet in the trailer.

lol @ Blake

Things I like about the costume:

Helmet, gloves, boots and mask. The basic configurations of those thigs are fine.

Things I don't like about the costume:

The colors, the straps, the shoulder stars, and I think they should have painted on wings.

I still think that this whole USO thing is pointless. I'd prefer to see what Ed Brubaker did in "The Marvels Project". Have Cap fighting Nazi spies in NY in the classic costume/shield and then sent over to fight in the war in his upgraded attire. The movie needs to show years passing so we see that he's a battle hardened soldier. Not spend half the movie with him as part of some show resulting in his first battle with the Red Skull also being his last. (when he gets frozen)
KeithM
KeithM - 8/16/2010, 8:38 AM
@Josh: The USO thing isn't pointless. Without it there is no way you'd ever see the original Kirby suit. It's the ONLY logical, period realistic and reasonable reason why he'd ever wear something like that. No 'soldier' would wear tights into battle. Think about it.

Also, without the USO section, Steve Rogers would never consider wearing the flag into battle at all. Something about that period when he's merely a propaganda tool must convince him that being a 'symbol' is valuable, but that the tights aren't practical so must design a similar, but more practical suit when he goes into battle (probably after wearing normal fatigues and finding his impact less than when he's in the suit). It shows a logical progression from propaganda symbol to soldier to the combination of both which he ultimately becomes.

Think it through. They clearly have. Which is a VERY good sign.
