Kelly Thompson’s historic Captain Marvel run ended earlier this week, but Carol Danvers is set to return this October for an all-new Marvel Comics series from Alyssa Wong and artist Jan Bazaldua.

Captain Marvel #1 will see Carol Danvers debut a new look inspired by Jen Bartel's recent Hellfire Gala design (you can a better look at the redesigned costume below).

The official synopsis tells us that the series "will see the rise of a new overwhelming omniversal entity who recognizes Carol is the only hero who can stand against its vision of total annihilation. After being ambushed and trapped, Carol will need to rely on the reluctant help of a young ally who holds the key to victory! Ripe with high-stakes adventure, cosmic mystery, and epic feats, it’s an exciting new status quo worthy of Marvel’s brightest stars!

Highest, Furthest, Fastest! Carol Danvers is one of the powerhouses of the Marvel Universe, a woman capable of harnessing the energy of the sun. So if you’re coming for Earth? She’s the first one you take off the board... and someone’s figured just how to do just that. Introducing a new supporting cast and villains both beloved and dangerously fresh as Wong and Bazaldua’s exhilarating new series kicks off!"

CAPTAIN MARVEL (2023) #1 cover by Stephen Segovia

"I'm so excited to be writing Captain Marvel!” Wong said (via Marvel.com). “Carol is such an iconic character with a rich history, and I can't wait to add to her story. It's an honor to work with Jan and I hope everyone enjoys what we've got coming!"

"Captain Marvel is one of my favorite female characters, that's why I'm very excited to draw her,” Bazaldua added. “I have always seen her as a very self-confident woman with nothing she cannot face, and not just because she has super-powers, but because she has inner strength. That’s what I really enjoy about her and why I really appreciate this opportunity!"

You rang?

@AmySabadini - Wow. That butt is as flat as a pancake. Mmmmmmmmm.... pancakes! 😊
PatientXero - 6/17/2023, 1:16 AM
Could you make care less about this character?
dracula - 6/17/2023, 1:24 AM
The front of the jacket ruins it
Waifuslayer - 6/17/2023, 1:37 AM
It's too late. The character is ruined. We either need a straight up return of the original Carol Danvers or just let her die with dignity.

I mean, how many new series does this make for her now? Will this one be canceled within 10 or so issues too?

It's over. Just create a new character who hasn't been awful for the last decade.
BuzzKillington - 6/17/2023, 5:47 AM
@Waifuslayer -

They aren't cancelled. Every new run gets a new #1 and her last series went on for 4 years and 50 issues. Please try and pretend to know what you're talking about.
SuperiorHeckler - 6/17/2023, 7:42 AM
@BuzzKillington - Oh. Is that how they do it now? When any new series fails, they just keep re-setting back to a #1 again and proclaim the prior poor selling title as "having completed its storyline".... 🫤
BuzzKillington - 6/17/2023, 7:56 AM
@SuperiorHeckler -

That's pretty much all series. Even good selling critically acclaimed series. Sorry to burst your bubble. Any new writer starting a new run that series for whatever hero usually starts at #1.
SuperiorHeckler - 6/17/2023, 8:06 AM
@BuzzKillington - Happy to report that my bubble proudly still floats un-popped! 🤓 I really don't follow comics much anymore but, I am aware of the MULTIPLE Captain Marvel titles that just keep re-cycling over and over and over again. Hey, I'm a die-hard NOVA fan and he has had a handful of his own runs that have flamed-out. But, he is (IMO) a great supporting character that just can't carry his own series. Capt. Marvel is probably the same but, unlike with NOVA, Captain Marvel has the benefit and advantage of being part of MARVEL's commitment to "socially conscious" characters.
BuzzKillington - 6/17/2023, 8:29 AM
@SuperiorHeckler -

Not "re-cycling". New writer means new #1 like most other characters. Last CM run was 4 years and 50 issues. And 50 issues is kinda rare for Marvel these days. It's usually about 30 issues before a new writer comes on and we go back to #1 again.
ShimmyShimmyYA - 6/17/2023, 10:04 AM
@BuzzKillington - wasting your time, they’ll just move the goalpost again
OmegaBlack13 - 6/17/2023, 10:50 AM
@SuperiorHeckler - Immortal Hulk, one of Marvel’s best selling and most critically acclaimed issues also ended and was replaced by a new #1 after 50 issues and a few years. Yeah, comics generally aren’t selling super well and often get relaunch after middling sales, which is annoying. But even when a comic is successful by every single metric we get a new #1 so what’s your point exactly?
OmegaBlack13 - 6/17/2023, 10:52 AM
@BuzzKillington - Also Carol had multiple series as Ms Marvel going back to the 70s, and they sold better than Mar-Vell’s books so what are you even saying about this diversity push shit lmao
Waifuslayer - 6/17/2023, 12:02 PM
@BuzzKillington - oh we're pretending her last few series were successful now?

How's the weather in Bizarro World today?
Waifuslayer - 6/17/2023, 12:04 PM
@BuzzKillington - you know why it's rare for a marvel series to go past 30-50 issues? Because they get cancelled you jackass. A new writer doesn't mean they reset and relaunch a flagship title. Have you ever actually read a comic book?
BuzzKillington - 6/17/2023, 1:07 PM
@OmegaBlack13 -

I said nothing about a diversity push. You are reading something into my comments that are not even there.
BuzzKillington - 6/17/2023, 1:08 PM
@Waifuslayer -

4 year run and 50 issues is successful. You just wanna hate on it cause you got nothing else going on.
BuzzKillington - 6/17/2023, 1:08 PM
@ShimmyShimmyYA -

So true
BuzzKillington - 6/17/2023, 1:10 PM
@Waifuslayer -

No they don't cancel them. The run is finished and they start with #1 with a new writer

"A new writer doesn't mean they reset and relaunch a flagship title."

Actually yes they do. The been doing that for a while. Why don't you try actually reading the books JACKASS. See ya sweetheart
Waifuslayer - 6/17/2023, 3:49 PM
@SuperiorHeckler - lol Im gonna hijack this comment to to say buzz replied to me like 10 times and then blocked me so I can't even read them 🤣
Radders - 6/19/2023, 8:38 AM
@BuzzKillington - Which comes first the new writer or the cancellation to bring in a new writer?
BuzzKillington - 6/19/2023, 9:31 AM
@Radders -

What comes first is the run ends and a new run begins with a new writer. There you go.
Radders - 6/19/2023, 10:59 AM
@BuzzKillington - Its odd that never used to happen, until recent years where runs now only last about 12 issues. Was the same writer on this run for all 50 issues?
BuzzKillington - 6/19/2023, 11:27 AM
@Radders -

Yes she was.
Radders - 6/21/2023, 5:21 AM
@BuzzKillington - cool, she clearly got better sales than the previous 4 volumes of Carol as Cap Marvel
incredibleTalk - 6/17/2023, 1:38 AM
...in other news just saw "Extraction 2"...this should have been in the movies it's so good and...

NinnesMBC - 6/17/2023, 2:01 AM
It's gonna take a while before the new looks grows on the readers, but I like her new braid.

Off-topic, several stuff:

Andy Muschietti has revealed that other cameos that were cut were from Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, Marlon Brando as Jor-El and Cesar Romero's Joker. (More fans have reacted in outrage that 2 people that passed away years ago were considered again over John Wesley Shipp and Grant Gustin)

OmegaBlack13 - 6/17/2023, 10:57 AM
@Matchesz - I mean yeah. She was the first feminist superhero in the 70s. It was part of her thing. It’s why she was “Ms” Marvel instead of “Miss”.
