Very little has been revealed about The Marvels thus far, though we do know Captain Marvel, Spectrum (Monica Rambeau), and Ms. Marvel are all set to team up. What threat will they face? Well, it's looking a lot like the Kree Empire is still causing problems for Carol Danvers, because Murphy's Multiverse is reporting that Zawe Ashton will play an obscure Kree villain from the comic books.
We're guessing most of you haven't heard of Ael-Dan, but the actress is apparently playing a gender-swapped version of that character (who has only made three appearances on the page).
As the site explains, it was during his brief comic book history that we saw the villain assassinate the Kree Emperor in order to take his place. Ultimately, Deathbird killed him, but we're anticipating this Ael-Dan playing a much larger role in the story. For starters, the site has heard that this iteration is either a "Kree Emperor" or "Kree General," and seeing as he was both in the comics at different points, the same could be the case in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It's hard to predict what leads to Captain Marvel once again clashing with the Kree, but something tells us she's probably spent decades battling their intergalactic rule after breaking free from their control. The Skrulls could also come into play, especially as Secret Invasion is also on the way to Disney+.
We're still hoping for an adaptation of the Kree/Skrull War down the line, but whether that's going to factor into The Marvels is hard to say (it could be the basis of a future Avengers movie).
The Marvels is set to be released in theaters on February 17, 2023.
