Earlier this week, we were fortunate enough to sit down for a conversation with composer Pinar Toprak about her incredible work on the new Disney short film Us Again. After premiering in theaters alongside Raya and the Last Dragon earlier this year, it's now streaming on Disney+, and is a very special piece of filmmaking we can't recommend highly enough.
Joined by producer Brad Simonsen (Ralph Breaks the Internet), Pinar was kind enough to answer our questions about the short, though we had to take the opportunity to ask about The Marvels.
The composer was responsible for creating Captain Marvel's score, and while director Nia DaCosta will replace Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck in the director's chair, we asked whether the Marvel Studios sequel is a film she hopes to return for. Pinar's answer? "No comment." When we suggested it might be a "wait and see" type of situation, she simply smiled and shrugged, which we hope means the door is open for her to return.
Toprak was the first female composer to work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and her credits include the likes of Krypton and Stargirl. It would be awesome to see her provide the score for The Marvels - a movie that will bring together Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau - but it seems we will just have to wait until an official announcement is made by Marvel Studios.
Check out the interview below, and keep checking back here for more on Us Again!
