Scott Porter Will Not be Captain America

Another of the actors from Captain America's short-list has announced he is out of the running.

Just last night we learned Michael Cassidy will not be wielding Captain America's iconic shield. Now, Scott Porter has announced via his Facebook page that he is no longer up for the role of Cap: "Ain't Cap. Thank you all for the prayers though, I appreciate them all so very much." Porter was a heavily favored candidate out of the original five actors named. With the Friday Night Lights star now out of contention, the infamous short-list is down to John Krasinski, Mike Vogel and Chace Crawford; with a still unconfirmed test screening for Garrett Hedlund.

This announcement from Porter does add major validity to the list leaked last week by Deadline.com; but more importantly it suggests that the role of Captain America has already been cast. Hopefully, an official announcement from Marvel Studios is imminent.

FRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are getting to the proverbial "bottom of the barrel" here guys. The shorter this list get, the worst off we are. It is a sad FRAKING day in America, when Mike Vogel is our best shot at Steve Rogers in a live action movie.

@OptimusPrime114 - Really ...? John Krasinski? Let's ignore that stupid goofy look he seems to wear like a mask, do you really think Krasinski can bulk up enough for the role in two months? The guy would need to put on like 30 lbs of muscle and that is simply not possible. IJS.

Vogel or Hedlund (however the [frick] u spell it) now.

@Bleed

That's good at least. Size wise, is he anywhere near where he would need to be for this role?

There has to be a complete unknown they are hanging onto. They said an unknown and I am hoping it is a true unknown. No Vogel in elevator shoes and call me a hater, but no Shrek/Mr. Dork for Cap. I'll take Hedlund over those two any day, but still want to be surprised by someone we haven't heard about yet who has the look and talent to pull it off. Hell, the somewhat knowns they are throwing at us either don't have the look or don't have the talent. I would rather take my chances with someone who is a true unknown who has the look and the talent. There are plenty of talented actors out there.

This is getting interesting! I'm liking Vogel more and more. Hedlund wouldn't be terrible, but eh.

It will be Hedlund.
WingPow

@Talontd and Bleed

Vogel is short. He says he's 5'10", but if you look at pictures (from the movie) of him next to Jessica Biel (who's 5'8"), he's barely, even if at all, taller than her.

Seeing that Cap' is 6'2", I think that 5'10" is much too short.

I vote Hedlund all the way. Watch and see....

well there all good actors. i like John alot though i don't think this is for him. but either way i'm going on Marvels judgement here. i trust that they know what there doing, and whoever they pick will do fine.

Hedlund is Disney/Marvel's choice... Krasinski is Johnston's choice

Vogel is too short for Cap... although I won't be surprised if he's cast as Bucky.
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 3/5/2010, 1:47 PM
Ah hell. This is getting worse by the minute!

Out of the actors on the short bus, I mean list, Porter was the best choice.

What happened to Jensen Ackles reading for the role.

I really can't see "Office Guy" as Cap. maybe they will do liek they did when Hiddleston was rumored for Thor but ended up as Loki and make "Office Guy" Bucky

I can only hope and prey...

HAWK out

harvey5388 - 3/5/2010, 1:47 PM
@Spyder3355 Exactly. I think more times than not, the studio knows something that we don't. If they pick Krasinski, it's for a reason. The only thing we can do is wait to see what that reason is, and most likely be pleasantly surprised.
WingPow
WingPow - 3/5/2010, 1:47 PM
I agree with Avenger53

I believe there was a lot of substance to the rumor that Krasinski is all but certain to be Captain America. I think though that Disney/Marvel saw it otherwise.

Swanky - 3/5/2010, 1:52 PM
If they Sign Kransinski to be Cap, they should sign Dwight to play Red Skull lol j/k
Avenger53
Avenger53 - 3/5/2010, 1:52 PM
I am beginning to wonder if the REAL reason Johnston threatened to walk was due to Disney/Marvel's balking at Krasinski in the role... and not a reduction in his salary as reported... hence the delay of Johnston's proposed "announcement day" on Monday, March 1 and the news of Cap's supposed production delay which was just last Thursday/Friday 2/25 & 2/26 respectfully... HMMMM?

@THEHAWK

Supposedly everyone liked him, but the CW wouldn't let him due to the scheduling conflict with Supernatural.

Just read up on HEDLUND, didn't know he was the younger brother in Four Brothers....I could see that working, but he's just so f*ckin skinny.

This sucks, Johnston can go f*ck himself...
