Early estimates suggested that Captain Marvel was going to fly higher, further, faster at the box office, and the first big-screen outing for Marvel's space-faring hero is definitely off to a great start.

Deadline reckons Marvel Studios' latest took in between $20M and $24M last night from preview screenings, which is even more impressive than you might think when put into perspective.

CAPTAIN MARVEL Spoilers: A Detailed Rundown Of All The Major Moments And Reveals

If it does end up closer to the $24M mark, Captain Marvel will rank as the second best preview night for March behind only Batman v. Superman‘s 2016 take of $27.7M. It'll also come in just under Black Panther's $25.2M and the $25 million Captain America: Civil War amassed back in 2016.

It remains to be seen if the movie continues to perform like this over the weekend, of course, but after becoming Fandango's top advance ticket seller since Avengers: Infinity War and with am 82% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes from 248 reviews, we certainly wouldn't bet against it!

If this is what a safe, restricted and constrained Captain Marvel film is like, bring on the sequel already!

@WakandanQueen - hopefully she is less stoic in the sequel

@dracula - Larson? She was perfect imo. Amazing casting.

@dracula - I can go with her being more loose. Her scenes with fury were my favorite

Saw Captain Marvel and it was good not great. 4 Stars out of 5 Stars. I liked both Ant-Man movies better.

I walked out not feeling like I had to see a second time. I do think Marvel took a small step backwards with Captain Marvel. I would compare it to the first Thor movie.

@DoubleD - I'd put it above Thor, Captain America and Ant-Man in terms of origin stories. Not sure yet which one I prefer between this and Doctor Strange. Iron Man is still the king (Black Panther & Spidey didn't have origin films so they don't count).

@DoubleD - I liked it more than strange and both ant man's. I liked it more than thor Ragnarok waas well, which I feel is overrated. It doesn't touch any iron man films or captain America's though

Liked it better than homecoming

Guess I'd rank it top 30 percentile for marvel movies

@WakandanQueen - Captain Marvel felt like a Phase 1 movie. Low on action. Thor was sent to Earth without his hammer most of the movie. At the very end Thor becomes worthy gets his hammer to defeat the Destroyer.

The real Captain Marvel was barely in this movie.

@WakandanQueen - I’d put it below Black Panther, on par with Iron Man and First Avenger, and above the rest the origins.

@DoubleD - For a 'good', not 'great' movie that is a pretty high score! Like if I give a movie an 8/10, that's a great movie, but I agree with you that Captain Marvel was just good, that's why I would give it like a 7/10 or 3.5 Stars out of 5. Its MCU movie 21, its nowhere in the top ten, but not at the bottom either, somewhere in the middle it belongs.
