Variety recently had the opportunity to catch up with Brie Larson and while the Oscar-winning actress was understandably reluctant to reveal anything too specific about her role in Captain Marvel, she did explain why playing the character has resulted in her finding her inner and outer strength as a person.
"I will say that I learned that I’m much stronger than I realize in playing her," she explained before addressing what a surreal experience it's been to suit up as the fan-favourite Marvel superhero.
"A lot of my life recently has felt like it’s happening to somebody else. I think part of it is a defense mechanism. It feels better to kind of continue to have my own understanding of myself, rather than one that was put on me by the outside world." As for the work that's gone into playing the character, Larson added: "My highest right now is 215 lbs. in deadlifts. 400 lb. hip thrusts. Being able to lift weight like that really changed my perspective and understanding of myself." Impressive, eh?
"Going through a movie that requires so much and takes this long, I’m realizing I’m way stronger than I knew," she concluded, hinting that Captain Marvel could be as groundbreaking as Black Panther.
