James Gunn Weighs In On The Skrulls Joining The MCU And Why Matthew McConaughey Can't Play Adam Warlock

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn weighs in on the addition of the Skrulls to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reveals why Matthew McConaughey isn't the right choice for Adam Warlock.

Captain Marvel will feature both a 90s setting and the Kree/Skrull War and now James Gunn has shared his thoughts on the fact that the shape shifting aliens are finally coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The filmmaker revealed last year that Marvel has access to the aliens and he's excited to see them become a part of this world despite it not being in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

"I'm unbelievably stoked on that. The Skrulls are some of my favorite characters. I had others times that I wanted to use them that didn't work out for one reason or another and I can't wait to see their implementation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe." It definitely sounds like the director was stopped from using them because the plan has more than likely always been to put them in Captain Marvel

Gunn also reveals in the video below that he's looking for a younger actor to play Adam Warlock and that Matthew McConaughey - who has been rumoured for the role in the past - wouldn't be a good fit because, well, he's too old! It makes sense when you hear him explain why that it but the actor could do with a juicy MCU role after critics have taken aim at his performance in The Dark Tower...

@SkrullCipher - yeah playing a southern bigot rodeo star who learned the error of his ways mustve been a pretty big reach. Im sure the dialogue was a lot for him to get used to. also what heights he reached as Mud, 'transformative'.
